System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional network configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides built-in support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable devices, full iproute2 command set,
interface dependencies resolution, QoS, and firewall configuration
frameworks. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv4/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, Pent@VALUE,
SkyStar-2, TUN/TAP, OpenVPN TUN/TAP, usbnet, and PPP. Due to its modular
structure, support for new interface types can be added without overall
design changes.

Changes: This release features mostly new features (ip6tables, ebtables,
OpenVPN, and tun/tap) and some bugfixes (IP rules, wireless, firewall, and
DVB).

[007] - astGUIclient 2.0.3
  by eflonet (http://freshmeat.net/users/eflonet/)
  Fri, Apr 27th 2007 10:26

Communications :: Telephony

About: astGUIclient is part of a suite of programs that are designed to
interact with the Asterisk PBX Phone system at a client computer level to
extend the functionality of your phone and system. The main GUI
application, astGUIclient, is a set of PHP Web-based scripts utilizing
Javascript and XMLHTTPRequest functions that work through a browser to
give realtime information and functionality with nothing more than an
Internet browser on the client computer. Another component included with
the astGUIclient package is the VICIDIAL auto-dialer, a list dialer which
can dial one-call-at-a-time or be put in auto-dial mode to act as a
predictive dialer. It can function as an ACD for inbound calls or for
Closer calls coming from VICIDIAL fronters, and allows for remote agents
that may only have a phone.

Changes: The ability to dial alternate lead phone numbers in auto-dial
modes has been added. More levels of access control have been added to the
administrative interfaces. Agent Pause codes have been added to allow
agents to categorize their PAUSE time. VICIDIAL outbound compatibility
with QueueMetrics has been added. There are many other changes and
bugfixes.

  by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
  Fri, Apr 27th 2007 16:22

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Blitz templates is a fast template engine written in C and compiled
as a PHP module. It started as a php_templates replacement, but developed
into much more. It is based on extensible template controllers (custom
view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates (simple logic in HTML).
Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest template engines for PHP,
even though it's not trivial and makes Web application closer to the MVC2
architecture model. It was designed for big Internet projects with a lot
of complex presentation logic.

Changes: The documentation was updated. There is a minor php_templates
compatibility fix: function calls without brackets are treated as
variables with the same name by default.

  Fri, Apr 27th 2007 08:39

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
Utilities

About: LCDproc is a utility to drive one or more LCD (and LCD-like)
devices attached to a host. It is comprised of a server, which uses a
modular device driver system to control attached displays, and one or more
clients to gather data as appropriate and send screen data to the server.
The included client displays a multitude of system statistics
(CPU/memory/disk usage, uptime, date and time, temperature, etc.).
Multiple clients can connect to the server simultaneously, and clients can
set priorities on the screens they provide to influence in what order items
are displayed. This facility can also be used to "pop" critical screens
(such as an entry from syslog from a log-watching client). All
functionality is implemented in userland. Support for many display devices
and several platforms (Linux, *BSD, and Solaris at least) is included.

Changes: This release adds the new drivers serialPOS (for text-based
serial Point of Sale displays), ea65 (for VFD in AOpen XC Cube AV EA65
barebones), picolcd (for Mini-box.com USB LCD picoLCD), hd44780/pertelian

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a small set of passive network monitoring tools to
measure, account, classify, aggregate, and export IPv4 and IPv6 traffic. A
pluggable and flexible architecture allows collected network data to be
stored into memory tables or SQL (MySQL, SQLite, PostgreSQL) databases and
exported through NetFlow or sFlow protocols to remote collectors. pmacct
supports fully customizable historical data breakdown, flow sampling,
filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers. Libpcap, sFlow
v2/v4/v5 and NetFlow v1/v5/v7/v8/v9 are supported.

Changes: Support for TCP flags has been introduced. Flags are ORed on a
per-aggregate basis. A new nfacctd_sql_log directive enables the use of
NetFlow's First and Last Switched values as timeslot delimiters. sfprobe
and nfprobe plugins are now able to propagate tags to remote collectors
through sFlow v5 and NetFlow v9 protocols. pmacct memory client features a
new '-T' command line switch to output either TopN statistics. The
'pre_tag_map_entries' configuration directive now allows you to
dynamically allocate the Pre-Tagging map. There are miscellaneous
bugfixes.

Software Development :: Testing :: Traffic Generation

About: Sipp is a performance testing tool for the SIP protocol. It
includes a few basic SipStone user agent scenarios (UAC & UAS) and
establishes and releases multiple calls with the INVITE and BYE methods.
It also reads XML scenario files describing any performance testing
configuration. It features the dynamic display of statistics about running
tests, periodic CSV statistics dumps, TCP, UDP, or TLS over IPv4 or IPv6
over multiple sockets or multiplexed with retransmission management,
regular expressions and variables in scenario files, conditional
branching, and dynamically-adjustable call rates. RTP play (voice, video,
and RFC2833 DTMFs) is also supported.

Changes: This release adds statistical conditional branching, a 3PCC
extended mode, a tool to monitor remote SIP servers through SNMP, a global
commandline option to specify that packets should be lost at a given
percentage, and many small enhancements, including major performance
improvements. clock_tick is updated more frequently now, for higher timer
and statistics resolution (in microseconds).

[036] - STX B+ Tree 0.7
  by Timo Bingmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/tbingmann/)
  Fri, Apr 27th 2007 09:00

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The STX B+ Tree package is a set of C++ template classes
implementing a B+ tree key/data container in main memory. The classes are
designed as drop-in replacements of the STL containers set, map, multiset,
and multimap, and follow their interfaces very closely. By packing multiple
value pairs into each node of the tree, the B+ tree reduces heap
fragmentation and utilizes cache-line effects better than the standard
red-black binary tree. The tree algorithms are based on the implementation
in Cormen, Leiserson, and Rivest's Introduction into Algorithms, Jan
Jannink's paper, and other algorithm resources. The classes contain
extensive assertion and verification mechanisms to ensure the
implementation's correctness by testing the tree invariants.

About: Userful Desktop Multiplier is a virtualized X server that turns one
computer into ten "workstations" by using extra video cards, keyboards, and
monitors. This approach offers significantly higher performance and lower
hardware costs than Thin Client or LTSP. It installs on most popular Linux
distributions (Red Hat, Novell/SuSE, Fedora, Mandriva, Xandros, Linspire,
Ubuntu, etc.). It supports USB touch screens (Elotouch, Microtouch),
card-swipes, barcode scanners, as well as all virtually all video cards
supported by X. It features easy setup and graphical configuration.

Changes: The graphic drivers have been updated to support more graphics
cards. More Linux distributions are supported: Ubuntu 7.04, Kubuntu 6.10
and 7.04, Mepis 6.05, and Pioneer Linux.

  Fri, Apr 27th 2007 13:23

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Wiki
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: wiki2xhtml can create complete Web pages and uses a clean XHTML
syntax. It can insert galleries, a menu, a footer, and nearly all elements
you know from the Wikipedia. The pages are formatted with CSS. All designs
can be adjusted by hand, and custom ones can be used as well. wiki2xhtml
generates the HTML pages from simple text files in the MediaWiki syntax.
You can also use own (X)HTML code or other script languages inside; there
are no restrictions. The GUI is composed of a Code Paste Window where you
can insert wiki code that will be generated live. A click into the result,
the XHTML code, copies it into the clipboard.

Changes: The last line is no longer truncated from input text, and a
NullPointerException in the GUI has been fixed. {{Language:...}} now works
(not just {{Lang:...}}), and the meta-tag 'name="robots" content="all"' is
(now automatically, later depending on the user's choice) added to the
generated XHTML files.
