Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Multimedia :: Video

About: Advene (Annotate Digital Video, Exchange on the NEt) is aimed at
providing a model and a format to share annotations about digital video
documents (movies, courses, conferences, etc.), as well as tools to edit
and visualize the hypervideos generated from both the annotations and the
audiovisual documents. Teachers, moviegoers, etc. can use them to exchange
multimedia comments and analyses about video documents. The project also
aims at studying the way that communities of users (teachers, moviegoers,
students, etc.) will use these self-publishing tools to share their
audiovisual "readings", and to envision new editing and viewing interfaces
for interactive comment and analysis of audiovisual content.

Changes: This release features a new customizable GUI layout, quick search
functionality, usability enhancements in the timeline view, and a number of
improvements and bugfixes.

[008] - Command Line Progress Bar 1.10.8
  by peek (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelpeek/)
  Thu, Jun 7th 2007 06:58

Utilities

About: Command Line Progress Bar is a simple command line tool to display
information about a data transfer stream. It will display the number of
bytes transfered, the speed of the transfer, and if the size of the data
stream is known it will display the ETA, percent complete, and a progress
bar.

Changes: The -c/--continue option allows the user to specify that this is
a continuation of a previous transfer, and allows the user to specify how
many bytes of the total size have already been transfered. The bar can now
operate similarly to the cp command, in that if no -if/--in-file or
-of/--out-file command line options are found, then the first unrecognized
command line option is taken to be the input file, and the second is taken
to be an output file or destination directory.

[017] - Hotwire 0.556
  by Colin Walters (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinwalters/)
  Thu, Jun 7th 2007 04:10

Software Development

About: Hotwire is intended to replace the interactive command execution
portion of a typical Unix shell. It includes much of the functionality
found in the combination of a terminal emulator, a shell, and core
utilities like ls and grep. Most of the commands are named the same, and
do basically the same thing. Where it makes sense, Hotwire improves the
commands to have better defaults and makes things nicer by using the
mouse, and so on. For example, rm moves files to ~/.Trash on Unix and
Recycle Bin on Windows, cd automatically lists the contents of the
directory you change to, ls links are clickable (view file or cd to
directory), filter (analogous to Unix grep) shows matching text in bold,
and the ps process list has right-click menu for killing.

Changes: This version keeps track of "hot" working directories and offers
them as completions when using 'cd'. Completions now have icons, which is
useful for distinguishing real files from history completions. A new
'fsearch' built-in is like fgrep -R, but cooler. A new 'prop' built-in was
added for accessing object properties. The completion window should now
flash a lot less during completion.

parsing and code analysis routines. JOLIE projects are now based upon
libJOLIE (including the interpreter itself). The parsing and semantics
validation engines were reimplemented. Shared and unshared memory session
handling through correlation sets was implemented. Internal and network

[021] - libnetdude 0.10
  by Christian Kreibich (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpk/)
  Thu, Jun 7th 2007 03:05

System :: Networking

About: libnetdude is the packet manipulation backend of the Netdude trace
file editing framework. It allows you to perform trace file manipulations
at a much higher level of abstraction than code written directly for the
pcap interface. It also supports plugins (dynamically loaded libraries)
that can essentially do whatever the programmer desires. When developers
write their packet manipulation code as libnetdude plugins, this instantly
allows other developers to use their tools. It provides data types and APIs
for the most common situations when dealing with libpcap trace files: trace
files of arbitrary size, packets, network protocols, packet iterators, and
packet filters, just to name a few.

Changes: Resizing of packets is now supported intelligently (i.e.,
relevant packet header updates are performed automatically). A number of
convenience functions were added. Bugs in libnd_packet_fix() as well as
the ChecksumFix plugin were fixed. The run() hook in feature plugins now
returns an error code, which lndtool properly passes through to the
command line.

  Thu, Jun 7th 2007 03:05

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Networking

About: libpcapnav is a libpcap wrapper library that allows navigation to
arbitrary locations in a tcpdump trace file between reads. The API is
intentionally much like that of the pcap library. You can navigate in
trace files both in time and space. You can jump to a packet which is at
approximately 2/3 of the trace, or you can jump as closely as possible to
a packet with a given timestamp, and then read packets from there. In
addition, the API provides convenience functions for manipulating timeval
structures.

support on OS X.

[027] - Netdude 0.4.8 (Stable)
  by Christian Kreibich (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpk/)
  Thu, Jun 7th 2007 03:05

System :: Networking

About: Netdude (the NETwork DUmp data Displayer and Editor) is a framework
for inspection and manipulation of tcpdump tracefiles. It is separated into
a GUI-based frontend and a backend library that performs the actual packet
manipulation. Both the front- and backend can be extended using plugins,
in order to add support for new protocols and to provide modular code to
other developers.

Changes: This release included several important new features and
bugfixes. pcap-level information can be edited, including timestamps, wire
size, and caplen of packets. The protocol a user last chose explicitly is
now remembered correctly when switching to another packet. Rendering of
nested, identical protocols now works correctly (for example, the IP
header contained in an ICMP message was not shown). Large file support was
added. A problem where editing the TCP ACK number caused the sequence
number to be changed instead was fixed. A segfault in the cut and paste
code was fixed.

About: octopus is a program aimed at the ab initio virtual experimentation
on a hopefully ever increasing range of systems types. Electrons are
describe quantum-mechanically within the Density-Functional Theory (DFT),
in its time-dependent form (TDDFT) when doing simulations in time. Nuclei
are described classically as point particles. Electron-nucleus interaction
is described within the Pseudopotential approximation.

Changes: The complex executable is gone, and all the work is done by the
normal (a.k.a. real) executable. The type of the wavefunctions is selected
automatically according to the input file. Dynamical polarizabities are
calculated using linear response theory. Basic support for full potential
all electron species. The texinfo documentation has been obsoleted and
replaced by an online wiki based documentation.

  Thu, Jun 7th 2007 03:40

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: An explanation of multiple dispatch was added to the FAQ. A bug
in the 'str' function for 'complex' was fixed. The interpreter was
improved to support startsWith, endsWith, array_min_position, heapstat,
and @:= (for ref_lists). The compiler suport for drw_cpy, ref_trace,
arr_head, arr_tail, arr_idx, varfunc, wintype, array literals, and dynamic
functions (for enumerations) was improved. The compiler now writes a
message when an uncaught exception was raised. The compiler was changed
such that destr functions also accept a NULL. The compiler now compiles
snake.sd7 and toutf8.sd7.
