Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share

Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or HP
value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe it's
the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source community.

About: The Adobe Source Libraries (ASL) are a collection of C++ libraries
building foundation technology to allow the construction of commercial
applications by assembling generic algorithms through declarative
descriptions.

Changes: Some private implementation code has been refined into the XML
Parser library (and supporting constructs). Several new widgets have been
added for Mac OS and Win32, including a reveal widget, a preset widget,
and tooltip support for both platforms. Many GIL updates and fixes were
done. A new Wiki is available, and accounts may be requested for editing
rights. Many other bugfixes and updates were done.

System :: Systems Administration

About: AFD is a program to automatically distribute files either locally
or to remote hosts. The files are distributed by using FTP or SMTP, and
can be sent in parallel and with priority. It provides a GUI to monitor
and control the distribution and extensive logging of all activities.

Changes: This release implements fetching files via SFTP. sendfile()
support has been added for Linux only. A new email option 'file name is
target' has been added. From the dialog dir_ctrl, it is now possible to
view DIR_CONFIG entries for each directory monitored by AFD. The error
where setting ASCII mode for FTP had no effect has been fixed.

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: AltioLive Studio provides a development environment to rapidly
build front ends to complex Web based applications, with rich client
interactivity beyond the capabilities of the best AJAX front ends.
Included are a Visual GUI builder, a backend integration tool, and other
development tools, which allow developers to build the interface for their
applications quickly, remotely, and without touching an XML or Java editor,
so that they can get on with developing the business logic on the backend.

Changes: Enhancements to the List control include copy and paste of
selected cells, different styles for lines in the header, and vertical
splitting of cells. The JFreeChart sample custom control has been updated
to 1.0.1 and expanded to cover more JFreeChart functionality. Print
preview allows zooming and selecting which pages to print. JDBC services
support pagination (Cursors), and performance has improved for queries
that return large data sets with hundreds of columns. Memory usage and
performance enhancements have also been made to the XML parser, both
client and server side.

[011] - CRM114 Discriminator 20060704
  by Crah the Merciless (http://freshmeat.net/users/wsymerlcom/)
  Fri, Jul 7th 2006 10:58

Communications :: Email
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: CRM114 is a Controllable Regex Mutilator and Smart Filter, designed
for easy creation of filters for things like incoming email redirection,
spam filtering, system logs, or monitoring processes. Filtering rules can
be either hard-coded (such as regexes), soft-coded (calculated at runtime
or read from an external file or process), or learned dynamically by
phrase matching (as in Bayesian filtering, Markovian matching, Winnowing,
or Hyperspatial classification). This makes it possible to create very
accurate filters with very little actual work. Accuracies over 99.9% are
achievable.

Changes: This version makes OSB classification, mailreaver, and
reavercacheing the default configuration, along with an improved learning
system (mailtrainer.crm) for faster convergence and higher accuracy. There
have been a few edge-condition bugs squashed, and the documentation has
been updated as well. This is the recommended version for all new and
upgrade installs.

[024] - JGraph 5.9
  by bensond (http://freshmeat.net/users/BessyBoo/)
  Fri, Jul 7th 2006 06:20

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering

About: JGraph is a free, mature, and robust Java Graphing framework that
fully complies with Swing design principles. It contains all the graph
visualization and interaction functionality you might expect in a graph
library, including multiple views, layering, zoom, drag and drop, undo,
automatic expanding and collapsing, routing, and layouts. You can create
stunning workflow editors, call graphs, CAD tools, network diagrams,
database visualization tools, and more. It can also be deployed on the
server-side with a large range of image exporting functionality. It is
fully documented and commercially supported.

Changes: Double buffering in JGraph previously consisted of off-screen
buffers created in the root handles and size handles to buffer
drag-and-resize previews on a per-case basis. However, the review buffered
the entire graph image, so recreating the buffer on each operation was
expensive in CPU terms. The off-screen buffer and off-screen graphics that
are the graphics object of the buffer have been moved to the JGraph class.
Also, the cachedLabelBounds and cachedExtraLabelBounds variables in
EdgeView were never set (since getLabelBounds() and getExtraLabelBounds()
were never called) and have been removed.

  Fri, Jul 7th 2006 13:18

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development

About: JGraph Layout Pro is a high performance graph layout library for
JGraph that automatically positions your graph, diagram, or network in a
visually pleasing manner. Layout Pro provides flexibility and a simple
design, enabling you to use circular, tree, force-directed, and
hierarchical layouts with ease. Example uses are organisational charts,
workflow and process diagrams, call charts, network diagrams, UML tools,
and more. It comes with its own documentation and an example applet.

Changes: The facade has been changed to be able to cope with arbitary
levels of nested groups and still layout correctly. The positioning of
labels of parallel edges is improved. circleRadiusFactor was added to
JGraphFacade to enable control over the spacing in the circle layout.

API rather than a bunch of different libraries for different purposes or
platforms. Its features include fully lightweight components with
transparency and effects, classes for strings, containers, XML, streams,
file handling, messaging, and event queues, vector graphics, a custom font
engine, image manipulation, OpenGL support, low-latency audio I/O using
CoreAudio, DSound and ASIO, audio buffers and nodes, MIDI file and event
manipulation, Internet streams, undo/redo support, and more.

Changes: This release adds rewritten Mac windowing (now using HIViews),
ActiveX embedding on Windows, new Quicktime handling on Windows, Linux
MIDI input, better universal binaries on the Mac, changes to the Mac VST
and AU wrappers to support Intel-based hosts, and many other minor

[056] - Remote Capture for Canon PowerShot cameras 1.0.3-cvs
  by petulda (http://freshmeat.net/users/petulda/)
  Fri, Jul 7th 2006 06:07

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera

About: Remote Capture for Canon PowerShot cameras is a tool for
controlling Canon PowerShot cameras. It has been tested with the following
Canon PowerShot cameras: S50, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A510, A520, G6,
S400, S410, and S500. The main advantage of Capture over gPhoto is that the
consecutive shots are taken without the camera lenses being closed and
opened again. When taking several thousand shots in a row, this indeed
lets the camera live longer.

Changes: This release adds some minor enhancements and fixes. The code is
stable.

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: A little improvement of the castle example program was done. The
drwText function of the windows graphic driver was changed to support
Unicode characters. A new example program (planets) was added.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The Storage Resource Broker is client-server middleware that
provides a uniform interface for connecting to heterogeneous data
resources over a network and accessing replicated data sets. It, in
conjunction with the Metadata Catalog (MCAT), provides a way to access
data sets and resources based on their attributes and/or logical names
rather than their names or physical locations.

Changes: Three vulnerabilities that allow SRB users to read/write
non-Vault files that are readable/writable by the the srbadmin user were
fixed. A bug that causes the GridFTP driver to use the wrong credential to
connect to GridFtp server was fixed. A file descriptor lock bug was fixed.
Uploading files larger than 2 gigabytes into GridFtp resources now works.
Timeout bugs that could arise when sending large numbers of files were
fixed. A core dump problem for HPSS type resources involving parallel I/O
on Linux servers was fixed. A new option -o was added to show collection
ownership in SgetColl.

[067] - Sunifdef 2.1.1 (Stable)
  by Mike Kinghan (http://freshmeat.net/users/imkinghan/)
  Fri, Jul 7th 2006 16:27

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Sunifdef is a command line tool for simplifying the preprocessor
conditionals in C/C++ source code (#if and related directives) based on
the the user's stipulation of the preprocessor macros that shall be
defined or undefined. It is a more powerful successor to the FreeBSD
'unifdef' tool. Sunifdef is most useful to developers of constantly
evolving products with large code bases, where preprocessor conditionals
are used to configure the feature sets, APIs or implementations of
different releases. In these environments, the code base steadily
accumulates #ifdef-pollution as transient configuration options become
obselete. Sunifdef can largely automate the recurrent task of purging
redundant #if-logic from the code.

Changes: The #if parser has been greatly simplified and is much more
powerful. The --podsym option, formerly --ignore or -iD, has been removed.
The --symbols option has been enhanced. The --blank option has been
replaced with a richer --discard option. The new --line option causes
sunifdef to emit #line directives that will make evaluations of the CPP
__LINE__ macro invariant before and after sunifdef, even if lines have
been dropped. All usage errors now emit a specific diagnostic. The man
page is considerably more complete and correct. Four minor bugs are fixed.
