[010] - check_logfiles 2.2.4
by lausser (http://freshmeat.net/users/lausser/)
Wed, Jun 6th 2007 05:40
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: check_logfiles is a plugin for Nagios which checks logfiles for
defined patterns. It is capable of detecting logfile rotation. If you tell
it how the rotated archives look, it will also examine these files. Unlike
check_logfiles, traditional logfile plugins were not aware of the gap
which could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored what had
happened between their checks. A configuration file is used to specify
where to search, what to search, and what to do if a matching line is
found.
Changes: "Virtual" files like those in the Linux /proc and /sys
filesystems are supported. With this feature, simple hardware monitoring
can easily be set up. Some smaller bugs were fixed.

Wed, Jun 6th 2007 05:24
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
About: Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec
Ghost. It saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the
file system is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used
instead. It has been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10
minutes.
Changes: Partition to partition, a disk-to-disk clone without image
creation was added. An ISO with a restoring image built-in can be created
in Clonezilla live instead of Clonezilla server. An unattended mode for
restoring an image was added. An option to not start a network connection
was added in the boot menu. A bug involving a failure to save partition
numbers more than 10 was fixed. Some minor bugs were also fixed.

[014] - Cook 2.28
by Peter Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/pmiller/)
Wed, Jun 6th 2007 05:48
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: Cook is a tool for constructing files. It is given a set of files
to create, and recipes of how to create them. In any non-trivial program
there will be prerequisites to performing the actions necessary to
creating any file, such as include files. Cook provides a mechanism to
define these. When a program is being developed or maintained, the
programmer will typically change one file of several which comprise the
program. Cook examines the last-modified times of the files to see when
the prerequisites of a file have changed, implying that the file needs to
be recreated as it is logically out of date.
Changes: Build problems have been fixed. The [print] function now handles
newlines better.

[015] - Ctcompare 2.2
by Warren Toomey (http://freshmeat.net/users/DoctorWkt/)
Wed, Jun 6th 2007 22:29
Software Development
About: Ctcompare allows you to compare several sets of C code trees on a
token basis, rather than on a line by line basis. These programs help to
identify code copying and similarities between snippets of code in both
trees.
Changes: The comparison method has been completely rewritten. A database
is now used to hold 16-token "tuples" as keys; the result attached to each
key is the list of source files which have that tuple. Tuples with multiple
files from different source trees indicate potential code similarity. These
are then fully tested to find actual code similarity.

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration
About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you to
explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc queries.
It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, Solid, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL
Server. In addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas,
tables, indexes, views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored
procedures, you can view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the
results of queries. You can also graphically view foreign key
relationships.
Changes: A table data comparison and synchronization tool was added.
Support for many-to-many relationships and the Oracle XMLType data type
were added in the J2EE code generator.

[017] - Diogene87 1.0.0rc2
by Zionly (http://freshmeat.net/users/zionly/)
Wed, Jun 6th 2007 00:20
System :: Systems Administration
About: Diogene87 is a powerful job scheduling system. It features
centralized management, jobs dependencies, start conditions, planning, a
log of job activity, job monitoring, statistics for job durations, and
resource control.
Changes: A bug was fixed in which the first day of the week was Sunday
(and not Monday). An important bug in memory initialization was fixed. AIX
and Cygwin support were added for autotest scripts. The value "NONE" for
"LOG_LEVEL" in dio87d.conf prevents the sending of messages to syslog. By
default, "make install" configures the "dio87d" daemon to run in the
account of the user who ran the configure script. This can be changed by
setting the "DIO87D_ACCOUNT" variable when running the configure script.

Wed, Jun 6th 2007 04:54
About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to

Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: php-stl is a templating implementation similar to Java's JSTL. This
is a tag-based template engine with configurable classes to handle various
tags. The templates are written in XML, which differs from the JSTL, but
provides clean output. Note that php-stl does not provide its own template
handling, but instead piggybacks on either PHPSavant (http://phpsavant.com)
or Smarty (http://smarty.php.net/) as a compiler. Note also that php-stl is
designed for PHP 5, though a PHP 4 implementation wouldn't be difficult.

System :: Emulators
About: plus4emu is a portable emulator of the Commodore Plus/4 computer.
It supports Windows and POSIX platforms (32 bit Windows, 32 and 64 bit
Linux, and Mac OS X have been tested). It implements accurate, high
quality hardware emulation, but the system requirements are higher than
that of most other emulators.
Changes: This release adds new 1541 timing code that fixes some programs
that previously did not load, at the expense of higher CPU usage; it can
be turned on/off in the floppy configuration dialog. More accurate
emulation of television vertical synchronization. Mac OS X build fixes. A
patch for FLTK 1.1.7 that fixes the check callback on OS X. Improvements
and fixes in TED video shift register emulation. A fix for the CPU I/O
port data direction register ($0000). The ROM package now includes the
1541 DOS as default, rather than the 1541-II; however, the latter is still
available as dos15412.rom.

Security
About: Remo is a graphical rule editor for ModSecurity, an Apache security
module. ModSecurity is quite difficult to configure successfully.
Modsecurity.org advertises a tested core ruleset granting you protection
from most known attacks, but this is only blocks traffic known to be
dangerous, when it is more effective to block everything not known to be
safe. Remo is meant to assist in the difficult task of writing the rules
that would correctly describe the requests that are valid for an
application.
Changes: This first beta release brings the ability to import ModSecurity
audit-logs and match them against the ruleset in the edit-area of Remo.
This lets you check if the ruleset which you are developing will work with
your online application in practice.

About: Stunnix Advanced Web Server is a Web server for putting Web sites
onto CD-ROMs, DVDs, FlashDisks, and other readonly media to be used on any
typical system. Sites can be scripted with PHP, Python, Java, or Perl and
can be driven by MySQL or SQLite databases. All required software programs
are designed to reside on the CD-ROM to avoid the need to install software
on the user's computer. The Web serving core is based on Apache 1.3.x, and
has additional functionality to detect and use free ports and automatically
start a browser on each platform. Desktop applications can also be created
with it.
Changes: This release implements support for showing the tray icon on
Windows. Users can control the Web site by clicking on that tray icon;
developers can easily add new menu items to the menu. There is greatly
improved splash screen support on Windows: now the image is redrawn once
obscured by other windows, and can be dragged. Several other small fixes

Wed, Jun 6th 2007 10:37
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: The Mana World (TMW) is a serious effort to create an innovative
free and open source MMORPG. It uses 2D graphics and aims to create a
large and diverse interactive world. The game aims to be a unique place
for people to interact not only by fighting each other but to play life,
form a community within the community, or just simply chat. Although the
game is never-ending and a linear story cannot be applied, it should have
enough background to describe and predefine tribes, kingdoms, and the
environment overall. Fullfilled quests should lead to certain events
depending on them being solved. Quests should also encourage teamwork.
Changes: The biggest visible change in this release is the addition of a
particle engine. Based on this, numerous particle effects were added, for
example when hitting enemies or to animate a waterfall and torches. Other
small enhancements were made like the addition of a targeting cursor, a
Unix man page, and a --version parameter. Finally, fixes have been made to
the login process, character creation, and window resizing.

About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A rich widget set is supported that includes tree views,
tabbed panes, split panels, and much more. A unified widget-based,
object-oriented programming interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to
the developer to control and assemble the GUI. Web applications are fully
AJAX enabled. For Swing client/server applications, the framework handles
client/server communication, including compression and security layers. A
GUI builder is included.
Changes: Plugins can be internationalized separately and context menus on
Swing table headers work. New Factory classes for all GUI components for
easier use of the WidgetServer Java API have been implemented. A new set
of interfaces has been added to connect the WidgetServer GUI API with the
kernel API to prevent type casts and a setSelectionInterval method for
text input components has been implemented.

Information Management :: Document Repositories
About: Wikidbase is a powerful and highly flexible combination of two
structural extremes of data management systems: a wiki and a database. As
such, it has all of the flexibility of a wiki (e.g. any kind of
unstructured data can be stored) and the structural data capabilities of a
database (e.g. data may be modelled similarly to database fields, tables,
and relations, such that structural reports can me made of that data). The
functionality is combined in such a way that this general-purpose data
management system may be shaped easily, without the need of a database
expert, into a custom data management application such as a contact
relation management (CRM) system, a knowledge base, a shared calendar
system, a project management system, etc.
Changes: It is now possible to view wikidpages in a calendar. Though basic
at the moment, the goal is to create Google Calendar-like functionality,
allowing wikidbase to become a generic shared calendar system in addition
to being a knowledge base and database.
