Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share

leadership? Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or
HP value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe
it's the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source community.

[001] - Absolute OS 11.0.1
  by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
  Sat, Oct 28th 2006 01:56

About: Absolute OS is a fast Slackware derivative Linux distribution that
uses a Icewm and ROX-Filer window/file manager combination. It comes with
Firefox, The GIMP, MPlayer, K3B, Azureus, Gaim, Frostwire, Gftp, StarDict,
and many other titles all set up and ready to run. Several utilities are
included to ease configuration and management. It is compatible with all
Slackware 11 packages and can be installed just like a Slackware disk,
except that any choice of packages is removed, as it just installs
everything.

Changes: All copyrighted references to the mothership were removed. An
updated was made to Firefox 2.0. Two more maintenance utilities were added
and a few applications were tweaked. If detected and supported, the ALSA
sound and volume is configured and setup automatically during the first
boot.

  Sat, Oct 28th 2006 07:59

Software Development :: Build Tools
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

About: Cobras is a programming environment for Qt, and is written in Qt
itself. It is basic, but very functional and helpful. It is small, fast,
and easy in use. It consists of one binary file (plus an icon for the
desktop). It does not create its own files when working with a project,
but uses only the original '.pro' file.

Changes: The panel with the project files tree has been completely
rebuilt. The panel with the classes project tree has been rebuilt, there
is a new items sort procedure, and there are dedicated icons for slots and
signals. Changes have been made to the syntax highlighter. It is now
possible to configure a program's properties. When a program starts, it is
possible to load the last project and last opened files, etc. It is
possible to configure the behavior of the editor (tab width, auto
indentation, colors, backgrounds, etc.).

[010] - CRM-CTT 3.4.3 20061026
  by Hidde (http://freshmeat.net/users/hidde/)
  Sat, Oct 28th 2006 11:16

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks

About: CRM-CTT allows you to create entities (tickets) to which you can
attach files, place alerts, prioritize, etc. It is multi-lingual and
customizable. It can be used for any department in which something comes
in, must be handled, and goes out, such as bug tracking, systems
management (including assets) or helpdesk call tracking. It creates
management information and exports in PDF and Excel, and reports and
invoices in RTF format. Installation is done using a simple script, and a
clear manual is included. It's available in all major languages.

Changes: Since FormFinity is the default now, all forms can be adjusted
using the rich text editor. This means that you can now make all forms
look just the way you like. New in this version is fail-over database
support, and triggers can now be edited. This version also requires the
magic_quotes and register_globals PHP settings to be set off. This results
in a more secure installation which is better fit for the future. Also, the
main list can now be paginated. Extensive form caching and more use of CSS
makes CRM-CTT a lot faster. All open bugs were fixed.

[011] - Dnsmasq 2.35
  by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
  Sat, Oct 28th 2006 11:23

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of
diskless machines.

Changes: The prime reason for this release is to add a workaround for a
bug in the OpenBSD-4.0 kernel. OpenBSD-4.0 is due for release very soon
and no version of dnsmasq prior to 2.35 will do DHCP on OpenBSD-4.0. This
release also includes performance improvements when reading very large
/etc/hosts files.

[012] - ExactImage 0.2.5
  by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
  Sat, Oct 28th 2006 07:44

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick
requires, and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time
the "display" program takes.

Changes: This release adds default parameters to the public API (where
reasonable) and exports colorspace conversion. Numerous problems with the
external bardecode library have been addressed, such as the requirement of
certain pixel alignments. The econvert utility now uses the public API for
some operations in order to avoid code duplication.

Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games

About: Frozen Bubble is a game in which you throw colorful bubbles and
build groups to destroy the bubbles. In one-player mode, you must destroy
all the bubbles to access the next level. In multi-player modes, the goal
is to have your opponent die before you. Local one-player and two-player
modes are supported, and networked play is supported for modes ranging
from two to five players.

Changes: A new 1-player multiplayer training game mode was added. Network
(Internet) games with up to 5 players are now supported, with the ability
to transparently handle players behind NAT. LAN game is similar to network
game, except that no connection is made to the Internet. The graphics were
revamped and include 3D-based smooth penguin eye candy. The intro and 1p
music were redone as fully digital productions. Joystick support was
added. Recording and playback of games with non-predefined levels was
implemented along with real-time graphical effects in the menu screen and
anti-aliased and localized messages.

About: OpenVRML is a VRML and X3D browser plug-in and C++ toolkit for
incorporating VRML support into applications. OpenVRML provides VRML97 and
Classic VRML X3D parsers, a runtime, and an OpenGL renderer as C++
libraries. The renderer is fully separate from the runtime library so that
users can also provide their own renderer.

Changes: OpenVRML now includes openvrml-gtkplug, a reusable out-of-process
GTK+ VRML browser component. XPCOM usage has been removed from the Mozilla
plug-in. Bugs in the build system were fixed.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Internet :: Log Analysis

About: pgFouine is a PostgreSQL log analyzer. It allows you to have a
clear overview of your database activity, and can generate reports with
slowest queries, most frequent queries, errors, graphs, and so on. It is
written in PHP and is designed to parse huge log files with a low memory
footprint.

Changes: This release allows the -from and -to options to be used
separately. It fixes the RPM spec file, a problem with normalization which
caused negative and positive numbers to produce separate groups, a typo
which prevented the -from option from working, an error which occurred
when pgFouine did not find a query, and detection of malformed log files.

[031] - pipo 0.2
  by Corcalciuc V. Horia (http://freshmeat.net/users/SevenRains/)
  Sat, Oct 28th 2006 01:51

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: pipo is a quick tool to scan and parse directories recursively and
find images based on user-specified criteria, such as independent
resolution on both image axis or dominant color searches, and supporting a
large number of graphical formats. Similar to a find utility, pipo should
prove helpful to image triage or fast searches based on user input graphic
conditions which would otherwise be undetectable unless each file was
reviewed individually.

Changes: The program can now search the dominant color in an image based
on the RGB value. A filter was added so that pure colors as well as user
inserted values can be searched recursively on each image. The man page
was updated and a few stability issues were fixed within the code.
