[001] - anyfs-tools 0.84.9
  by unDEFER (http://freshmeat.net/users/undefer/)
  Thu, Nov 23rd 2006 12:40

System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools

About: anyfs-tools allows you to recover and convert filesystems while
using minimal extra disk space. Unlike other recovery tools, anyfs-tools
doesn't copy all the files found on other disks (or partitions), but only
saves information about the location of the file blocks to an external
inode table. After recovery, a user may mount the damaged filesystem with
anyfs and the external inode table and then interact with all recovered
files with any program.

Changes: An Anyfuse module was added (now kernel source dependence is
optional if you have FUSE). The Debian package was split into multiple
packages. A broken build_xfs in the last release was fixed. The progress
bar in anysurrect was fixed. build_it now gets blocksize from statfs, not
FIGETBSZ (important for vfat).

fluxbox, emelfm, links-hacked, ssh, tcpdump, nmap, chntpwd, and much more.
It provides full read-write support for NTFS partitions (using ntfs-3g),
and the ClamAV virus scanner (including a fairly recent signature database
and a GUI). It provides partition handling with gParted and also has a
network boot facility.

Changes: This release brings minor updates and a few bugfixes. The latest

About: KPowersave provides battery monitoring and suspend/ standby
triggers for KDE. It is based on the powersave package and therefore
supports APM and ACPI.

Changes: This is the first version without a depencency on the powersave
daemon/package. It depends on HAL >= 0.5.8.1, and uses it to get all
hardware info and set suspend/brightness/CPUFreq. Depending on your
system, you may need D-Bus and PolicyKit. pm-utils is preferred to suspend
via HAL. This release handles complete schemes including: CPUFreq, battery
warning levels and actions, AC/battery default schemes, and lidclose
actions. Users can't change these new settings via the GUI, only the

[020] - libhal++ 0.5.0
  by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
  Thu, Nov 23rd 2006 22:19

System :: Hardware

About: libhal++ is a C++ wrapper library for libhal and libhal-storage. It
has an API similar to glibmm/gtkmm and cairomm (yet requires only sigc++
for managing callbacks), and wraps the C libhal API into a compact and
usable C++ API without any fancy additions.

Changes: The footprint of using libhal (and thus hald, the hal daemon) was
considerably lowered by adding property watches for Hal::Devices only as
needed, as well as making Hal::Devices essentially singletons within
internal storage and management of the Hal::Context, and handing out
RefPtr wrapped instances of the singletons if already instantiated. The
public API remains unchanged as it was within the 0.4 releases.

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and
X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized
transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio over
the  Internet.

Changes: This release, together with the new NX node package, provides a
number of fixes for problems. For example, Mozilla Firefox may crash if
the Flash Player 9 Beta plugin is installed, XDM indirect query sessions
can fail to start, the X11 Agent may crash when handling the clipboard
selections, and RDP desktop is badly drawn on Debian Unstable.

[031] - Scala 2.3.0 (Scala 2)
  by Stephane Micheloud (http://freshmeat.net/users/s_micheloud/)
  Thu, Nov 23rd 2006 10:03

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Scala is a modern multi-paradigm programming language designed to
express common programming patterns in a concise, elegant, and type-safe
way. It smoothly integrates features of object-oriented and functional
languages including mixins, algebraic datatypes with pattern matching,
genericity, and more. It is well integrated with Java and .NET: the Scala
compiler produces standard Java class files or .NET assemblies, and
Java/.NET libraries and frameworks can be used without glue code or
additional declarations.

Changes: This release introduces binary incompatibilities. By recompiling
all of your code, you will guarantee smooth operation. If you cannot do
that, be aware of the changes. In particular, case classes now inherit
from scala.Product.

[032] - SRESI 0.17.1 (Development)
  by Priscus (http://freshmeat.net/users/priscus/)
  Thu, Nov 23rd 2006 15:39

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: Some long-deprecated help messages were culled. Tags were not
renamed when the change was only cosmetic. An exception was not being
caught when importing XML-based formats. Import functions now report
errors in more detail. A few functions were tweaked for better
performance.

[034] - TBCI 2.5.3 (Stable)
  by Kurt Garloff (http://freshmeat.net/users/garloff/)
  Thu, Nov 23rd 2006 22:17

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: TBCI is a C++ library which provides classes for Vectors, Matrices,
etc., and defines operations on them such as additions, multiplications,
etc. There are many Matrix classes providing specializations for different
sparse matrices. They all feature a similar interface. TBCI comes with an
extensive set of solvers for linear systems and an interface to lapack
libraries. It uses the temporary base class idiom, which avoids
unnecessary copying of data by having a notion of real and temporary
objects which are treated differently with respect to assignment and copy
c'tor.

Changes: A number of little bugs have been fixed. The CSCMatrix::setval()
function only worked with proper input sorting; malloc_cache can now
extend empty vectors; GMres and SVD are safer against badly prepared
input. The sources compile fine now with -pedantic. There are also a few
minor feature enhancements: All matrices now have a transpose() member.
Error checking messages have been improved. The SMP code now has
bind_threads() support, and better autotools support has been added. The
RPMs for i386 now contain libraries both with and without SSE2 support.
