[001] - auto-nng 1.1
  by Jan Behrens (http://freshmeat.net/users/jbehrens/)
  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 22:10

Scientific/Engineering

About: auto-nng is a program for analysis and classification of data,
using artificial neuronal networks. You can feed a number of datasets
consisting of certain input and output parameters into the program to make
it try to find a mathematical correlation between the input and output
parameters. Afterwards, the program tries to calculate the output
parameters for datasets which only have known input parameters.

Changes: A bug which caused a segmentation fault at program termination
under GNU/Linux was fixed.

[002] - barvinok 0.23
  by Sven Verdoolaege (http://freshmeat.net/users/skimo/)
  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 13:27

About: barvinok is a library for counting the number of integer points in
parametric and non-parametric polytopes based on polylib. For a parametric
polytope, the number of points is represented by either a piecewise
quasi-polynomial or an Ehrhart series.

Changes: This release adds support for approximating quasi-polynomials by
polynomials, computing bounds of quasi-polynomials, and both a primal and
a stopped Barvinok decomposition for non-parametric problems.

  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 12:53

Utilities

About: chnames.sh is able to rename large numbers of files and directories
by automatically performing substitutions according to predefined rules.
The result is clean ASCII names containing only A-Z, a-z, 0-9, ., ~, _,
and -. chnames.sh can also generate an undo script, create log files, or
just do check runs. It works on single files and directories as well as
recursively. A UTF-8 shell is required. On www.supple-pixels.net there is
also an archive containing weird but possible file names for testing
purposes.

  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 12:19

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Cibyl is a programming environment that allows compiled C programs
to execute on J2ME-capable phones. Cibyl uses GCC to compile the C
programs to MIPS binaries, and these are then recompiled into Java
bytecode. The programs are not parsed during runtime, and Cibyl is
therefore relatively well-performing. With Cibyl, games written in C can
be ported to J2ME without switching language.

Changes: Many new features and bugfixes were added. Floating point support
is now fully implemented. J2ME events are now supported. A peephole
optimizer is implemented. Various new libraries have been added.

  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 01:00

Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: ColorExplorer is a tool for exploring the color space and finding
out how colors, color names, and numerical color specifications are
related. The user can specify a color by selecting its name from a list of
color names, by adjusting sliders that control the mixture of red, green,
and blue, by entering a numerical color specification, by copying it from
the history list or elsewhere on the display, or by requesting a random
color. The numerical specification of the current color and an example of
that color are shown in a pair of adjacent boxes. The color name list may
be searched by entering a regular expression or by requesting the closest
match to the current color.

Changes: The main window and the history list may now be kept raised above
other windows if so desired.

[029] - Pinot 0.72
  by Fabrice Colin (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinf/)
  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 01:03

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Pinot is a D-Bus service that crawls, indexes your documents, and
monitors them for changes. It is also a GTK-based user interface that
enables you to query the index built by the service or your favorite Web
engine, and display and analyze the results. It makes full use of advanced
indexing and search facilities offered by Xapian, features language
detection, dynamic document summaries, easy labelling of documents, and
internal support for common file types. The D-Bus interface allows easy
integration with other applications.

Changes: Result lists can now be saved as CSV or OpenSearch response
XML/RSS. The filter "dir:/" can be applied. A problem where too much time
spent upgrading could cause the daemon to be killed was fixed. All
documents on HTTP/HTTPS are now opened with the default Web browser. The
German and Italian translations were updated.

[034] - SafeKeep 0.9.3
  by Dimi Paun (http://freshmeat.net/users/dimipaun/)
  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 22:23

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: SafeKeep is a centralized and easy to use backup application that
combines the best features of a mirror and an incremental backup. It
enhances the power of rdiff-backup with simple, centralized configuration,
while adding support for LVM snapshots, database dumps, and convenient SSH
key management.

Changes: The safekeep account now uses /bin/bash instead of /sbin/nologin
to make it possbile to deploy and manage the SSH keys needed for the
backup process. rdiff-backup is invoked with the "--force" option when
trimming old data, since there are cases where there can be multiple
deltas outstanding. A number of logging bugs have been fixed, so now the
logs should look a bit better. Some documentation improvements were made.

[035] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 07 (RubySode)
  by Dennis J. Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 12:32

About: Sode.rb generates a Ruby program to use long Taylor series to solve
systems of ordinary differential equations. It generates code to solve the
equations in Ruby. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of the
location and order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control the
error. It has worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there are
so many possibilities.

Changes: Great improvements were made to the RubyApfp logarithm functions.
norm and sqrt were also improved.

[036] - textbender 0.1.14
  by Michael Allan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mcallan/)
  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 01:05

Artistic Software
Communications
Text Processing

About: Textbender is a system of collaborative writing based on
recombinant text. It implements a Web-based medium of reactive,
distributed composition with an underpinning in population genetics. In
use, it replicates a text into a population of variants, one per author;
authors swap fragments and arrangements of the text, peer to peer; and
genes encode a traceable record of authorship throughout. Current releases
of textbender are aimed at creative works, particularly at short verse.

Changes: The genetic encoder was improved. It now detects duplicate genes
that arise from manual editing, and corrects them. The user applet was
moved to the top edge of the browser window, where it now functions as a
floating toolbar.

[037] - Timer Applet 2.0.1
  by Jimmy Do (http://freshmeat.net/users/jimmydo/)
  Sat, Apr 28th 2007 01:05

Desktop Environment :: Gnome

About: Timer Applet is a countdown timer applet for the GNOME panel. You
can quickly set a timer and be notified when it finishes. The applet uses
a subtle animation and libnotify for notifications, so it lets you
continue working while keeping you aware that the timer has finished. You
can also add multiple Timer Applets to the panel to have different timers
running simultaneously. Timer Applet is small, unobtrusive, and follows
the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines.

Changes: Timer Applet now features a countdown animation with a "pie"
meter, one-click selection of timer presets, streamlined saving of new
presets, and periodic redisplay of the notification bubble for a finished
timer until the user stops it. A new GConf key lets users enable
notification beeps on a computer's internal speaker, and a D-Bus API
allows third-party scripts and applications to manipulate Timer Applets.
The applet has been completely rewritten in Python.
