[009] - Dnsmasq 2.37
by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
Mon, Feb 5th 2007 08:27
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP/TFTP for network booting
of diskless machines.
Changes: This release fixes a regression in version 2.36 which made the
--bogus-nxdomain flag unreliable and sometimes stopped dnsmasq from
caching DNS queries effectively. This release adds some performance tuning
and a LIMITS section in the man page which gives guidance on performance
under heavy load. It also improves DHCP over Firewire and DHCP over
InfinBand. The method for handling vendor-class encapsulated DHCP options
has been simplified.

[012] - Enhanced TightVNC Viewer 1.0.11
by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
Mon, Feb 5th 2007 11:15
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: The Enhanced TightVNC Viewer package is part of the x11vnc VNC
server project. It provides a native VNC viewer that takes advantage of
new features in x11vnc, e.g. cursor alpha blending and automatic SSL
tunnelling. Some features apply to any VNC server, e.g. automatic SSH
tunnelling. Another goal is to provide a package that conveniently bundles
everything needed for the user to have the enhanced viewer running quickly.
This includes pre-built binaries of the viewer and utility programs for
Windows and many Unix variants, and a GUI to configure and launch the
viewer. The short name for this project is "ssvnc", for SSL/SSH VNC
viewer.
Changes: Many new features and fixes to the Unix TightVNC Viewer appear in
this release. RealVNC ZRLE compression support has been added, along with a
16bpp mode for 32bpp displays and very low 64- and 8-color modes for 8bpp.
The -ycrop option is for use with x11vnc's client side caching to hide the
pixel cache region from view. It is applied automatically when use of the
caching is detected. The popup menu has been expanded to allow changing
many settings (color formats, encodings, cursor modes, and view-only) on
the fly without having to restart the viewer. Fullscreen toggling now
works on KDE.

[013] - fastutil 5.0.6
by Sebastiano Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/vigna/)
Mon, Feb 5th 2007 14:53
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: fastutil extends the Java Collections Framework by providing
type-specific maps, sets, lists, and queues for Java with a small memory
footprint and fast access and insertion; it also includes a fast I/O API
for binary and text files. The classes implement their standard
counterpart interfaces (e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into
existing code. Besides the usual features, fastutil provides
reference-based containers (which do not use equals() to compare objects)
and linked structures. Most iterators provided by fastutil classes are
bidirectional, or even implement the standard list iterator interface.
Changes: This release adds a better FastBufferedInputStream to fix
problems with standard Java input streams. A new front() method retrieves
elements equal to the top from queues.

[015] - Gmsh 2.0.0
by Christophe Geuzaine (http://freshmeat.net/users/geuz/)
Mon, Feb 5th 2007 08:20
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Gmsh is an automatic 3D finite element grid generator (primarily
Delaunay) with built-in CAD and post-processing facilities. Its design
goal is to provide a simple meshing tool for academic problems with
parametric input and advanced visualization capabilities. It is built
around four modules: geometry, mesh, solver, and post-processing. The
specification of any input to these modules is done either interactively
using the graphical user interface (based on FLTK and OpenGL) or in ASCII
text files using Gmsh's own scripting language.
Changes: This release adds support for STEP, IGES, and native OpenCascade
models. It also includes a brand new geometry and mesh graphics pipeline,
a new mesh I/O layer (with support for industry-standard UNV, BDF, and STL
files), and an improved graphical interface (with immediate application of
changes in the option panels and a reworked visibility browser). The
release also adds support for incomplete second order elements (8-node
quads, 20-node hexas, etc.), offscreen rendering, and scalable vector
graphics (SVG) output.

Office/Business
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
Office/Business :: Groupware
About: Open Blue Lab is a RAD framework (MDA based) that transforms UML
models in Web 2.0 portal applications without writing code. It is
currently being used to develop a full Web ERP from scratch. Portal layout
may be configured through the UI, and Ajax and HTML-based forms are
automatically built from XML widget definitions, which may be generated on
the fly from a UML model that describes your information system. Widgets
are dynamically populated, making them data-aware automatically at run
time with no need to code any database interaction. This framework allows
you to focus on Information System design, with forms and portal
architecture being generated automatically.
Changes: The generator has been improved. Forms are opened outside the
normal window, which permits a more intuitive style of navigation. AJAX
use makes editing data even easier. JasperReport integration permits the

[049] - rsyslog 1.13.1 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Mon, Feb 5th 2007 06:54
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: This is primarily a bugfix and compatibility release. Most
importantly, a bug was fixed that caused the database logging capabilities
to become disabled when support for compressed syslog was enabled. Also, an
issue with newer versions of the MySQL client library has been solved. The
new -e option has been added, which supports logging of all messages, even
if they are identical. Some performance enhancements have also been made.
There is no need to update to this version if you have 1.13.0 installed
and do not experience any problems.

collections. Unlimited user-defined fields are allowed. Filters are
available to limit the visible entries by definable criteria. Full
customization for printing is possible through editing the default XSLT
file. It can import CSV, Bibtex, Bibtexml, RIS, MODS, CDDB, and audio file
metadata and exports CSV, HTML, Bibtex, Bibtexml, ONIX, and PilotDB.
Entries may be imported directly from Amazon.com, imdb.com, any z39.50
bibliographic server, PubMed, or an external script.
Changes: Secondary and tertiary sorting was fixed. A bug that caused
z39.50 results to be dropped was fixed. Relative URLs are now compared
correctly in file catalogs. The CDDB import was updated to insert EXTD
data into the comments field and category as a keyword. Files downloaded
using the NewStuff dialog are uninstalled cleanly. Disc number is taken
into account for MP3, Ogg, and flac files when importing audio file
metadata.

[062] - UMLGraph 4.6
by Diomidis Spinellis (http://freshmeat.net/users/diomidis/)
Mon, Feb 5th 2007 07:02
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Software Development :: Documentation
About: UMLGraph facilitates the declarative specification and drawing of
UML class and sequence diagrams. One can specify a class design using the
Java syntax complemented by Javadoc tags. Running the UmlGraph doclet on
the specification generates a Graphviz diagram specification that can be
automatically processed to create Postscript, GIF, SVG, JPEG, fig, or
Framemaker drawings. Similarly, sequence diagrams are specified using
declarative pic macros and compiled with the GNU plotutils pic2plot
program into a PNG, PNM, (pseudo) GIF, SVG, AI, Postscript, CGM, FIG, PCL,
HPGL, Regis, or TEK drawing.
Changes: This version introduces a portability fix so that UmlGraphDoc can
now run again under Unix. This fixes a serious bug introduced in version
4.5.
