[006] - Avast-ng 1.0.2
  by Krux (http://freshmeat.net/users/krux/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 01:34

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: Avast-ng gives you the ability to sift through vast amounts of log
files and display current syslog data which is useful to you. It sifts out
all the normal flotsam in your log files, and just displays messages which
you have defined to be either out of the ordinary or unexpected. With its
built in query builder, you can build new filters to include or exclude
log messages quickly. It uses a nifty, intuitive AJAX interface. You can
save multiple filters for quick access. Avast-ng continuously monitors
your syslog messages, showing the most current messages matching your
filter.

Changes: User input was sanitized to prevent possible MySQL injections.
Additional checks on user input and error handling were added.

[008] - BlockHosts 2.0.4
  by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 01:29

System :: Networking

About: BlockHosts is a script to record how many times a local system is
attacked, based on configurable scanning of system logs for sshd or other
services. When a particular IP address exceeds a configured number of
failed login attempts, that IP address is blocked using hosts.allow files,
or by using null-routing, or by using packet filtering. An email
notification facility is also available.

Changes: The regular expressions were updated to protect against possible
log injection attacks that force blockhosts to block any arbitrary IP
address.

[012] - cats2procmailrc 2.0
  by Cameron Simpson (http://freshmeat.net/users/cameron/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 01:29

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters
Utilities

About: cats2procmailrc is a filter to generate a .procmailrc file from a
much terser and friendlier file consisting mostly of single-line rules.
These suffice to do the most common mail filing, making maintenance of a
procmailrc very easy for someone with more than a few filing rules. Each
rule normally names the folder, an optional subject tag, and the pattern.
Raw procmail rules may also be included for those rare complex filings.

Changes: A simple macro syntax was added. A "synchronous" mode for
rulesets with many continue/copy rules is now available, preventing
procmail fork explosions. A better "raw procmail rule" syntax is used. The
code was completely rewritten in Python.

[015] - Cntlm 0.29.1
  by David Kubicek (http://freshmeat.net/users/mavey/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 01:12

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security
System :: Networking

About: Cntlm is an authenticating HTTP proxy. It takes the address of your
proxies as a parameter and opens a listening socket, forwarding each
request to it (moving on in a circular list if the active parent proxy
stops working). Along the way, the forwarded connection is created anew
and authenticated or, if available, a previously cached connection is
reused to achieve higher efficiency and faster responses. When the chain
is set up, cntlm is to be used as the primary proxy in your applications.

Changes: ACLs, source address binding, multiple parent proxies, and
authenticated connection reuse were implemented. Memory usage was
minimized. Deb and RPM package creation support was added.

  by Leandro Lucarella (http://freshmeat.net/users/llucax/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 10:56

Software Development :: Libraries

About: eventxx is a simple, direct, one-header inline C++ wrapper for
libevent. It's just one header file, so using it is just a matter of
copying it into a project. It's designed to be as close to using libevent
as possible without compromising modern C++ programming techniques and as
efficient as possible. Since all implementation is trivial and inline, it
theoretically imposes no overhead at all.

Changes: Uses event_base_free() by default since libevent 1.3b fixes the
bug that caused the assertion. Minor documentation changes.

[026] - FOX 1.6.28 (Stable)
  by jeroen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jvz/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 10:33

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: FOX is a C++-based toolkit for GUI development. It includes a rich
set of widgets and has powerful yet simple layout managers, MDI widgets,
and mega-widgets. FOX incorporates support for XDND for drag and drop, X
clipboard and X Selection, watching other I/O channels and sockets, timers
and idle processing, object serialization and deserialization, a registry
to save persistent settings, and 3D widgets using Mesa or OpenGL. FOX
works on Linux, IRIX, Solaris, HP/UX, AIX, Tru64 Unix, Windows 9x,NT,2K
(VC++, GNUWIN32, Borland, VisualAge C++), FreeBSD, and Sequent.

Changes: This release fixes a regression in glUseFXFont() when using Xft
instead of XLFD, a bug in FXVisual that caused drawing to FXBitmap to
fail, a bug in FXWindow setDNDData() that affected MS-Windows clipboard
operations, an issue with bold-face text not drawing correctly in FXText
if a gap happened to be in the text-fragment being drawn, and an issue in
multi-head API access under older Windows operating systems than Windows
XP. The FXMDIChild resize animation speed has been changed a little bit.
Some Mac OS X porting issues have been fixed.

[027] - gimmage 0.2.0
  by Bartek Kostrzewa (http://freshmeat.net/users/tschew/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 01:35

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Gimmage is a simple image viewer that aims to have a minimalist
interface and tries to be keyboard operable for browsing through a large
number of images quickly. It is appropriate for command line usage as it
accepts directories and image filenames as arguments. It has an
in-application file browser that allows users to select and drag images
and directories into the image viewing area in order to have them
displayed.

Changes: Locality is now checked at runtime. Images that are not given
with their full path are now correctly loaded. A busy cursor is shown for
image loading and rotation. Support for internationalization was added.
Initial (and rather poor) translations to German and French were added.
Magic file detection is skipped if the filename indicates an image format.
This is much faster, but can result in false positives. The drawing queue
is flushed before changing an image. Drag scrolling now works properly.
Various cleanups were made. autotools was completely integrated.

[028] - GNU tar 1.17 (Release)
  by Wojciech Polak (http://freshmeat.net/users/ghostface/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 11:05

System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: GNU `tar' saves many files together into a single tape or disk
archive, and can restore individual files from the archive. It includes
multivolume support, the ability to archive sparse files, automatic
archive compression/decompression, remote archives and special features
that allow `tar' to be used for incremental and full backups. It also
includes `rmt', the remote tape server (the `mt' tape drive control
program is in GNU `cpio').

Changes: This release fixes archival of sparse files in POSIX mode,
operation of --verify --listed-incremental, and --occurrence. The
end-of-volume script can send the new volume name to tar by writing it to
the file descriptor stored in the environment variable 'TAR_FD'.

  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 08:22

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
Utilities

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: This release fixes these problems: HOME/END in scrollback did not
redraw the screen, compilation had problems with uClibc, and "page up" (in
the scrollbackwindow) did not work when there were lines bigger than the
scrollbackwindow.

  by Wolfgang Ullrich (http://freshmeat.net/users/ullrich/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 08:25

About: YAFPC-Appliance is a browser based management frontend for the PDF
composer/printer/Mailer YAFPC. It comes with the General-Purpose Appliance
System on a bootable CD in combination with an easy to use installation
script. Once installed, any PC booted from this CD image can act as a PDF
print server that provides an unlimited number of network shared virtual

  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 10:39

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Nuface is a Web-based administration tool that generates Edenwall,
NuFW, or simple Netfilter firewall rules. It features a high level
abstraction on the security policy set by the administrator, and works
internally on an XML data scheme. Its philosophy is to let you agglomerate
subjects, resources, or protocols into meta-objects, and use those meta
objects to generate ACLs, which are then interpreted as netfilter rules by
Nupyf, the internal XML parser. This tool may easily be extended to support
firewall implementations other than Netfilter.

Changes: The functional test infrastructure has been backported from the
trunk. Some Makefile bugs have been fixed. A bug in netfilter mark
management when the layer7 filter and authenticated firewall are both
enabled has been fixed.

  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 01:46

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The OpenDBX library provides a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The function
library is written in the C programming language and aims at implementing
access to the native database interfaces efficiently via a thin
abstraction layer. It consists of a basic set of functions that are part
of all vendor database libraries and can be extended by additional
function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS SQL Server, MySQL,
Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are supported.

Changes: This release consists of minor improvements to ease the life of
developers. For future development, enum declarations were added to the
odbx.h file to enable strict type checking by the compiler. Also,
constants for the return values of odbx_result() and odbx_row_fetch() are
now available. The documentation from version 1.2.3 is part of this
release and was extended by descriptions of the new constants. On the
other side, MySQL introduced a new decimal type constant in MySQL 5 which
is now fully supported. A memory leak in the large object interface of the
firebird backend was fixed.

[050] - pretendroot 0.8
  by egmont (http://freshmeat.net/users/egmont/)
  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 11:06

About: Pretendroot is an LD_PRELOAD library which overrides some glibc
calls, pretending you are root while doing file system operations. The
main difference from Debian's fakeroot is that no daemons or other
processes are involved, fake ownership and group are stored on the file
system, and not in memory, hence it can survive even reboots. This library
has been successfully used when building packages for the UHU-Linux
distribution. All of its applications are compiled and installed as an
unprivileged user. However, there's no need to patch Makefiles; commands
such as "install -o root -g mail thisfile ${DESTDIR}/here" work perfectly,
and the final packages will have the desired ownership and group.

Changes: Properly destroys meta-data of a file that ceases to exist
because a rename() call replaces it with a new file. Environment variables
are altered in the wrapper script instead of the library, so that they can
be freely modified within a pretendroot session.

  Fri, Jun 8th 2007 01:53

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: QiQu is a framework to support the MDA and MDSD approach. It
transforms a UML model into source code. It lets you build your own
domain-specific generators that transform your models into the code of
your choice, respecting your architectural design. You are not limited to
any predefined transformation engines or cartridges, nor to any predefined
transformation rules. Since QiQu heavily relies on XML, you can not only
convert from XMI (representing UML) to source code, but from any XML
format into anything else.

Changes: Extraslib examples were added to the Web site. A bug in which the
script folder was not created when creating a new QiQuproject was fixed.
The link to download the files directly from the qiqu was removed.
Manually added classpath entries in a launch configuration were

Scientific/Engineering

About: Frink is a calculating tool and programming language designed to
help you in the real world. It tracks units of measurement throughout all
calculations and ensures that answers are correct. It converts between
systems of measurement and has a huge library of physical data. It handles
conversions between time zones, currencies, and historical values of the
U.S. dollar and the British pound, translates between several languages,
does date/time math, and more.

multiplying by zero, an over-eager optimization turned this into zero
(without dimensions), which worked for may cases, but broke dimensional
analysis. In addition to this bugfix, several further simplifications of
symbolic expressions have been added.
