Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games

About: Ascal is a Gnome version of the board game Lasca (or Laska). Lasca
is a game similar to Draughts, but with some enhancements. You can refer
to the description in the help system of Ascal, or on Wikipedia. Ascal is
for one or two players. You can undo moves, save and load games, etc.

Changes: This release has a better AI, i18n possibility, a German
translation, and the beginning of Desktop integration.

[002] - AsItHappens 0.33
  by Mark Abrahams (http://freshmeat.net/users/markabrahams/)
  Sun, Sep 10th 2006 06:43

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: AsItHappens is a real-time network statistics collector and
grapher. It collects data from devices over a network via ICMP and SNMP
and displays them on a graph, optionally storing collected data in a
database for later retrieval. Collection types include network response,
bandwidth usage, processor usage, memory usage, Cisco NBAR, and Cisco
NetFlow. AsItHappens polls data in regular intervals, which can be as
short as every second, to give immediate feedback on network performance.
AsItHappens can also graph flow information from packet capture files.

Changes: This release fixes some minor bugs, including a failure creating
a Host Resources processor graph, and an inaccuracy in Net-SNMP statistics
by a factor of 1000. It also accounts for devices whose ifNumber does not
match the number of entries in the MIB's interfaces table. This release
adds an ANT task for building javadoc, and it corrects many documentation
errors.

  Sun, Sep 10th 2006 23:31

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for rapidly developing search
engines on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It's
scalable, easy to create, and fast to search. It runs on any
JDBC-supported relational database. It can work on any new systems or old
legacy systems that need full-text search, without changing existing
systems. It's based on the high-performance Lucene API. All parameters are
configurable through Web UI for configuring data retrieval, content
indexing, and displaying templates.

Changes: An XML and JSON result template was added. Multiple range
searching is supported with "+" and "-". When index hot-switching, loading
the temporary index into memory is avoided. The UnStored type can be
searched now. Duplicated records are avoided when incremental indexing and
a scheduled job are recreating the index.

[013] - goblinhack 0.3
  by goblin hack (http://freshmeat.net/users/goblinhack/)
  Sun, Sep 10th 2006 11:19

Games/Entertainment

About: Goblin Hack is the world's first and probably last
smooth-scrolling, ASCII-graphics-based, OpenGL accelerated, rogue-like
dungeon game. The brave and noble warrior must navigate through random
dungeons, picking up goodies and picking off baddies along the way. Quiver
in fear at the ASCII fireball-breathing Dragons, Beholders, Vampires, and
even the occasional Goblin.

Changes: The Windows installer wasn't working. This release has vampire
bats that change into vampires and back again. Very hard to beat coins and
some monsters now appear in clusters/groups. The numeric keypad can be used
for moving. Weapons no longer fire through walls. This release compiles on
FreeBSD, and make install has been added.

[014] - Gujin 1.5
  by Etienne (http://freshmeat.net/users/etiennelorrain/)
  Sun, Sep 10th 2006 15:19

System :: Boot :: Init

About: Gujin is a PC boot loader which can analyze your filesystems. It
finds the Linux kernel images available, as well as other bootable
partitions (for *BSD, MS-DOS, Windows, etc.), and displays a graphical
menu for selecting which system to boot. Because it understands the
structure of Linux kernel images, Gujin does not need LILO and can even
load very big kernels. There is no need to execute anything after making a
new kernel: just copy the kernel image file into the "/boot" directory.
Gujin is written almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in
real mode to be as compatible as possible.

Changes: This release has a demo of a standalone *.kgz directly executable
from Gujin (cleandisk.kgz). It can try a default IDE password when a hard
disk is locked (to get all IDE HD locked and only boot with Gujin USB
thumb disk or floppy; set this password at installation time). The major
bugfixes are concerning DOS tiny.exe no longer lowercasing the kernel
command line, a fix for a problem with HIMEM and GCC-4.1.1, and a fix for
a BIOS bug when finishing a CD-ROM disk emulation.

  by ThomasM (http://freshmeat.net/users/ThomasMueller/)
  Sun, Sep 10th 2006 15:14

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: H2 is an SQL database engine written in Java (but also available as
a native binary). JDBC and ODBC APIs are supported. Embedded and server
modes are available. A Web console application is included. Clustering is
supported.

Changes: New SQL statements 'set ignorecase', 'set compress_lob', and
'drop all objects' are implemented. The script file can now be compressed.
Compatibility with OpenOffice has been improved. Problems with the 'script'
command have been fixed. Deleting many rows from a table with a
self-referencing constraint with 'on delete cascade' works now. The Rownum
function can now be used with subqueries. A problem with correlated
subqueries has been resolved.

  Sun, Sep 10th 2006 15:12

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: User Interfaces
Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: Swing has lot of components built in, but still some are missing.
This project provides the developer community with these missing
components, inspired from modern user interfaces. It provides a
PropertySheet component, a collapsible task pane (JTaskPane), a button bar
(JButtonBar), a font chooser (JFontChooser), an Outlook Bar (JOutlookBar),
a Tip Of The Day dialog (JTipOfTheDay), and a directory chooser
(JDirectoryChooser).

Changes: A change in 6.9 broke the look and feel of several custom
components: these components would use only the default "basic" look,
instead of the one associated with the currently installed Swing look and
feel. This update is recommended for all users who upgraded to 6.9.

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: OpenDBX is an extremely lightweight but extensible C library for
accessing databases with a single API. It provides a clean and simple
interface across all supported databases that leads to an elegant code
design automatically. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MySQL, PostgreSQL,
SQLite, and SQL Server (MS and Sybase) are supported, and backends for
more native database APIs can be written easily.

Changes: This release contains the new Sybase backend which is based on
Sybase's ctlib for handling communication to ASE servers. In contrast to
the old dblib, it's much more flexible and will be able to support
prepared statements in the future. The freetds backend still exists and
can be used for connecting to a MS SQL Server and was therefore renamed to
mssql backend. A new schema for naming data types was introduced (the old
one will coexist for compatibility), and two bugs in the freetds backend
were fixed.

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: A new include file (bigint.s7i) and a new example program
