[001] - AcpiTool 0.4.7
by DLeemans (http://freshmeat.net/users/dleemans/)
Tue, Feb 6th 2007 13:14
System
System :: Systems Administration
About: AcpiTool is a Linux ACPI client. It's a small command line
application, intended to be a replacement for the apm tool. The primary
target audience are laptop users, since these people are most interested
in things like battery status, thermal status and the ability to suspend
(sleep mode). The program simply accesses the /proc/acpi or /sysfs entries
to get or set ACPI values. A computer running a Linux kernel from the 2.4.x
or 2.6.x series with ACPI enabled is needed. It also supports various
extensions for Toshiba, Asus, and IBM Thinkpad laptops.
Changes: This release adds support for frequency scaling.

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
About: Amarok is a sound system-independent audio-player for Unix. Its
interface uses a powerful "browser" metaphor that allows you to create
playlists that make the most of your music collection.
Changes: This release adds an integrated Shoutcast stream directory,
support for custom labels, and an improved Magnatune shop download
manager. The sound quality of the equalizer has been greatly improved.
Amarok is now able to compile natively on OS X. Many bugs have been fixed,
and the user interface was improved.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: aria2 is a utility for downloading files. It has completely new
design concept from its predecessor, Aria, and is written from scratch.
aria2 has a segmented downloading engine in its core. It can download one
file from multiple URLs or multiple connections from one URL. This results
in very high speed downloading, much faster than ordinary browsers. This
engine in was implemented in a single-thread model. The architecture is
clean and easy to extend. aria2 currently supports HTTP, FTP, and
BitTorrent. It also supports Metalink version 3.0.
Changes: This release lowers CPU usage when the --max-upload-limit option
is used in BitTorrent, and fixes the bug in chunk checksum validation in
Metalink.

[004] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.8.8h
by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
Tue, Feb 6th 2007 22:57
System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ and DMZ-2-LAN
forwarding, protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, and extensive user
definable logging with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It has
plugin support to add extra features (like SSH Brute Force protection and
(Racoon) IPSEC support). It is easy to configure and highly customizable.
A filter script that makes your firewall log more readable is also
included.
Changes: The custom-rules plugin code now shows how many plugins were
actually loaded (not found, like in the previous versions). A bug in the
custom-rules plugin that caused errors when more than one plugin was used
was fixed. Updates were made to the fwfilter man page. The
COMPILED_IN_KERNEL_MESSAGES option was added to disable the
compiled-in-kernel messages during startup. The multiroute plugin was
added to the package.

[005] - Axiomatic Multi-Platform C 1.6.0
by napi (http://freshmeat.net/users/napi/)
Tue, Feb 6th 2007 07:41
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Axiomatic Multi-Platform C (AMPC) is a C to Java class file
compiler suite for the development of platform independent applications.
AMPC can also be used to integrate C and Java programs since AMPC's C
functions can directly call numerous Java methods and vice versa. AMPC
supports ANSI C 1989 (except for the library functions setjmp(),
longjmp(), signal(), and raise()). It can be used to develop new
applications using C as well as port existing applications written in C to
run on JVM enabled devices. A JNI (JVM Native Interface) feature is
available for calling native C or C++ functions. The asm() directive can
be used to embed Jasmin assembly code within C source code. Support for
the SWT (Standard Widget Toolkit) based graphics API is available. J2ME
CDC 1.1 for mobile devices is also supported.
Changes: "double" is now 64 bits long. Therefore, "DOUBLE" is not needed
anymore and has been taken out. Several bugs were also fixed.

Office/Business
About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, and spot and
calibrated color.
Changes: The number and size of temporary objects allocated when reading a
PDF has been reduced, and the number of intern() Strings has been reduced
to lessen the load on the PermGen space. An option has been added to not
intern() dictionary keys. This slows things down, but may reduce long-term
memory requirements for some users. Details are in Appendix B of the user
guide. This release handles inline images with Indexed Colorspaces, and
correctly renders 2 and 4-bit non-indexed images. Improvements to XMP
handling should result in less warnings.

[007] - Big Faceless Report Generator 1.1.34 (Stable)
by BFO (Big Faceless Organization)
(http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
Tue, Feb 6th 2007 11:22
Documentation
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: The Big Faceless Report Generator is a Java application for
converting source documents written in XML to PDF. Built on top of the Big
Faceless PDF & Graph Libraries, the Report Generator combines these
features and wraps an XML parser around them. Using JSP, ASP, XSL, or
similar, creating dynamic PDF documents directly from a database is now as
easy as HTML.
Changes: NullPointer has been fixed when a table is created with a height
attribute but no rows. Barcodes can now be created with any height, to
mirror the same change in the PDF library. The "min-height" attribute can
be used to ensure the height doesn't go below the minimum recommended
height of a barcode. A typo in the DTD has been fixed.

[015] - Diluculum 0.4
by Leandro Motta Barros (http://freshmeat.net/users/lmbarros/)
Tue, Feb 6th 2007 13:11
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Diluculum is a library that intends to make the coexistence of C++
and Lua more harmonious. In this regard, it offers essentially three
"services": a nice way to access data stored in a Lua interpreter; a not
so bad way to write functions in C++ and make them available to Lua; and a
limited and just barely usable way to register C++ classes and objects in a
Lua state.
Changes: When exporting C++ classes to Lua, it is no longer necessary to
call two macros for each exported method. Support has been added for
creating dynamically loadable modules (those Lua modules stored in a
dynamic library, which is loaded when the Lua programmer says "require
'MyModule'").

you cannot attack or be attacked, and cannot perform covert operations.
This provides a way for smaller empires to build up their defenses and
planets before they enter the real world.

[070] - visprint 2.1
by Samhain (http://freshmeat.net/users/samhain5/)
Tue, Feb 6th 2007 23:06
Multimedia :: Graphics
Security :: Cryptography
About: Visprint makes cool fractal fingerprint PNG images based on the
contents of any file. The image will be different for almost every file
with even slightly different contents. Visprint uses the IFS fractal
generation process pioneered by Michael Barnsley. It is a way to create
images that are self-similar to infinite depths. In other words, the
picture is made up of smaller versions of itself. Visprint takes a hash
function checksum as its input.
Changes: The option of using different hash functions as input was added
with the -l switch. The option of using an alternate color scheme by
flipping RGB to BGR was added with the -c switch. The grayscale color
scheme was polished and fixed. The previous -c switch was renamed to -a
(area coloring scheme). A bug in the transparency code was fixed. The man
page and the help screen were updated. Some minor bugfixes and code
cleanups were done.
