Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: Cypher generates the .rdf (RDF graph) and .serql (SeRQL query)
representation of a plain language input. With robust definition
languages, its grammar and lexicon can quickly and easily be extended to
process highly complex sentences and phrases of any natural language, and

[012] - Dazuko 2.2.2
by John Ogness (http://freshmeat.net/users/jogness/)
Sun, Aug 6th 2006 16:10
Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels
About: Dazuko provides a device driver allowing 3rd-party (userland)
applications to execute file access control. It was originally developed
by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH to allow on-access virus scanning. Other uses
include a file-access monitor/logger or external security implementations.
It operates by intercepting file access calls and passing the file
information to a 3rd-party application. The 3rd-party application then has
the opportunity to tell the device driver to allow or deny the file access.
The 3rd-party application also receives information about the access event,
such as accessed file, type of access, process id, and user id.
Changes: An internal API change causing compile problems under FreeBSD has
been fixed. Several changes were made to support the latest Linux 2.6
internal APIs.

[015] - ExactImage 0.0.16
by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
Sun, Aug 6th 2006 06:27
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick
requires, and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time
the "display" program takes.
Changes: Edisplay now has an OSD overlay displaying cursor position, RGB
components, and the zoom factor as well as an experimental OpenGL
rendering via Evas. Some generic image iterator details were fixed and
rotation to arbitrary angles as well as automatic document skew detection
were implemented. The ddt-scaler and a double free of TIFF color maps were
fixed.

Software Development :: Interpreters
About: MDK (MIX Development Kit) provides tools for developing and
executing, in a MIX virtual machine, MIXAL programs. The MIX is Donald
Knuth's mythical computer, described in the first volume of The Art of
Computer Programming, which is programmed using MIXAL, the MIX assembly
language. MDK includes a MIXAL assembler (mixasm), a MIX virtual machine
(mixvm) with a command line interface, a Guile-based virtual machine
(mixguile), a GTK+ based GUI (gmixvm), and a mixvm-Emacs interface
(mixvm.el). MDK utilities are extensible using Scheme.
Changes: MIXAL compliance fixes were made. NOP now accepts an F-spec.
Invalid F-spec values are reported as warnings instead of errors, since
they can be legitimately (if hackishly) used. gmixvm now has a history
popup in the terminal input dialog. The load file dialog now remembers the
last directory. I1 and I2 in mixvm were swapped to their correct position.
smem in mixvm now correctly handles negative zero. Bugfixes were made.

by Brad Cable (http://freshmeat.net/users/Aeiri/)
Sun, Aug 6th 2006 23:28
Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Security
About: SQLIer is a script that uses brute force to crack passwords through
"true/false" SQL injection vulnerabilities. With "true/false" SQL injection
vulnerabilities, you cannot actually query data out of the database, only
ask a statement that is returned "true" or "false". SQLIer takes each
character's ASCII code and asks a "higher/lower" question to the database,
eventually reaching the actual character code. This script also does not
use quotes in the exploit to operate, meaning it will work for a wider
range of sites. An 8 character password (containing any character from
decimal ASCII code 1-127) takes approximately 1 minute to crack.
Changes: The program now attempts to determine table, username field, and
password field names. Automatic building of SQL injection statements was
implemented. Multiple usernames are now accepted. The status is now saved
so that the script doesn't have to perform the same operations over and
over again. A new option based interface (rather than argument based) was
implemented.

[059] - SRESI 0.13.0

Sun, Aug 6th 2006 09:10
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager, with many interesting tricks
sadly bundled in a lousy interface. SRESI works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.
Changes: The core data structures were extensively rewritten: the new
design trades some data size efficiency for a much cleaner design,
avoiding redundancies and dramatically improving performance. The core
APIs and code (Bookmarks module) were cleaned up. The binary format
changed, but the standard exchange format, DSV, did not.

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: xBaK is a fan-made remake of the classic Sierra computer RPG

tools for examining the contents of the data files are also available.

[073] - zsync 0.5
by Colin Phipps (http://freshmeat.net/users/cph/)
Sun, Aug 6th 2006 06:27
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: zsync is a implementation of rsync over HTTP. It allows updating of
files from a remote Web server without requiring a full download or a
special remote server application. It uses a metafile, which is created on
the server, to determine which parts of a file the user already has; it
then downloads the remaining parts via HTTP. No special server or Web
server module is needed. It also works with gzip files, and content on the
server can be compressed to further reduce download times.
Changes: This release uses large file support wherever possible.
Compilation problems on some older/unusual systems were fixed.
