Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: The correct surface normal is now used when calculating lighting;
a Klein bottle example was added. The front/back detection of the
transverse skeleton of solids of revolution was fixed. A better
camera-independent reference value for resolving path3 orientation is
used. A 3D midpoint routine was added. Tick values for broken axes can now
be autogenerated; broken logarithmic axes are also supported. A 2D aligned
axes example was added. A patch that fixes a redisplay bug in gv-3.6.2 is
included.

[012] - Conary 1.1.22 (1.1)
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 08:11

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: Group scripts can control rollback invalidation with sufficient
granularity. Conary repository proxy configuration was significantly
enhanced. Cross-compiling support was enhanced with a "target" flavor.

The player and his or her companions crash on an alien planet where they
discover that the original intelligent inhabitants are now extinct due

much you can do yet, just a few monsters that you can kill and a single
quest.

[025] - GNU Transport Layer Security Library 1.6.2
  by Simon Josefsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/jas4711/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 10:36

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GNU Transport Layer Security Library is a library which implements
a secure layer over a reliable transport layer such as TCP/IP. It
implements the TLS 1.1 and SSL 3.0 protocols, accompanied with
authentication methods such as X.509, OpenPGP, and SRP.

Changes: X.509 RSA signing has been fixed to use NULL instead of absent
parameters, which solves failure in some external programs (e.g. GnuPG
2.x) when verifying GnuTLS-generated RSA X.509 certificates. The PKIX
ASN.1 syntax tree was regenerated to fix a mistake made in the last
release.

  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 03:24

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing

About: K3b is a CD and DVD burning application for Linux systems optimized
for KDE. It provides a comfortable user interface to perform most CD/DVD
burning tasks, such as creating an audio CD from a set of audio files or
copying a CD. While the experienced user can influence all steps of the
burning process, the beginner may find comfort in the automatic settings
and the reasonable defaults which allow a quick start. The actual burning
is done by the command line utilities cdrecord, cdrdao, and growisofs.

Changes: This release fixed a crash when using the Device menu without a
selected device, DVD copy when reading from a DVD+RW, the --without-alsa
configure check, a crash in Video DVD ripping when the title does not
contain an audio stream, multi-session import size handling, and Lame
quality preset handling. libk3bdevice is now really thread-safe, which
fixes a disabled DMA bug. The order of the buttons in the tool dialogs was
changed to match the KDE order. Handling was added for genisoimage's
-allow-limited-size parameter. Better compatibility with recent transcode
development versions was achieved.

  by Dean Brettle (http://freshmeat.net/users/brettle/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 23:26

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries

About: NeatUpload allows ASP.NET developers to stream uploaded files to
disk and allows users to monitor upload progress. It works under Mono's
XSP/mod_mono as well as Microsoft's ASP.NET implementation and features
two custom controls. InputFile allows the user to select a file to upload
and ProgressBar displays the upload progress either inline or in a popup.
ProgressBar even allows users without JavaScript to see upload progress.

Changes: This is a security fix release. It fixes a bug where a race
condition sometimes caused portions of responses to be sent to the wrong
user, potentially revealing sensitive information to unauthorized users.
The following versions are thought to be vulnerable: 1.2.11 through
1.2.16, 1.1.18 through 1.1.23, and trunk.379 through trunk.445.
NeatUpload-1.1.24 and the latest development snapshot contain the same

Internet
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
Office/Business

About: Net::DRI is a Perl library that offers a uniform API to access
services from domain name registries, registrars, and resellers. It is an
object-oriented framework that can be easily extended. It includes various
protocols (such as RRP, EPP, or custom protocols) and various transport
methods (such as TCP, TLS, SOAP, or SMTP). It currently handles .EU, .BE,
SE, .PL, .WS, .MOBI, .AERO, .CAT, .US, .COM/.NET, and .FR, with each
TLD's own extensions, as well as all generic RRP and EPP based registries
(hence all gTLDs registries). It can also be used for ENUM registrations.

Changes: This release adds full support for .LU as well as updated support
for .AT and .BIZ. It also adds two new protocols that can be used by
anyone, not only registrars: DAS is used by .BE and .EU to query only the
availability of a domain name, and Whois (RFC3912) with parsing is
provided for .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .INFO, .AERO, and .EU.

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: The compiler support for result variables, which are initialized
with expressions, was improved. The bas (basic interpreter) example
program was improved. The bigrat.s7i and rational.s7i libraries were
improved. Some multiplication test cases were added to the chkbig.sd7
example program. The compiler was changed to mark its temporary *.c files
with a temp_marker. Several performance improvements for uBigMultSub,

  by Objective Development (http://freshmeat.net/users/starkjohann/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 03:26

Communications :: File Sharing
System :: Filesystems

About: Sharity mounts shares exported by Windows, Samba, and other
SMB/CIFS servers in the file system of Unix computers. It implements
Resource Browsing, which is similar to the Windows Network Neighborhood
(Netbios Workgroups and Active Directory), NTLM, NTLMv2, and Kerberos
authentication, Microsoft's Distributed File System (DFS), and
manipulation of Access Control Lists (ACLs).

Changes: This release offers better support for user home directories on
SMB shares, improved handling of Distributed File System (DFS) redirects,
and more reliable auto-mounting of network resources.

[057] - Spey 0.4.1
  by David Given (http://freshmeat.net/users/dgtaocouk/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 10:33

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents

About: Spey is an SMTP proxy that sits between your existing mail server
and the outside world, blocking spam using a greylisting technique. It is
simple, lightweight, easy to install and configure, requires minimal
changes to your existing mail server, is completely independent of which
mail server you're using, and extremely effective. The author's spam
intake has dropped from over a hundred messages a day to about 5. It uses
the Sqlite database library as a backend.

Changes: This releases fixes a number of stability and security issues,
including one possible SQL injection problem. All users of 0.4.0 are
strongly advised to upgrade.

[058] - sshdfilter 1.5.4
  by Greg (http://freshmeat.net/users/grg/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 03:20

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: sshdfilter automatically blocks ssh brute force attacks by reading
sshd log output in real time and adding iptables rules based on
authentication failures. Block rules are created by logging on with an
invalid user name, or wrongly guessing the password for an existing
account. Block rules are removed after a week to maintain a small list of
blocks. It also comes with a LogWatch filter.

Changes: The configuration parser and the pattern matching engine were
rewritten to provide all the flexibility you could ever want. sshdfilter
can now read sshd messages from either sshd -eD (as with previous versions
of sshdfilter) or via a named pipe maintained by syslog. Hostname lookup
for messages was added for PAM-based systems that show hostnames and never
a source IP. ipfw support was added.

Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: This library provides I/O facilities for integer, floating-point,
Roman numbers, and strings. Both input and output subroutines support
string pointers for consequent stream processing. The output can be
aligned in a fixed size field with padding. Numeric input can be checked
against expected values range to be either saturated or to raise an
exception. For floating-point output either relative or absolute output
precision can be specified. UTF-8 encoded strings are supported.

Changes: The package Strings_Edit.Generic_Scale was added to support
plotting of graph axes.

[060] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 04 (RubySode)
  by Dennis J. Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 13:14

About: Sode.rb generates a Ruby program to use long Taylor series to solve
systems of ordinary differential equations. It generates code to solve the
equations in Ruby. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of the
location and order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control the
error. It has worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there are
so many possibilities.

Changes: A lot of debugging (especially with multiple equations), but
better tests are still needed (again, especially with multiple equations).

WYSIWYG word processor for the authoring of publication-ready articles
automatically formatted to chosen citation styles. The system includes
support for migrating to and from BibTeX and Endnote.

Changes: Some JavaScript warning messages in some of the templates and
during SUWP operation which were propagated only for IE were fixed. A bug
affecting the new caching system which, in some cases, caused a HTTPD 500
error on some Web servers was fixed.

[063] - x11vnc 0.9
  by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 10:35

Communications :: Conferencing
Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Monitoring

About: x11vnc is a program that allows one to remotely view and interact
with real X displays (i.e. a display corresponding to a physical
monitor, keyboard, and mouse) with any VNC viewer. It is similar to
WinVNC and is designed to be compatible with all Unix variants and
depend on a very small set of standard libraries. It supports a growing
number of command line options, such as -nofb for dual- headed mode with
Win2VNC. It is part of the LibVNCServer project.

Changes: VNC Service advertising via mDNS (also known as ZeroConf or
BonJour) is supported by the Avahi library. UltraVNC's TextChat,
SingleWindow, and ServerInput extensions are supported (requires the
UltraVNC or SSVNC viewer). Short aliases -find, -create, -svc, and -xdmsvc
for common usage modes are added (e.g. to find a user's X display or create
a new one with Xvfb). Reverse VNC connections (viewer listening) now work
in -ssl mode. XDAMAGE use is automatically disabled if it appears to not
be working properly (it often does not work with OpenGL applications like
Beryl and MythTV).

  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 00:00

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Xrefactory provides code completion, source browsing, and
refactoring functions for Emacs and XEmacs. It is based on full
pre-processing, parsing, and static analysis of sources and works with the
C, C++ (and Java 1.4) languages. It contains a stand-alone cross
referencer, and a generator for HTML documentation.

Changes: This release fixes problems with adding a parameter to a function
without parameters, problems with #if directive containing macros expanded
to a "defined" construction, problems with conversion to lvalue in Sun CC
compatibility mode, problems with absolute paths in #includes, and
problems with escaping from a symbol resolution dialog during refactoring.
A few other minor improvements were implemented in the displaying of
completions.

[067] - Zsh 4.3.4 (Development)
  by Peter Stephenson (http://freshmeat.net/users/PeterWStephenson/)
  Thu, Apr 19th 2007 08:06

Software Development :: Interpreters
System
Utilities

About: Zsh is a UNIX command interpreter (shell) which of the standard
shells most resembles the Korn shell (ksh). It includes enhancements of
many types, notably in the command-line editor, options for customising
its behaviour, filename globbing, features to make C-shell (csh) users
feel more at home and extra features drawn from tcsh.

Changes: This version contains most of the planned support for multibyte
characters. There are still some problems notably with Unicode combining
characters and composition of characters (notably on MacOS). If support is
available, the shell will be compiled with multibyte support and will start
in multibyte mode (with the option MULTIBYTE set). Apart from the usual
bugfixes and enhancements to completion functions, there are various other
new features.
