[001] - 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Character Generator 3.4
by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
Sun, Apr 22nd 2007 07:33
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the
eleven classes, any of the playable races, and may start at any level from
1 to 220. Generation requires some simple input, after which the character
is displayed on a basic character sheet. It allows you to select your
starting stats, add ability points, and pick skills, equipment, feats, and
spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.
Changes: When selecting feats, the user can hover the mouse over the feat
name to get a brief description of what the feat does. Users can now add
their own equipment to their character's inventory. Selecting a starting
class now causes all other class selections to be removed to make the
interface cleaner.

[002] - Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture 0.5.0 (Qosres)
by cucinotta (http://freshmeat.net/users/cucinotta/)
Sun, Apr 22nd 2007 17:32
Multimedia
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: AQuoSA is an open architecture for the provisioning of adaptive
Quality of Service functionality into the Linux kernel. The project
features a flexible, portable, and lightweight software architecture for
supporting QoS-related services on top of a general-purpose operating
system as Linux. The architecture is well founded on formal scheduling
analysis and control theoretical results. At the core of the software is
an adaptive Resource Reservation layer that is capable of dynamically
adapting the CPU allocation for QoS-aware applications based on their
run-time requirements.
Changes: The code has been completely refactored in order to be more
maintainable and allow easier development of additional features
(persistent servers, fast default server, soft reservations, etc.). The
task dispatching mechanism has been redesigned and uses a new kernel
patch. Instead of the fake task state that caused the scheduler to ignore
the task, now the task is removed from the run queue when the server
exhausts the budget.

[003] - Approximator Line 1.2.933.b
by Oleg Tsulun (http://freshmeat.net/users/otsulun/)
Sun, Apr 22nd 2007 22:54
About: Approximator Line is an application that allows you to synthesize
an approximation function of one argument. Both coordinates of known
points or mathematical expression can be used as input data. The
application uses an evolutionary algorithm that allows it to find more
optimal results. The enhanced evolutionary algorithm allows it to avoid
long-time hitting to local maximum. In a few hours, the application can
evaluate billions of combinations with use of a reasonable number of input
data points on a contemporary computer. Approximator Line uses
multithreading that can help to utilize maximum computation power.
Changes: Several bugs were fixed. A more sophisticated random number
generator is used. Design changes were made.

[011] - clichart 0.5.2
by John Dickson (http://freshmeat.net/users/captsens/)
Sun, Apr 22nd 2007 07:38
Multimedia :: Graphics
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: Clichart is intended for quick summarization and visualization of
data, especially from system logs. It provides tools to extract and
manipulate tabular summary data from text files, and to generate and view
simple charts from tabular data on the command line. Charts can be
displayed in a window and/or saved.
Changes: Minimal changes were made since 0.5.2-rc1, apart from fixing one
bug in which cliserverlib didn't work with Python 2.2. Changes since 0.5.1
include a CLI server mode, increasing efficiency when many charts are to be
generated. Input can come from a command file, script, or program. Some
extra options were added for controlling series titles. A new script
extracts aggregate data (such as min, max, or average) from tabular data
files. This is mostly used to summarize data from many files.

About: GNU nano (Nano's ANOther editor, or Not ANOther editor) is an
enhanced clone of the Pico text editor.
Changes: This release fixes problems (including a segfault) when trying to
open or save a file in a directory beginning with "~" that isn't a home
directory. A problem where an unnamed file could be saved over an existing
filename with no warning was fixed. Opening directories or device files is
properly disallowed from "include" commands in nanorc files. A misleading
prompt is no longer displayed when trying to save in restricted mode with
the mark on. More keys are properly supported. This release also improves
several color syntaxes to highlight trailing whitespace, and adds yet more
minor documentation updates.

About: The Java Application Monitor (JAMon) is a free, simple, high
performance, thread safe, Java API that allows developers to easily
monitor production applications. JAMon can be used to determine
application performance bottlenecks, user/application interactions, and
application scalability. JAMon gathers summary statistics such as hits,
execution times (total, average, minimum, maximum, standard deviation),
and simultaneous application requests. JAMon statistics are displayed in
the sortable JAMon report.
Changes: This release adds the ability for developers to add listeners so
that code can react to events of interest. It ships with the
JAMonBufferListener, which can be used to track details such as when a new
max occurs, when an event is 3 standard deviations from the median, etc.

About: JVanish is a minimalistic 3D engine that implements a vanishing
point projection (Fluchtpunktprojektion) based solely on standard Web
technologies: JavaScript, XHTML, CSS, and SOAP. The project's goal is to
find a generic and useful XHTML-based 3D widget set, while staying mostly
lightweight in an AJAX Web environment.
Changes: This release introduces new major features and concepts. The
virtual space now has an "in-sight region" and an "outer region". Only
objects in sight are rendered. The 3D-viewport can be translated (moved,
rotated, scaled) to view a scene from any perpective at any zoom level.
The online demo shows a sensor data tracker for geo-tagged objects (like
an air traffic control monitor). The sensor data can be read from a RSS

Sun, Apr 22nd 2007 22:59
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
About: Rasqal is a C library for querying RDF, supporting the RDQL and
SPARQL languages. It provides APIs for creating a query and parsing query
syntax. It features pluggable triple-store source and matching interfaces,

by Ashwin Jayaprakash (http://freshmeat.net/users/AshwinJ/)
Sun, Apr 22nd 2007 11:49
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Monitoring
About: StreamCruncher is an event processor. It supports a language based
on SQL that allows you to define "event processing" constructs like
sliding windows, time-based windows, partitions, and aggregates. Such
constructs allow for the specification of boundaries (some are time
sensitive) on a stream of events that SQL does not provide. Queries can be
written using this language, which in turn can be used to monitor streams
of incoming events. It also provides a feature similar to materialized
views. Joins and sub-queries are also supported to allow event
co-relation. A database is used underneath to do the heavy lifting.
Pattern matching or multi-stream correlation are also possible.
Changes: This version includes support for the Oracle 10g database.

[064] - The Epeios XML preprocessor 0.2.0 (2007-04-22)
by Claude SIMON (http://freshmeat.net/users/csimon/)
Sun, Apr 22nd 2007 20:37
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
Utilities
About: The "expp" tool (the Epeios XML preprocessor) reads an XML file to
transform it to another XML file. It simplifies the writing of XML files
by allowing the handling of macros, the definition and testing of
variables, the inclusion of files, and more. This is done by writing,
directly in the source XML file, predefined tags owned by a given
namespace, tags which are then recognized and handled by the "expp" tool.
Changes: When an error occurs, a short explanation message is now printed.
Local macros can now be defined; scope is limited to the 'expand' tag in
which they are defined.This release contains some minor bugfixes.
