[005] - Bluewhite64 Linux 12.0 RC1
  by Arny (http://freshmeat.net/users/arny77/)
  Mon, Jun 18th 2007 07:32

About: Bluewhite64 Linux is an unofficial port of Slackware Linux to the
AMD-64/EM64T architectures. It runs on 64-bit AMD Athlon, Opteron,
Sempron, and Intel EM64T (Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology) based
servers and computers. The goal of this port is to mimic the user
experience of the Intel x86 distribution at its best. This port includes
the same software and configuration scripts found in slackware-current
tree.

Changes: Fixes and updates were made. The latest stable SMP Linux kernel
2.6.21.5 is used, supporting all major file systems and IDE/SATA/SCSI
controllers. A few new packages were added, like Cryptsetup 1.0.5,
Knemo-0.4.8, Kvpnc-0.8.9, and Lzo 2.02.

[006] - BMP 0.40.0 RC1 (Development)
  by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
  Mon, Jun 18th 2007 00:13

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: BMP is a media player which provides a very easy-to-use interface
and usage semantics for all tasks, while having extensive standards and
services support under the hood (MusicBrainz, Last.fm radio/scrobbling,
HAL, DBus), yet keeping the details out of the way of the user.

Changes: Stability issues in the library backend were addressed: accessing
the library from threads other than the thread opening the database
initially was fixed, as were other SQL-related issues. The podcast backend
was greatly overhauled and is reliable now. Support for video podcasts was
also added. UI consistency issues (accelerator key combinations as well as
menu naming consistencies) were addressed. Startup performance was
improved. HAL support in the playlist was reinstated (for notifications
about unavailable files).

[029] - Java Print Dialog Framework 1.7
  by JPDF Team (http://freshmeat.net/users/hlander/)
  Mon, Jun 18th 2007 03:36

Printing

About: The Java Print Dialog Framework (JPDF) allows software developers
to add a comprehensive printing capability to existing Java applications.
The JPDF can preview and print the Swing components that comprise the
application's GUI. Business reports and forms containing data obtained
from external sources (e.g. databases and files) can be composed and
printed. A wide variety of page-setup, print-preview, and print dialogs
(which can easily be plugged into an application) are provided. The JPDF
is designed to be integrated into Java Swing applications and applets.

Changes: This release introduces several enhancements to the capability to
print JTables and JTextAreas. The report generation functionality has been
enhanced to provide more flexibility in the use of the predefined report
section types. French has been added to the supported languages. This
release has been tested and verified to work under Windows Vista. All
known bugs have been fixed. The free demo has been updated to showcase the
new capabilities.

  Mon, Jun 18th 2007 13:44

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
Utilities

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: Searching in the scrollback window pops up a new nested window,
so now one can search in the result of a previous search. Errors in error
popups would not fit sometimes, moving to the beginning of the first line
when it is longer then the screen width would not work in scrollback, and
searching would not work when you were half a line in; these issues have
been fixed. 3 memory leaks have been removed. A color scheme has been
added for acpitail.

of different plots and other indicators and calculations.

Changes: Installing TA-Lib is now a pre-requisite. A single-click is now
used to select charts. The user can run external scripts that can pass
data back to ExScript to be plotted. "Indicator Summary" shows a table of
all values of active indicators for each item in a Group. An XML export
can be used by other programs and by the ExScript indicator. See
misc/CUS_examples to get a quick start with custom CUS indicators.
Automated help documents were added for indicators. All the installation
paths were changed from /usr/* to /usr/local/*. This now runs very
reliably on Mac OS X systems.

replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: This release solves a bug in rklogd signal processing and
provides new message properties. Most importantly, it supports recording
syslog message priority with nearly no effort (there is also a tutorial on
how to do that included). Users of 1.13.3 are advised to upgrade. All
others should upgrade only if they need the new functionality.

[056] - S tar 1.5a81 (Development)
  by Jörg Schilling (http://freshmeat.net/users/schily/)
  Mon, Jun 18th 2007 10:40

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: Star is a very fast, POSIX-compliant tar archiver. It saves many
files together into a single tape or disk archive, and can restore
individual files from the archive. It includes command line interfaces for
the "tar", "Sun-Tar", "cpio", "pax", and "gnutar" command-line syntax. It
includes a FIFO for speed, a pattern matcher, multi-volume support, the
ability to archive sparse files and ACLs, the ability to archive extended
file flags, automatic archive format detection, automatic byte order
recognition, automatic archive compression/decompression, remote archives,
and special features that allow star to be used for full and incremental
backups. It includes the only known platform independent "rmt" server
program.

Changes: Support for SunStudio on Linux. Linux-specific autoconf tests are
now only done on Linux. As too many Linux distributions come with broken
kernel include files, this release disables Linux-specific support instead
of failing to compile because of broken kernel include files. Support has
been added to auto create Blastwave SVr4 packages. This release installs
not only binaries and manuals, but also other documentation.

[058] - SimCList 1.2
  by Mij (http://freshmeat.net/users/mijio/)
  Mon, Jun 18th 2007 04:25

Software Development :: Libraries

About: SimCList is a high quality C library for handling lists. Its API is
simple but powerful, makes elegant and consistent use of information
hiding, abstracts the actual data type to store, and is fairly complete.
The library itself has good performance, and makes a good compromise
between performance in terms of time and space. It is well documented and
has a very fast learning curve.

Changes: Transparent inclusion in C++ applications is natively supported.
Sentinels are used to improve performance on list traversals. A problem
was fixed with list_insert_at, which could output inconsistent lists when
inserting into even-sized lists in position 0.

Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Bibliography
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: tbibtools provide a simple regexp-based BibTeX parser that can be
used to sort bib files, reformat bib files, list keys in a bib file, and
show bib entries matching a regular expression. It is available as both a
script and a VIM plugin. It makes a few assumptions about how a bib file
should look like.

Changes: sortCrossref puts cross-referenced entries to the back. A new
format, (un)selectCrossref, allows you to view only entries that are (not)
cross-referenced. The syntax of the query command has changed: query FIELD1
=> RX1, FIELD2 => RX2, etc. Duplicate entries and certain conflicting
fields are merged. A problem with --ls has been fixed.

[068] - x11vnc 0.9.2
  by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
  Mon, Jun 18th 2007 10:41

Communications :: Conferencing
Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Monitoring

About: x11vnc is a program that allows one to remotely view and interact
with real X displays (i.e. a display corresponding to a physical
monitor, keyboard, and mouse) with any VNC viewer. It is similar to
WinVNC and is designed to be compatible with all Unix variants and
depend on a very small set of standard libraries. It supports a growing
number of command line options, such as -nofb for dual- headed mode with
Win2VNC. It is part of the LibVNCServer project.

Changes: A compilation bug that occurred when the OpenSSL library is not
available or --without-ssl is supplied has been fixed; previously, the
build would fail. One can configure x11vnc with
"--with-system-libvncserver" to use a system installed libvncserver
library instead of the one bundled in the release tarball. If UltraVNC
file transfer or chat is detected, then VNC clients are "pinged" more
often to prevent these side channels from becoming serviced too
infrequently.
