[001] - 4tH compiler 3.5a-pre3 (Development)
by HanSoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/hansoft/)
Mon, Aug 7th 2006 05:40
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: 4tH is a Forth compiler with a little difference. Instead of the
standard Forth engine it features a conventional compiler. 4tH is a very
small compiler that can create bytecode, C-embeddable bytecode, standalone
executables, but also works fine as a scripting language. It supports over
85% of the ANS Forth CORE wordset and features conditional compilation,
pipes, files, assertions, forward declarations, recursion, include files,
etc. It comes with an RPN calculator, line editor, compiler, decompiler,
C-source generators, and a virtual machine.
Changes: The classic games 'Hamurabi' and 'Lander' and a Forth SLOC
program were added to the examples. Most of the ANS-Forth FILE wordset is
now supported. The ANS-Forth interface was updated. The 'Porting guide'
was added to the manual.

Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
About: Adanaxis is a first-person shooter game in four spatial dimensions,
with a space theme. It provides control of all ten degrees of freedom
available in 4D. The solid 4D renderer uses 2D textures for each facet of
the 4D objects, using texture maps generated from palette look-up
controlled by a 4D noise function. A Ruby-based level scripting system is
included. A 3D graphics card is required.

[003] - Aften 0.04
by Kurtnoise (http://freshmeat.net/users/kurtnoise/)
Mon, Aug 7th 2006 07:59
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
About: Aften is a simple A/52 (AC-3) audio encoder based on the FFMpeg
libraries. The name is an acronym for A/Fifty-Two ENcoder. It is also
Danish and Norwegian word for 'evening'. It is able to create stereo and
multi-channel AC3-compatible audio streams.
Changes: Small adjustments were made to the exponent strategy decision. A
WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE fix was applied. An alternate bit stream syntax
with new command line options was implemented along with a better encoding
structure, a filter library, a LFE low-pass filter, a DC high-pass filter,
a bandwidth low-pass filter, and a channel bandwidth low-pass filter. The
sample type was changed from float to double. CRC code was moved to a
separate file. Variable bandwidth selection was improved. The default mode
was changed to CBR. The maximum bitrate can now be specified in VBR mode.

[004] - Axiomatic Multi-Platform C 1.4.5
by napi (http://freshmeat.net/users/napi/)
Mon, Aug 7th 2006 05:22
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Axiomatic Multi-Platform C (AMPC) is a C compiler suite with an IDE
that generates Java bytecode (Java class files) to produce platform
independent applications. This is for Write Once Run Anywhere (WORA) with
C. AMPC supports a very large subset of ANSI C (1989). It can be used to
develop new applications using C as well as port existing applications
written in C to run on JVM enabled devices. A JNI (JVM Native Interface)
feature is available for calling native C or C++ functions. Also, numerous
Java methods can be called from AMPC. The asm() directive can be used to
embed Jasmin assembly code within C source code.
Changes: The TCP/IP library has been improved.

[010] - clipsmm 0.0.6
by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
Mon, Aug 7th 2006 07:30
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Software Development :: Libraries
About: clipsmm is a C++ library that provides an interface to the CLIPS
library. CLIPS provides a C environment for the construction of rule-
and/or object-based expert systems used by NASA, branches of the military,
numerous federal bureaus, government contractors, universities, and many
companies. Several areas in which clipsmm extends the CLIPS interface are
templated function callbacks using sigc++ slots, and encapsulated CLIPS
execution environments.
Changes: This release adds a run_threaded() method to the Environment
class, which creates a separate thread and initiates execution of the
number of rules specified in a parameter, similar to the run() method.
Also added are other thread support methods such as join_run_thread(), et.
al. Although an environment is restricted to execution in a single thread,
this allows multiple environments to execute in parallel in multiple
threads. As a result, a new CLIPS::init() method has been added to
initialize the Glib threading system which must be called before any
clipsmm objects are instantiated.

About: Flagpoll is a tool for developers to use meta-data files for
storing information on what is needed to compile their software. Think of
it as the rpm of software development. It provides developers with total
control over which packages, versions, architectures, et cetera that they
want to use meta-data from. Instead of specifying other packages' cflags
and ldflag manually, you can call `flagpoll mylib --cflags --ldflags` and
it will retrieve the flags for its package as well as its dependencies.
Changes: PKG_CONFIG_PATH and FLAGPOLL_CONFIG_PATH are recognised for

databases.
Changes: Handling of skipped rows has been fixed. When reading multi-page

as case insensitive; stored table names are used when instantiating
tables. Databases and tables are iterable. Uppercase names are used when
adding text columns to indexes, which fixes a long standing problem with
table names starting with lowercase characters (and other situations where

About: JDBCImporter provides a consistent mechanism for importing data
from a file to a database, exporting data from a database to a file, and
generating data. It can run from the command line using an XML config
file or from inside an Ant build script. It works with CSV, fixed data,
and XML files and supports numbers, strings, and date/times as database
column types. Custom classes can be used to parse different file
formats, format column values into different file formats, translate
column values before importing or after exporting, or allocate or release
JDBC connections.
Changes: This release adds an attribute called 'encoding' to the 'entity'
element (that specifies the character set encoding).

About: UPPAAL is an integrated tool environment for modeling, validation,
and verification of real time systems, modeled as networks of timed
automata, extended with data types (bounded integers, arrays, etc.).
Typical application areas include real time controllers and
communication protocols, in particular those where timing aspects are
critical.
Changes: This release fixes several exceptions in the GUI, model
corruption in the optimiser of the virtual machine, and a memory leak in
convex hull approximation.

About: white_dune is a graphical VRML97 editor, simple NURBS/Superformula
3D modeller and animation tool. VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)
is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web via browser plugins
("HTML for realtime 3D"). It has support for animation, real-time
interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can
read, create and display VRML97 files and let the user change the
scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via
"quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices like
a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.
Changes: This release fixes missing MovieTexture.isPaused and
NavigationInfo.bindTime. Italian menus have been completed. Incorrect menu
disabling of MultiTexture and some COVER nodes has been fixed. Changes have
been made to the developer documentation. Incorrect routes from/to X3D
events in the Interpolation and Animation dialogs when in VRML97 mode have
been fixed. Incorrect writing of metadata events on writing of Script node
has been fixed.

[065] - xjobs 20060807
by Thomas Maier-Komor (http://freshmeat.net/users/komor/)

System

About: xjobs runs several jobs in parallel and limits the number of jobs
running at once so that every processor of the machine is busy, but not
overloaded. A batch of long-running processes invoked from the shell are
normally executed one after another, no matter how many processors are
available. xjobs allows batching those jobs while still keeping the
machine busy. The interface of xjobs is similar to that of xargs.
Changes: This release has a fix for xjobs failing if an executable is
given separately for each job. It fixes the input redirection issue. The
option -p is included in usage output.
