About: The Adobe Source Libraries (ASL) are a collection of C++ libraries
building foundation technology to allow the construction of commercial
applications by assembling generic algorithms through declarative
descriptions.

Changes: The controller, view, and placeable headers, their any_*
counterparts, and concept checking were introduced. A significant overhaul
was done for some widget APIs to model the new controller, view, and
placeable concepts. Significant GIL updates were made. Functionality
additions and corrections were made to many of the concrete widgets. Many
other bugfixes, updates, and additional documentation were added.

Text Processing :: Filters
Text Processing :: General

About: glark offers grep-like searching of text files, with very powerful,
complex regular expressions (e.g., "/foo\w+/ and /bar[^\d]*baz$/ within 4
lines of each other"). It also highlights the matches, displays context
(preceding and succeeding lines), does case-insensitive matches, and
automatic exclusion of non-text files. It supports most options from the
GNU version of grep.

Changes: Support was added for --with-fullname, --without-fullname,
--with-basename, and --without-basename, which limit the files to be
searched to those with full and base names matching the regular expression
given. A bug with --after and --before taking non-percentage arguments was

[016] - gscan2pdf 0.6.3
  by Jeff (http://freshmeat.net/users/3ra28145/)
  Fri, Sep 8th 2006 13:31

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Scanners
Office/Business

About: gscan2pdf is a GUI to ease the process of producing PDFs from
scanned documents. You scan one or several pages in with File/Scan, and
create a PDF of selected pages with File/Save PDF. At maturity, the GUI
will have similar features to that of the Windows Imaging program, but
with the express objective of writing a PDF, including metadata. Scanning
is handled with SANE via scanimage. PDF conversion is done by libtiff.
Perl is used for portability and ease of programming, with gtk2-perl for
the GUI. This should therefore work more or less out of the box on any
system with gtk2-perl, scanimage, and libtiff.

Changes: This release fixes the "scanimage: option --br-y: bad option
value" bug. Child windows are now hidden rather than destroyed to improve
speed and prevent multiple instances. This release adds the number of
pages to scan to the config file. There is a Renumber menu item. You can
configure save for PDF, scan, and window settings. Config file support has
been added for window maximize state. The order of options in the tiff2pdf
call has been changed for FreeBSD compatibility. Test output has been
moved to an external file. This release parses paper size from
device-dependent options.

[017] - Hebcal 3.7
  by Danny Sadinoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/dsadinoff/)
  Fri, Sep 8th 2006 02:18

About: Hebcal is a command-line utility which outputs Jewish calendar
data for one year. By default, its output is suitable for input to the
Unix calendar program, but it can be used to generate Websites as well.

Changes: This release addresses an important bug in the logic around Yom
HaAtzmaut ant Yom HaZikaron. In 2004, the Israeli government changed the
rules governing when those days may fall out, introducing a rule which
prevents Yom HaZikaron from falling out on Motzei Shabbat (i.e. Sunday).
In such a case where 4 Iyyar is Sunday, Yom HaZikaron is pushed out to
Monday, 5 Iyyar, and Yom HaAtzmaut is pushed to Tuesday 6 Iyyar. This bug
affected dates for Yom HaZikaron/Atzmaut in 2004 as well as 2007, among
other times in the future.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: JUCE is an all-encompassing C++ class library for developing
cross-platform applications. It's particularly good for creating
highly-specialised user interfaces and for handling graphics and sound.
The intended users are developers who are building large, complex
applications in C++ and who would like to use just one clean, high-level
API rather than a bunch of different libraries for different purposes or
platforms. Its features include fully lightweight components with
transparency and effects, classes for strings, containers, XML, streams,
file handling, messaging, and event queues, vector graphics, a custom font
engine, image manipulation, OpenGL support, low-latency audio I/O using
CoreAudio, DSound and ASIO, audio buffers and nodes, MIDI file and event
manipulation, Internet streams, undo/redo support, and more.

Changes: This release adds bugfixes for platform-specific issues, a couple
of new minor features, and some tidying and documentation improvements.

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Scanners

About: KScannerButtons is a daemon plus an optional KDE frontend for
monitoring your scanner buttons so that actions can be taken in response
to button presses. It's composed of a daemon (sanebuttond), a frontend
that will display an icon in the systray, and a dialog box to configure
and launch the daemon. It is based on the button monitoring capabilities
found in some SANE backends. It has been tested with the avision backend
and an HP 5300C scanner. The frontend requires Kommander (kde-webdev).

Changes: The [test buttons] .sh script has been fixed (it was not working
due to the new way of passing the dcopid). A problem in the daemon when
there was no --script-arg option has been fixed. This release enables the
use of the test script without the GUI. In a console:
SANE_DEFAULT_DEVICE=avision:libusb:002:003 sanebuttonsd --script
/usr/local/bin/sanebuttonsd-test.sh, where avision:libusb:002:003 is
replaced by your own device. The French translation has been fixed for the

About: LiVES is a simple to use yet powerful video effects, editing,
conversion, and playback system aimed at the digital video artist and VJ.
It uses commonly available tools (Mplayer, ImageMagick, and GTK+), so it
should work on most Unix-like systems. It runs under Linux, BSD, IRIX, and
openMosix (and soon OS X/Darwin). It works with almost all types of video,
and is fully extendable through plugins and the included plugin builder
tool.

Changes: Switching audio players was made easier. A few crash bugs were
fixed. Multitrack improvements were made. Dragging a clip to a point
before the start will insert it at time 0. Shift-left-arrow and
shift-right-arrow move left and right by one frame. Zoom-in and zoom-out
keys were added. Jumping to a boundary now uses two keys (ctrl-j, ctrl-l).
An "auto preview" option was implemented for effects. A "help" menu option
was added in multitrack. Autoreload clip set and autoreload layout were
added. Exporting projects which are not (yet) in a set was fixed. Empty
sets are now removed.

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
Utilities

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: One can now search in all windows, and results will be displayed
in a new window. "tai64" timestamps (as used by qmail) can now be
converted to something readable. A default set of filters can be put in a
configuration file. Several other enhancements, bugfixes, and performance
optimizations were done.

About: NeoLoad is a load testing tool for Web applications. By simulating
a large number of users accessing your application, it tests the
robustness and performance of a server under different loads. A clear and
comprehensive test report pinpoints errors and bottlenecks and answers
questions about the number of users a site can handle, if the site will
crash under load, and what the response times are. It is user friendly and
very easy to use, requiring no scripting, and allows you to design advanced
scenarios to handle real world applications.

Changes: This version comes with many new features that will allow you to
easily create scenarios on even the most advanced applications. Moreover,
the new optional modules provide specific advanced features, such as
automatic handling of dynamic parameters, advanced scenario customization
("While", "If...Then...Else", "Try...Catch", "Stop Virtual User", and
"Random Container"), a multiple authentication wizard, percentile graphs,
a SOAP module for Web services support, and dedicated platform and server

About: SmartVariables is a distributed "network shared memory" and object
database technology designed to reduce complexity by transparently sharing
information at the working program variable level. Sharing and update
behaviors do not need to be explicitly programmed. SmartVariables attach
an email-like "name" to each container or list; when the variable changes
value, it automatically propagates change events across the network into
other running processes working with that data. Applications do not poll
for content changes, as events are processed asynchronously.

Changes: This release compiles and runs using GCC 4.X. Order-of-processing
for object updates has been fixed. New object XML conversion code has been
added. There is a fix for the object name@localhost truncation bug. There
are VC++ and build system "make install" changes.

targeted at system administrators who want to get information out of their
system using Systemtap, as well as developers who wish to write new
scripts. It is an Eclipse-based application.

Changes: This release adds command line build options (x86, x86_64, and

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Office/Business

About: WebGUI is a content management framework built to allow average
business users to build and maintain complex Web sites. It is modular,
pluggable, and platform independent. It was designed to allow the people
who create the content to manage it online, rather than content management
taking up the time of busy IT staff. WebGUI comes with a full host of
features including shopping cart, subscriptions, forums, photo galleries,
FAQs, link lists, blogs, SQL reports, a Web services interface, and a very
configurable user privilege and profiling system.

Changes: Many bugs were fixed, and a few new minor features were added.
You now may assign multiple resources to a task in the project management
system, and you have the option of using asset versus real URLs for
images. This is a recommended upgrade for all WebGUI users.

[060] - Y.A.P.R.M. 0.5
  by Alil (http://freshmeat.net/users/Alil/)

Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling

About: Y.A.P.R.M. (Yet Another POV-Ray Modeller) is a powerful modeller
designed to seamlessly interact with the POV-Ray ray tracing renderer.

Changes: The new Y.A.P.R.M. has a completely new user interface. It now
has a tab on the left side containing a tree showing the layer structure.
This new layer tree view allows users to select layers as master layers in
the model database. Such master layers only consume the memory once. They
can be compared to the declare statement in the POV-Ray syntax. As part of
the visual redesign, the views are now improved and, in addition to wire
frame rendering, a flat shaded rendering is possible in the viewports.
Some new functions and objects have also been added.
