[001] - A Simple Version Control System 0.9.6
  by Craig Spurrier (http://freshmeat.net/users/cspurrier/)
  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 14:04

Software Development
Software Development :: Version Control

About: A Simple Version Control System is an easy to install and easy to
to use version/revision control system. It differs from most other version
control systems in that it is designed to keep track of files in place. It
does not allow any changes to be made to files; all changes require the
users to change files externally with FTP or SSH access. It is very easy
to set up and use. Users do not need to work with repository, branches,
commit, and check-out files. All a user needs to do is upload the changes
files and click Update, or if enabled, just wait for it to be updated
automatically.

Changes: This version introduces a new XHTML/CSS template system, a new
installer, improved navigation, and several miscellaneous bugfixes.

  by Piotr Kodzis (http://freshmeat.net/users/akkada/)
  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 13:36

System :: Monitoring

About: akk@da is a simple network monitoring system designed for small and
medium size computer networks. Its purpose is to quick detect system or
network faults, and to display information about detected problems for the
administrator. It is designed as a pro-active network monitor. It does not
wait for information from any agents, systems, etc. It collects
information itself every minute (you can decrease this period to as little
as 1 second if needed). Almost all services of the monitored hosts are
discovered automatically.

Changes: This release fixes a major bug with a deadlock in the tree_cache
process. It adds support for the Cisco HSRP protocol and APC UPS devices.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random,
Least Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to
set up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports
SNMP, integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: The capability to specify external "alert" and "upalert"
notification scripts in the gateway section of the configuration has been
added. The BalanceNG "Full Node License" now enables full functionality
for all instances of BalanceNG on the same physical host. The manual has
been updated to release 1.814.0.

[004] - Batchput 0.9.2
  by Johan Warlander (http://freshmeat.net/users/jwarlander/)
  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 09:42

About: Batchput transfers files from a local directory, matching the regex
you specify, to a URL (FTP, FTPS, SFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, or anything else
supported by PycURL). Written in Python, it is primarily intended to
transfer "incoming" files continually to another host by being called
regularly from crontab or similar. It focuses on doing this safely and
efficiently by using per-directory locking to avoid collisions between
different batchput processes, allowing configuration of notification in
case of error (email by default, but can be any shell
command/script/program), and moving transferred files to a local backup
location where they can be archived or simply deleted.

Changes: Rewritten to use PycURL instead of ftplib for transfers, allowing
URL destinations for a wide range of protocols. Other less important
changes include a --verbose option and the possibility of specifying a
single file to transfer instead of a directory.

[005] - bit 0.4.0
  by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 00:23

Software Development :: Libraries

About: bit is a library that makes it easier to dynamically manipulate
data buffers containing fields that do not have octet (byte) boundaries.
An example is the IP header, which is generally dealt with at compile time
via bit fields in a structure. A key feature of the bit library is support
for loading data formats described in XML files and dynamically parsing
those fields at run time. This library was initially created to support
reading various kinds of robotic device I/O (IR sensors, motors), but it
has also been used for run time parsing of IP, TCP, UDP, and RTP headers.

Changes: bit::Data was moved to a deep allocation mechanism to allow for a
more natural copy syntax.

  by Jay Eckles (http://freshmeat.net/users/ecklesweb/)
  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 22:59

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: CGI Calendar is a CGI-based event calendar that does not require
an SQL database. It supports unlimited events per day that can be sorted
by time and by summary. Events are editable and can be described using
HTML. It features month, day, and single event views, password
protection, a UI controlled by HTML templates and CSS, and support for
multiple calendars with a single installation.

Changes: Repeating events were implemented. Multiple database
functionality was improved. A "group" metaphor was introduced where each
database is a separate group available via an optional drop-down menu on
the calendar. The language drop-down menu is now optional. Web-based
administration of language functionality and groups was added. This can be
used to set the default language and show or hide the language drop-down.
It can also be used to add, delete, rename, or set default groups. The
HTML generated is now valid. This fixes display bugs in Opera.

  by Michael Sweet (http://freshmeat.net/users/easysw/)
  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 08:30

Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries

About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.

Changes: This version fixes several printing issues and a scheduler crash
bug.

  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 23:04

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Kitikat Java Framework is a powerful but simple Datastore
processing framework. A Datastore represents an in-memory copy of data. A
program may retrieve the data from a data source, such as a relational
database, manipulate the data, and then propagate the updates of the data
back to the original data source or to a different data source. Once the
data is retrieved, it is a disconnected, data source independent version
of the data. A change history of the data is maintained to provide dynamic
updates to a data source, and there are several levels of concurrency
control provided for multi-user environments.

Changes: This version incorporates the unreleased version 6.11. Package
restructuring and minor enhancements were done.

System :: Monitoring

About: The Prelude Library (libprelude) is the glue that binds all aspects
of Prelude together. Prelude is a hybrid Intrusion Detection framework
implementing an open communication layer for use by any security
application. libprelude is a library that enables Prelude components to
communicate with the Prelude concentrator. It also makes it easy for third
party software to be made 'Prelude Aware' (able to communicate with Prelude
components). It provides common, useful features used by every sensor.

Changes: Substring and regexp matching were implemented for the IDMEF
AdditionalData type. When the compiler supports it, a format string check
capability was added to function declarations with a variable number of
arguments. A prelude-adduser regression introduced in libprelude-0.9.13
was fixed. A regression that prevented broken down time and regex matching
from working was fixed. A bug when manually setting an IDMEF path index was
fixed. Invalid pointer dereference is prevented when passed invalid
enumeration class. GMT offset is initialized when setting a time from an
NTP string. Various bugs were fixed.

[055] - pkpgcounter 2.16
  by Jerome Alet (http://freshmeat.net/users/jalet/)
  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 14:09

Utilities

About: pkpgcounter parses files and outputs the number of pages needed to
print them. It can also, for certain file formats, compute the percentage
of ink colors covering each page. It currently recognizes the following
formats: PostScript (both DSC compliant and binary), PDF, PCLXL (a.k.a.
PCL6), PCL3/4/5, ESC/P2, DVI, TIFF, OpenDocument (ISO/IEC DIS 26300),
Zenographics ZjStream, Samsung QPDL (a.k.a. SPL2), Samsung SPL1, and Plain
text.

Changes: PCL3/4/5 failed to correctly compute the number of pages in
documents generated by "old style" printer drivers, which defined a number
of lines per page and expected the printer to skip to the next page
automatically, instead of skipping to the next page only after having
received a specific command. This release fixes this problem.

About: poker-network includes a poker server, a client library, an
abstract user interface library, and a client based on it. The server
deals the cards and checks the user actions using a poker game engine
(poker-engine). It listens on a TCP/IP port and understands its own
specific protocol. The persistent information is stored in a MySQL
database. The client library implements the poker-network protocol for the
client. The abstract user interface library provides a framework based on
the client library and suited to implement a user friendly client.

[059] - py_ecc 1.4
  by Emin (http://freshmeat.net/users/emin63/)
  Thu, Mar 15th 2007 04:18

Scientific/Engineering

About: py_ecc is an implementation of Reed-Solomon codes, which are used
for erasure correction, and a collection of routines for finite field
arithmetic and generic matrix operations. Erasure correcting codes let you
divide information, such as a file or a packet, into n pieces, of which k
are required for reconstruction. It provides a clear, easy to understand
reference for other implementations of linear error correcting codes, and
contains extensive documentation and a number of detailed examples and
tests.

Changes: A bug where the Conway Polynomials in ffield.py were being
reversed was fixed. They were still irreducible so the resulting fields
still worked, but were not technically fields generated by Conway
Polynomials.

About: wmMand is a Window Maker dockapp that allows you to browse or

work, for example). Error trapping for malloc calls has been added. A
