  Mon, Sep 11th 2006 08:49

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Active Image Viewer is an image viewer that provides a very
efficient way to display multiple images within a small area. Thumbnails
are automatically generated and displayed (removing the need to create
smaller versions of images). When a visitor clicks a thumbnail, the full
size image is displayed within the current page. Each full size image may
have a link attached to it which can be set to either open in the current
browser window or a new window.

Changes: Any number of images may be added to the viewer, and the display
area can be set to any size required. Alternative and popup text may be
assigned to all images. Images can be set to link to any page or URL and
open in any browser window or frame. Full URL support was added, including
window naming and frame targets. Thumbnails are automatically generated.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: AlphaMail is a mod_perl webmail system with a C++ middleware
component that is intended to make the system highly scalable. It supports
many Unix variants with any RFC-compliant IMAP server (including UW, Cyrus,
and Dovecot).

Changes: A few minor bugfixes. Some utilities have been renamed, and the
files have been moved around a bit so that they better conform to
filesystem standards. It would be a good idea to uninstall old packages
(if using RPM) before upgrading. Local apache and alphamail configuration
files will need to change to reflect this, so generating a new
configuration with the genconfig utility is recommended.

[005] - AMIDI-Plug 0.6
  by Giacomo Lozito (http://freshmeat.net/users/city_hunter/)
  Mon, Sep 11th 2006 22:08

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: MIDI
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: AMIDI-Plug is a MIDI subsystem for XMMS, BMP, and Audacious. It
processes MIDI files and sends their events to one of the available
backends (currently ALSA, FluidSynth, dummy). With the ALSA backend, any
hardware or software synthesizer, as long as it provides ALSA sequence
ports, can be used to play MIDI with AMIDI-Plug. With the FluidSynth
backend, AMIDI-Plug directly accesses the FluidSynth library for MIDI
playback and sends the generated audio into effect and output plugins of
the player. A dummy backend is also provided for testing and analysis
purposes. Playback is fully functional: play, stop, seek, pause, song
information are available.

Changes: Among other improvements, it is now possible to extract and
display lyrics/comments contained in MIDI files and to load multiple
soundfonts with the fluidsynth backend. This release also brings some
stability fixes, mostly for the GTK+ 1 (xmms) version.

[006] - And-httpd 0.99.11
  by Nevyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nevyn/)
  Mon, Sep 11th 2006 03:25

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: And-httpd is an HTTP server that maps URLs to files. In other
words, in can take an incoming URL and map it to a file in a number of
ways (for example, according to content type or language). It can also do
authentication or IP based ACLs. It cannot do CGI or other kinds of code
execution. It cannot even dynamically create directory listings (although
it comes with external tools to do so automatically, and to create a
"status page"). It currently has a $2000 "security guarantee" against
remote attacks.

Changes: Auto ETag support was added. ASCII and raw MD5 content is allowed
for the MD5 header. Unencoded authentication configuration is allowed. A
match-error-response was added, as well as a default confguration that
uses it to fix all the trailing character errors. TCP_CONGESTION support
was added. The user.mime_type extended attribute is inspected for a file's
MIME type. Other minor bugfixes and feature additions were made.

  Mon, Sep 11th 2006 08:38

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Botan is a C++ library of cryptographic algorithms. It includes a
wide selection of cryptographic algorithms (including AES, DES, SHA-1,
RSA, and DSA, among many others). It also support X.509 certificates and
several common certificate-related formats and protocols. It has a high
level interface, is easily portable to most systems and compilers, and
includes a substantial tutorial and API reference.

Changes: The configuration/build system has been largely rewritten, which
has allowed for some new features as well as a number of bugfixes. The
inheritance hierarchy of some of the core classes has been cleaned up,
though this should not affect most users. An implementation of the Serpent
block cipher in x86 assembler was added. The Python wrappers are greatly
improved, and are now usable for some real applications.

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: CkFormLogin is a plug-in for the Nagios network monitoring system
that makes it more useful in the context of secured Web sites (with login
forms) and access management/single sign-on protected environments.
Originally developed to monitor Web applications that require
authenticated access, it works by simulating an actual user login to
verify each and every step in the process. It can be used to continuously
verify the "end-user" functionality of secured Web sites, detect outages
in commercial access management products or externalized security
plug-ins, and quickly verify security system stability after large
configuration changes.

Changes: Initial release includes persistent/session cookie handling for
complex login scenarios, automatic multi-step redirect handling, login
page content validation, target page content validation, and optional
verification of post-authentication target URLs.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Contact Form is a Perl script that allows users to send you email
through a Web interface. It is designed to thwart spammers by not
allowing email to be sent to unknown addresses, or revealing the
addresses that it knows. In addition to this, it does not contain cross
site scripting vulnerabilities or allow arbitrary code to be run on the
host. It provides adequate information in the headers it sends to trace
spammers, can check the validity of all data before sending emails, and
features a customizable interface that allows for arbitrary fields.

Changes: Contactform now has support for drop-down select fields, and the
HTML is better able to be controlled via cascading style sheets (CSS).

[020] - Enhanced TightVNC Viewer 1.0.3
  by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
  Mon, Sep 11th 2006 09:51

Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: The Enhanced TightVNC Viewer package is part of the x11vnc VNC
server project. It provides a native VNC viewer that takes advantage of
new features in x11vnc, e.g. cursor alpha blending and automatic SSL
tunnelling. Some features apply to any VNC server, e.g. automatic SSH
tunnelling. Another goal is to provide a package that conveniently bundles
everything needed for the user to have the enhanced viewer running quickly.
This includes pre-built binaries of the viewer and utility programs for
Windows and many Unix variants, and a GUI to configure and launch the
viewer.

Changes: Port knocking functionality (where a secret pattern of firewall
accesses is used to open an otherwise closed SSH or SSL port) is
introduced. More assistance is provided in setting up local SMB file
sharing to the remote machine. The user can now change which VNC Viewer
(UltraVNC, RealVNC, etc.) is used by the front-end program. Additional SSH
port redirections may be specified. A non-VNC ssh login mode is added for
convenience, for example: to perform port knocking for regular logins.

deliver to a pipe, file, maildir, mbox, or SMTP server, based on a set of
regexps. It can be used for both single user and multiuser setups, and is
designed with privilege separation when running as root.

Changes: This version has a number of changes from 0.1, including IMAP
fetching and the ability to use an HTTP or SOCKS5 proxy, a "rewrite"
action to modify mail when running as non-root, a "not" operator to invert
regexp matches, some file permission checks, and a couple of bugfixes and
some code tidying.

[046] - lmappletserver 1.0.3
  by Jon Åkerström (http://freshmeat.net/users/xshaolin/)
  Mon, Sep 11th 2006 09:05

Software Development

About: lmappletserver is a framework for integrating Java applets into the
J2EE environment. Targeting EJB3.0 or other server objects, it allows
applets to access server logic as if they were local objects. Its features
include transparent remote access without RMI, automatic applet packaging
and deployment, and more. It runs over port 80 like a Web service, but
without the overhead. Server side methods are exposed to the applet simply
by using annotations.

Changes: An applet based on a jar file can be automatically packaged on
the fly, complete with resources. An applet based on a jar file can be
automatically signed on the fly. Applets which need to do out of sandbox
operations can be automatically signed. EJB3 is no longer a requirement.
For example, you may use ordinary POJOs in Jakarta Tomcat by annotating
them with @AppletService as long as you implement an
@AppletServiceInterface. Bugfixes, speed improvements, and other
improvements were made.

Changes: Waf is now contained into a single 100KB script to ease
redistribution. The compilation can be limited to particular targets or to
subdirectories. A global cache can be used to prevent unnecessary
recompilations. The standard targets configure, build, clean, distclean,
install, and uninstall are fully functional.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a
lot of features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server
which exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is
based on CORBA (using JacORB), RMI, XML-RPC, native socket, or a
persistent HTTP plugin. Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter
the messages they wish to receive and add their own MIME-based filter
plugins. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, VisualBasic.net, C#, and PHP client
demos are included in the xmlBlaster test suite, and Tcl and Python demo
clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also provides a browser callback
framework, allowing browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant
callbacks over a persistent http connection. A security plugin framework
allows authentication/authorization in many ways. Currently there are
LDAP- and passwd-based plugins available.

Changes: This release contains a C# client, a blocking request/reply
pattern, and many more smaller enhancements and bugfixes.
