Office/Business

About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, and spot and
calibrated color.

Changes: Form Fields will now be formatted if possible. Basic formatting
is supported, and some JavaScript will work if Java 1.6 or Mozilla Rhino
are available. Improvements to PKCS#7 parsing mean that verifying
signatures should now work with any JCE provder, including IAIK and the
default Sun provider. The text wrapping algorithm when track kerning is
set has been fixed. Rendering of some types of Masked images has been
fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The Big Faceless Report Generator is a Java application for
converting source documents written in XML to PDF. Built on top of the Big
Faceless PDF & Graph Libraries, the Report Generator combines these
features and wraps an XML parser around them. Using JSP, ASP, XSL, or
similar, creating dynamic PDF documents directly from a database is now as
easy as HTML.

Changes: Under some circumstances, cells in a table row using "rowspan"
would not have their height calculated correctly. This has been fixed.
Changes from the PDF library will fix problems when using letter-spacing
and non-ASCII bookmarks.

[016] - Entrance 0.82.5 (BETA)
  by Tod Landis (http://freshmeat.net/users/todlandis/)
  Tue, Jun 19th 2007 11:06

Database :: Front-Ends
Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: Entrance is a program for browsing MySQL databases. It includes a
"match box" search facility that is simlar to the Mac's Spotlight.
Entrance can create charts based on query results, and these charts can be
zoomed and panned. Entrance also supports an innovative feature called
"data painting" that allows users to select and paint data points
interactively.

Changes: This release runs on the Apple Leopard beta. It also runs on
systems with Java JRE 1.5 or 1.6. It is now easier to test "problem" MySQL
connections, e.g. those that are nonexistent. The "only","all", and "auto"
keywords for drawing labels on an x axis have been improved, and the
default is now "auto". The new Web page, dbeentrance.com, has an example
showing a plot of the Keeling C02 curve data (click on the chart to see
the SQL behind it).

[020] - GNU ddrescue 1.4 (Stable)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Tue, Jun 19th 2007 03:23

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: A new "--direct" option that instructs ddrescue to use direct
disc access to read the input file, bypassing the kernel cache, has been
added. A bug that displayed an incorrect initial error size has been
fixed.

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Refactoring
Software Development :: Testing

About: The Maven-Grester plugin is a Maven2 plugin for Jester, the JUnit
tester tool. It enables Jester to be executed at any valid Maven lifecycle
phase in a Maven Project. It saves developers from constructing cumbersome
Java classpath entries on the commandline every time they need Jester to
run against JUnit Tests in the project. It can also help to dispense with
a suite of scripts that may have been written to handle complex Java
classpath executions for Maven projects.

Changes: Unit and integration tests on the Linux platform were fixed by
using Suse 10.1 Beta 8 as a testing platform. GroovyMojoSupport's logging
mechanism is used for logging while an application is running rather than
groovy's output to System Output. A few helper classes were added for the
unit tests and some tests were segregated to be strictly unit tests.

for Unix/Linux that currently supports over 800 printers. It emphasizes
quality and flexibility, offering a wide variety of options to meet most
printing needs. It includes a CUPS driver, an IJS-based Ghostscript
driver, Foomatic data, an enhanced Print plugin for The GIMP, and other
printer maintenance utilities. It can be used equally well for fast
printing of text or critical printing of high quality graphics and
photographs.

Changes: This release offers support for almost 70 new printers, full
support for CUPS 1.2 (including extended attributes and on the fly PPD
file generation), corrected support for borderless printing to Epson
printers, the ability to choose resizing rather than cropping when
printing from CUPS, and more. The Mac OS X binary is much faster in some
cases on PPC Macs than the initial 5.0 binary. All users of Gutenprint
5.0.0 should upgrade.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: JOST is an audio host application for making music with plugins
that can be used as plugin itself, or be compiled as a cross bridge
between multiple audio plugin technologies. It can load VST/LADSPA/DSSI
plugins (effects, MIDI effects, and synthesizers). It has audio routing

sequencer with recording, multiple independent MIDI inputs from alsa_seq,
support for GUI plugins, session state load/save, and colour scheme
support.

Changes: This version added the ability to clear all open plugins, made
extremely important fixes in the bindings for Linux, fixed functions for
loading .so files that could cause loading of the same plugin with a
different file name, fixed the plugin editor window returning BadWindow
errors when sending incorrect XEvents, fixed an OSC control that was
unusable due to bad string manipulation, improved handling of already open
windows, improved handling of plugins with their own GUI, and fixed a
problem with some GUI plugins not reparenting correctly in some cases.
Support for sizeWindow calls was temporarily removed.

About: PhpPeanuts is a framework for model-driven development (MDD) in PHP
4 and 5. With MDD, you do not build an application from the bottom up.
Instead, you get one generated from an initial design (the model), which
you extend and refine step by step until it meets your demands. Unlike

complicated CASE tool with myriad diagrams. It's simply expressed in PHP
code. phpPeanuts features polymorphic persistency, navigational queries,
and high level user interface components for searching, sorting, dialogs,

Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.

Changes: Case of characters in HTML tag and attribute names can now be
chosen randomly (to make protected file look less readable) or tag and
attribute names can be lowercased, uppercased, or left as is. The ability
to specify the percentage of characters that are converted into HTML
entities has been added: converting only some characters (rather than all)
into entities makes a protected file look more random and less readable.
Various small improvements have been introduced.

About: Frink is a calculating tool and programming language designed to
help you in the real world. It tracks units of measurement throughout all
calculations and ensures that answers are correct. It converts between
systems of measurement and has a huge library of physical data. It handles
conversions between time zones, currencies, and historical values of the
U.S. dollar and the British pound, translates between several languages,
does date/time math, and more.

Changes: This release adds labeled "break" statements to break out of
nested loops. In addition, several improvements were made to interval
arithmetic on transcendental functions. Functions were added to calculate
partitions of integers.

[060] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 3.0.0-beta26

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system. It is simple to implement and maintain,
allows users to be validated automatically, requires no hardware tokens,
has a simple API for application support (via Ruby, PHP, Java, COM,
Python, etc.), supports multiple domains, and supports replication for
fault tolerance and scalability. It also supports mutual /host and
transaction authentication.

Changes: The delete user bug was fixed. The wikid-utilities RPMs were
released, which include TACACS+ support. A number of changes were made in
the 3.0 release, mostly in the underlying architecture. The project
continues to move away from an appliance-only model. As such, instead of
multiple controller scripts (setup, start, stop, etc), a single "wikidctl"
script that takes an action as its argument is used. All webapps have been
packaged as WAR files and Tomcat 5.5 was bundled with the server, though
you can drop the WARs into an existing servlet container.

more) on an LCD that is run by an LCDproc server.

battery/ACPI screen and a big clock and uptime screen. RSS, POP 3, and
IMAP screens have also been added, and there is a FIFO to write directly
on the display. A config dialog has been added, and it should support
