by ntoll (http://freshmeat.net/users/ntoll/)
Sun, Feb 4th 2007 16:41
About: AIMLBot (Program#) is a small, fast, standards-compliant yet easily
customizable .NET DLL implementation of an AIML (Artificial Intelligence
Markup Language) based chatter bot. It boasts cross-platform
compatibility, a modular architecture, a simple and logical API, standards
compliant AIML support with the option for extensions via custom tags, very
small size (currently only 56k), and very fast performance (over 30,000
categories processed in under a second).
Changes: This release fixes a bug where XML namespace and schema
information caused the loading of AIML into the bot's memory to barf. The
topic handling part of AIML loading has also been made more efficient.

new kernel: just copy the kernel image file into the "/boot" directory.
Gujin is written almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in
real mode to be as compatible as possible.
Changes: This release fixes executables (instboot, addhole...) to run on
Debian and Knoppix, not just Fedora6. It adds some improvements to
"instboot --quickboot=1" behaviour (when a single system is installed on
the PC). There is a better diagnostic in instboot when it should generate
a partition table, and some improvement in the ELF loading process.

Sun, Feb 4th 2007 15:44
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: Gwyddion is a modular SPM (Scanning Probe Microsope) data
visualization and analysis tool. It can be used for all most frequently
used data processing operations including: leveling, false color plotting,
shading, filtering, denoising, data editing, integral transforms, grain
analysis, profile extraction, fractal analysis, and many more. The program
is primarily focused on SPM data analysis (e.g. data obtained from AFM,
STM, NSOM, and similar microscopes). However, it can also be used for
analyzing SEM (scaning electron microscopy) data or any other 2D data.
Changes: The guide was brought up to date with Gwyddion 2.4. Descriptions
of advanced correction methods (FFT filtering and drift compensation),
multidata functions (arithmetic, correlations, merge, and immerse) and new
functions and parameters were added. Distorted page layout in MSIE was
hopefully worked around. Many broken links were fixed. A rudimentary
subject index was added.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: hamsterdb is a database engine written in ANSI C. It supports a
B+Tree index structure, uses memory mapped I/O (if available), and can
create in-memory databases.
Changes: This release features some minor bugfixes and the implementation
of database cursors. You can use cursors to bi-directionally iterate over
your database, and to insert, erase, or replace entries. Cursors are very
fast; iteration and the "move to next/previous element" operation are
especially cheap. To see cursors in action, two example programs were
added.

[029] - ht://Miner 0.5.0
by Gabriele Bartolini (http://freshmeat.net/users/angusgb/)
Sun, Feb 4th 2007 16:21
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: ht://Miner is a system for Web usage mining and data warehousing
that allows for the discovery of knowledge from data (KDD) regarding usage
on the Web, such as unique visitors, sessions, and transactions. This
information is then organized in the PostgreSQL RDMBS.
Changes: This release is another important step towards stability. Several
bugs have been fixed and new features have been introduced at all the
different levels of the Web usage mining process. A key point is the
introduction of a multi-level summarisation framework in the custom data
warehouse. This architecture allows the use of a summary navigation system
(typical of data warehouses). Support for PostgreSQL 8.2.x has been added.
Although it cannot still be considered stable, this version is the best
available so far. Its usage for production is recommended.

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: An abstract data type to create interface types was added. The
matching of functions was changed such that interface functions are
preferred over non-interface functions. The error message that flags
incorrect access rights of actual parameters was improved. The handling of
interface (DYNAMIC) functions in the compiler was improved. The compiler
was improved to support the actions arr_cpy, drw_create, drw_destr,
drw_pfarcchord, and drw_pfarcpieslice. Several access rights changes for
file functions in seed7_05.s7i and other libraries allow the compiler to

[062] - sysstat 7.0.4
by Sébastien Godard (http://freshmeat.net/users/godard/)
Sun, Feb 4th 2007 03:35
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: The sysstat package contains the sar, sadf, iostat and mpstat,
commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity
information. The sadf command may be used to display data collected by sar
in various formats (XML, database-friendly, etc.). The iostat command
reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The
mpstat command reports global and per-processor statistics. The
information collected by sar can be saved in a file in a binary format for
future inspection. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer
rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network
activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel
activities, and TTY statistics, among others. Both UP and SMP machines are
fully supported.
Changes: linux/major.h was removed from the list of files included in
ioconf.c. It was actually not used and also prevented sysstat from being
compiled on GNU/kFreeBSD. The sysstat scripts (sa1, sa2, and sysstat) were
modified to enable the user to keep sar data for more than one month. The
(COMPRESSAFTER) parameter was added to /etc/sysconfig/sysstat. It gives
the number of days after which sar data files must be compressed to save
disk space.

[067] - uClinux 20070130
by David McCullough (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidmc/)
Sun, Feb 4th 2007 20:28
About: uClinux is a set of patches for Linux that supports MMUless
processors. It brings a full featured operating system onto platforms that
would otherwise run less advanced, simpler operating systems. uClinux gives
the programmer a Linux API with remarkably few concessions to the lack of
MMU (Memory Management Unit), and in terms of code size and efficiency it
has an advantage over standard Linux.
Changes: New kernels, many updates, and lots of platforms and fixes.

[068] - Ultimate++ 2007.1 beta
by Daniel Kos (http://freshmeat.net/users/unodgs/)
Sun, Feb 4th 2007 16:03
Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.
Changes: A "Chameleon" skinning system that allows both native look and
feel of U+ + applications across platforms and custom skins to be
designed/used. GTK is used on X11 platforms. The raster image
infrastructure has been completely reworked. New useful widgets: GridCtrl,
CalendarCtrl, and DateTimeCtrl. Experimental PocketPC support. A library
fix to support ARM and PowerPC CPUs. A lot of new documentation and
tutorials. A new Icon designer (supports alpha channel). Features missing
in X11 have been implemented (PDF export, printing, a tray icon, and
OpenGL support). Many minor improvements and bugfixes.

[070] - WANPIPE 2.3.4-7 (Stable)
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Sun, Feb 4th 2007 03:21
Communications
System :: Networking
System :: Operating System
About: WANPIPE S-series is a family of intelligent multi-protocol WAN and
ADSL adapters that support data transfer rates up to 8Mbps. All WAN
protocols supported by WANPIPE are implemented in firmware and run on the
card. An advantage of an intelligent adapter is that it offloads the
system CPU and improves stability. By adding a Sangoma WAN/ADSL component
to the Linux kernel, one can create a powerful multi-T1/ADSL
router/firewall with proven reliability of Linux. Sangoma S-series cards
support an optional on board T1/E1 CSU/DSU that eliminates all external
components of a traditional routing solution: i.e. T1/E1 line can be
directly connected to the card. WANPIPE supports the following protocols,
ATM, ADSL, Frame Relay, PPP, MULTILINK PPP, CHDLC, X25(API), BitStreaming
(API), BiSync(API), and SDLC(API). Furthermore, WANPIPE supports custom
API development such as: Credit card verification, Voice-over IP,
Satellite Comm. All device drivers are part of the standard Linux Kernel
distribution.
Changes: The AFT A104d T1 channel 24 now initializes correctly. The A200
voltage checker now reports the voltage correctly. Drivers now initialize
correctly when there are no initial FXO/FXS modules. Memory allocation now
works on low memory machines. Kernel support was added for Linux 2.6.18 and
2.6.19. Several race conditions on driver initialization and shutdown have
been fixed.
