About: Advanced Website Creator is a Web development environment. Created
websites use an MVC framework written in PHP 5 and a simple database
abstraction layer. At present the database layer supports MySQL and
PostgreSQL as backends. All PHP classes are auto-loaded, so there is no
need to include() or require() files manually. Search engine friendly URLs
are supported via mod_rewrite.

Changes: A bug that prevented creation of new PHP includes has been fixed.
The description of the "Download" forward type was corrected in the manual.
A bug has been fixed that caused Web sites without an explicitly configured
database connection mechanism to be built incorrectly.

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Hardware

About: amforth is a distribution of Forth running on the AVR ATmega
microcontroller. Once put into flash, it needs only a serial connection to
the host computer. New words are compiled directly into flash, thus
extending the dictionary immediately. It is ans94 Forth oriented with some
minor exclusions and a few words from the extension word sets. It is
written in assembly language and Forth itself. The main development uses
ATmega8 and ATmega32 controllers; other ATmega controllers should work
with small adjustments.

Changes: This release adds more words from the standard word sets and
fixes a few nasty bugs. There are a lot of internal changes.

About: ACC (AspeCt-oriented C) enables aspect-oriented software
development with the C programming language. AspeCt-oriented C consists of
a compiler that translates code written in AspeCt-oriented C into ANSI C
code. This code can be compiled by any ANSI C compliant compiler.

Changes: Weave adapters were added to integrate ACC into large builds.
Debugging support was added and error reporting was improved.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis

About: The aim of auch is to visualize harmonics in musical recordings.
Many tools show the spectrum, but this tool focuses on one or two specific
octaves with an indication of the tonica (the key) and sub-dominant(IV) and
dominant(V). It also supports wavelet transformation and resampling to
further analyze and clean-up the recording. This way, notes, chords, and
harmonics in a musical piece become more clear. Another feature is that
this tool can compare outgoing audio (from a .wav file) with incoming
audio (microphone). This way, the effect of external filters can be
tested.

Changes: The new 'reconstruct' command in *auch* is an experiment in
manipulating harmonics. It is meant to see how many harmonics are needed
for music to 'sound good'. After removing harmonics (with a bandpass
filter), certain harmonics are regenerated, with output going to a .wav
sound file. You hear and see how harmonics influence the perception of
music. This release also includes documentation, examples, and improved
IFS display.

About: basil gives you meaningful Web traffic reports by analysing your
data for you and providing a different perspective of your site and how it
is performing. Many Web analytics tools fail because they give you raw data
(tables, numbers, and meaningless charts) and rely on you to make sense of
this data. basil solves this problem by providing intelligent interfaces
that answer questions like "What are my most popular pages?", or "Which
search engine delivers the most traffic to my site?".

  Wed, Mar 14th 2007 06:20

Software Development :: Libraries

About: C-Pluff is a plug-in framework for C programs. It has been strongly
inspired by the Java plug-in framework in Eclipse. C-Pluff focuses on
providing core services for plug-in interaction and plug-in management. It
aims to be platform neutral and supports dynamic changes to plug-in
configuration without stopping the whole application or framework. It does
not yet provide special facilities for distribution such as signed plug-in
packages or remote plug-in repositories, but it is possible to build such
features on top of the current framework.

Changes: This is the initial release. It includes complete source code for
the initial implementation, known to compile on Linux with GCC and with
MinGW. It also includes reference documentation for various API elements,
but higher level documentation is not included yet.

Security

About: CacheGuard OS is a Linux based operating system dedicated to Web
traffic control and optimization. It transforms an x86 based machine to a
powerful, affordable Web gateway appliance. It allows you to control all
Web traffic that passes through a CacheGuard appliance. It proxies HTTP,
HTTPS, and FTP. It supports HTTP transparent implementation, HTTP
compression methods, caching technologies, and user-defined black and
white lists. It features a fireWall with NAT and PAT, bandwidth management
(QoS), Web-based and SSH-based administration interfaces, and high
availability.

Changes: A bugfix has been made in the network installation module. Now
the tftp command is found. The latest changelog refers to the command “fw”
followed by the keyword “out”. This is an error in the changelog; the
keyword “out” does not exist. The correct keyword is “intern”.

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: cb2Bib is a tool for rapidly extracting unformatted bibliographic
references from email alerts, journal Web pages, and PDF files. It
facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted sources.
References are written in BibTeX. A PDF file with the article text, if
available, can be easily linked and renamed by dragging it onto the
cb2Bib window. Reference manager applications can later retrieve,
import, and display these BibTeX references.

Changes: The embedded BibTeX editor incorporates a browser display mode
that enhances file navigation and reference presentation. Advanced
reference search capabilities are included. Several issues regarding
automatic recognition and dialog functionality were addressed.

[012] - Common Lisp Kanji Drill 0.1.1
  by Kaz Kylheku (http://freshmeat.net/users/kazkylheku/)
  Wed, Mar 14th 2007 06:18

Education :: Testing

About: CKLD (Common Lisp Kanji Drill) is a tool that is useful to students
of Japanese who face the task of memorizing hundreds or thousands of kanji.
The program allows the student to challenge him or herself by means of
self-administered tests which are generated according to various
parameters. CLKD can save its state at any time, so interrupted learning
sessions can be resumed. The program also maintains a detailed response
history, based on which it identifies weak areas in the student's memory,
which can be targeted with specially-generated tests. A Web browser is
used as the UI.

Changes: Configuration fixes were made: ASDF was hacked into building in a
separate build directory, eliminating the need to use "lndir" in the
configure script, and thus the check for "lndir", etc.

About: A portal project to produce a Web-based front end to a compute
resource, such as a cluster, using PHP, MySQL, and Apache. The intent is
to allow non-programmers to use complex programs through an intuitive
interface.

Changes: Some bugfixes, but the big item is Sun Grid Engine support. The
portal can now be a frontend for a ROCKS cluster. The session management
still needs work, but is stable and not too resource intensive.

[014] - Conary 1.1.18 (1.1)
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Wed, Mar 14th 2007 09:13

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: The changeset format has been enhanced (backwards compatibility).
Experimental caching proxy and derived package support have been added.
Group definition and cooking has many enhancements.

About: kchmviewer is a CHM (Winhelp) files viewer written in Qt/ KDE. It
can be build as a stand-alone Qt-based application or a KDE application.
The main point is compatibility with non-English CHM files, including most
international character sets. It has the features set of standard viewer:
search (including non-English CHMs), bookmarking, font size changing,
index/content browsing, codepage support, and more.

Changes: The most important improvement is a new search engine which can
correctly search in any language (including Asian languages) and can
search for words that contain non-alphanumeric characters. DCOP bindings
were added for the KDE version. Chm procesing code was moved into a
separate library and was rewritten to be as much as 20 times faster for
loading large chm files. A lot of old bugs were fixed, including "Copy" in
KDE, removing a duplicated application title, and incorrect popup menu
position.

About: KeyJnoteGUI provides a nice KDE frontend to KeyJnote. KeyJnote is a
somewhat different presentation program. It uses OpenGL to present some
cool visual effects during a presentation. More useful, but not less
visually appealing, are the zoom mode and the highlighting features. Much
of the behavior of KeyJnote is controlled by command line switches.
KeyJnoteGUI gives you control over the most widely used switches. Now you
can watch cool presentations without using the command line.

Changes: This release brings support for the new features of KeyJnote

  by Norbert Sendetzky (http://freshmeat.net/users/nsendetzky/)
  Wed, Mar 14th 2007 00:14

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The OpenDBX library provides a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The function
library is written in the C programming language and aims at implementing
access to the native database interfaces efficiently via a thin
abstraction layer. It consists of a basic set of functions that are part
of all vendor database libraries and can be extended by additional
function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS SQL Server, MySQL,
Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are supported.

Changes: Several small enhancements were added to this release. The most
important one is the possibility to build the package as single library
including the necessary backends. Also, the library now supports
connection timeouts and returns the library and the API versions of the
backends. A patch for the firebird backend fixed its decimal type while
another one did the same for the date type of the mssql backend. The
library and the backends now return a new error code for invalid handles
so they can be distingushed from other invalid parameters.

[049] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 5.19
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Wed, Mar 14th 2007 15:57

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into C,
C++, Objective-C, or D code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at
any point in a regular language, and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. It also supports the construction of scanners and the building
of state machines using state charts. It can be used to create very fast
recognizers and parsers that are also robust.

Changes: An import statement was added, allowing defines and variables
from the host language to be imported into Ragel specifications. A export
statement was added, allowing single-character machine definitions to be
written out to the host code as a define. All machine instantiations are
now generated regardless of whether or not they are referenced, and entry
points are written out in the generated code. These entry points can be
assigned to the current state outside of the processing loop. Other minor
feature additions and fixes were made.

About: SPServer is a server framework library written in C++ that
implements the Half-Sync/Half-Async pattern. It's based on libevent in
order to utilize the best I/O loop on any platform. SPServer can simplify
TCP server construction. It is a hybrid system between threaded and
event-driven, and exploits the advantages of both programming models. It
exposes a threaded programming style to programmers, while simultaneously
using event-driven style to process network connection.

[057] - tenshi 0.7
  by Andrea Barisani (http://freshmeat.net/users/lcars/)
  Wed, Mar 14th 2007 06:59

System :: Monitoring

About: tenshi (formerly wasabi) is a log monitoring program designed to
watch a log file for lines matching user defined regular expressions and
report on the matches. The regular expressions are assigned to queues that
have an alert interval and a list of mail recipients. Queues can be set to
send a notification as soon as there is a log line assigned to them, or to
send periodic reports. Additionally, uninteresting fields in the log lines
(such as PID numbers) can be masked with the standard regular expression
grouping operators ( ). This allows cleaner and more readable reports. All
reports are separated by hostname and all messages are condensed when
possible.

Changes: The fifo option can be specified multiple times. Logfile and fifo
mode can be simultaneous. A better pipe opening method is used for the tail
process. includedir now sorts entries alphabetically. Standard input is now
closed as soon as possible. The alarm based timeout was replaced with
IO::Select. A minor fix was made for getpwnam checks. The sort_order
option was added. A listen option was added for syslog server mode. A Red
Hat init file and RPM spec were added.

[065] - Xrefactory 2.0.11 (For C and C++)
  by Marian Vittek (http://freshmeat.net/users/vittek/)
  Wed, Mar 14th 2007 07:20

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Xrefactory provides code completion, source browsing, and
refactoring functions for Emacs and XEmacs. It is based on full
pre-processing, parsing, and static analysis of sources and works with the
C, C++ (and Java 1.4) languages. It contains a stand-alone cross
referencer, and a generator for HTML documentation.

Changes: This release allows faster browsing with automatic updates of
tags. Completions can display fragments of source code, giving better
information about symbol types. An option for resolving symbolic links in
path names has been implemented. Multiple compilations of the same file
result in multiple parsings by the browser. Among other bugs, an important
problem in error recovery, a problem with browsing externally modified
files, a problem with the installation script, and few problems with
method extraction were fixed.
