Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
About: AlphaMail is a mod_perl webmail system with a C++ middleware
component that is intended to make the system highly scalable. It supports
many Unix variants with any RFC-compliant IMAP server (including UW, Cyrus,
and Dovecot).
Changes: This release fixes a bug in mail headers when user has failed to
set their name.

[002] - amavisd-new 2.5.0
by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
Mon, Apr 23rd 2007 11:23
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssassin Perl module. It talks to an MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.
Changes: Allows per-recipient sanitation or adding disclaimers by
altermime or Anomy Sanitizer. Rewritten SMTP client code no longer uses
module libnet, and now supports pipelining, IPv6, and an LMTP protocol.
Phishing fraud as indicated by ClamAV is now treated as spam, not as a a
virus. Hooks for custom code are provided. The pen pals feature now also
matches replies referencing previous outgoing mail by its Message ID, such
as replies to mailing list postings. A new concept has been introduced: a
blocking contents category. Documentation for setting up amavisd-new
Postfix has been rewritten.

[003] - Aranea framework 1.0.8
by Taimo (http://freshmeat.net/users/taimo/)
Mon, Apr 23rd 2007 04:07
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.
Changes: The one-line change in 1.0.7 that often caused NPE on form lists
initialization was reverted.

About: Illustrated is a program for running a Web picture gallery. While
its purpose is to share pictures, it focuses on picture description.

Changes: The most important changes are the two sample stylesheets
included, cache control, text formatting, and tags. Administration is also
being improved step by step, but it is not finished yet (e.g. automatic

[031] - MUTE File Sharing 0.5.1
by Jason Rohrer (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcr13/)
Mon, Apr 23rd 2007 11:02
Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
About: MUTE File Sharing is an anonymous, decentralized
search-and-download file sharing system. Several people have described
MUTE as the "third generation file sharing network" (From Napster to
Gnutella to MUTE, with each generation getting less centralized and more
anonymous). MUTE uses algorithms inspired by ant behavior to route all
messages, include file transfers, through a mesh network of neighbor
connections.
Changes: This release fixes bugs in MUTE's initial connection to the
network upon startup. MUTE has also been upgraded to Crypto++ 5.4, so it
should now compile using GCC 4.1.

by Alex Kirhenshtein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rauxer/)
Mon, Apr 23rd 2007 10:58
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: NetXMS is a monitoring system with a modular architecture. It can
be used for monitoring an entire IT infrastructure, starting with
SNMP-capable hardware (like switches and routers) and ending with
applications on servers. The system has a three-tier architecture; the
information is collected by monitoring agents (either its own agents or
SNMP agents) and delivered to the monitoring server for processing and
storing, where it can be accessed by using the management console. It
features centralized configuration and centralized agent upgrades.
Changes: Possible stability issues have been fixed. Cluster monitoring has
improved. Management packs are fully implemented (templates, events, and
SNMP traps can be exported and imported). A native driver for Oracle has
been implemented (ODBC is not required anymore). Microdowell support in
the UPS subagent has been improved. Multiple changes in the Windows
console (layer 2 topology view, improved graphs, and object search has
been changed). Certificate-based authentication has been implemented
(works with smart cards, USB tokens, etc.). Multiple minor issues have
been fixed.

[033] - Nixstaller 0.2.1
by Rick (http://freshmeat.net/users/rickhelmus/)
Mon, Apr 23rd 2007 20:50
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Software Distribution
About: With 'nixstaller' you can easily make installers for Unix-like
systems. Some of the project goals: support for many different platforms,
support for different (optional) frontends used by the installer
(currently FLTK, ncurses, GTK 2, and Qt are planned), ease of use for the
install creator and the end user, different ways of installing (extract
files to a location, compile software on the user's system, and maybe even
integration for the package manager running on the user's system).
Nixstaller can be fully translated and is programmed in C++ and sh.
Changes: This releases fixes a few small bugs, including problems where
the Welcome and License screen would not show up if only one language was
available, the program would try to default to English if only one
language was available, even if this wasn't English, and the startup
script wouldn't detect libstdc++ on Gentoo. The startup script now
defaults to Linux and x86 if no front-ends are found for the current OS
and CPU architecture.
