Thu, Jun 21st 2007 10:47
Education
Software Development :: Documentation
System :: Systems Administration
About: The Advanced Bash Scripting Guide is both a reference and a
tutorial on shell scripting. This comprehensive book (the equivalent of
850+ print pages) covers almost every aspect of shell scripting. It
contains 330 profusely commented illustrative examples, a number of
tables, and a cross-linked index. Not just a shell scripting tutorial,
this book also provides an introduction to basic programming techniques,
such as sorting and recursion. It is well suited for either individual
study or classroom use. It covers Bash version 3+.
Changes: This release adds a cross-linked index (the final missing
critical feature in this project), other new material (including a new
appendix and a couple of new example scripts), and bugfixes. This is an
important update.

[024] - Hotwire 0.567
by Colin Walters (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinwalters/)
Thu, Jun 21st 2007 01:20
Software Development
About: Hotwire is intended to replace the interactive command execution
portion of a typical Unix shell. It includes much of the functionality
found in the combination of a terminal emulator, a shell, and core
utilities like ls and grep. Most of the commands are named the same, and
do basically the same thing. Where it makes sense, Hotwire improves the
commands to have better defaults and makes things nicer by using the
mouse, and so on. For example, rm moves files to ~/.Trash on Unix and
Recycle Bin on Windows, cd automatically lists the contents of the
directory you change to, ls links are clickable (view file or cd to
directory), filter (analogous to Unix grep) shows matching text in bold,
and the ps process list has right-click menu for killing.
Changes: Support for creating new windows (in addition to new tabs) was
added. Ctrl-c now Does The Right Thing; if you have a selection it copies,
otherwise it cancels the last command. Tab switching is now Ctrl-# and not
Alt-# to match gnome-terminal and Firefox. There is now a basic menu bar
for some discoverability. Alt-Left and Alt-Right key bindings were
removed. Ctrl-PageUp/PageDn or Ctrl-# can be used instead. Ctrl-Up and
Ctrl-Down are convenient ways to cycle through previous command displays.

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
About: mxGraph is a JavaScript library that uses built-in browser
capabilities to provide an interactive drawing and diagramming solution.
Target applications are Web based applications that require workflow/BPM,

Web page.
Changes: This release adds mxGraph.minimumGraphBounds and
maximumGraphBounds. maximumGraphBounds limits the extent of the graph
area, moving any cells outside of the area back into the graph.
minimumGraphBounds defines the minimum size of the container, and requires
the new resizeContainer flag to be true to take effect. The resizeContainer
flag is used to match the size of the graph to the size of the container.
Also of note: there is a new cloud shape, edges can have unlimited numbers

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: netstiff (formerly known as webdiff) is a powerful Web and FTP site
update checker. It supports a variety of different methods (diff, html,
size, date, MD5 sum, regexp) and only prints the URIs of the Web pages
that changed so that its output can easily be used by other scripts (such
as wget or mail).
Changes: As a release focus, (beta) FTP support has been added with test
methods "diff", "size", and "date". Furthermore, stderr is used for errors
and warnings in addition to the log file. To suppress this behaviour, the
-S option has been introduced. The configurator experienced some changes,
too, e.g. URIs can be titled now.

[035] - Open Blue Lab Financial / Costs 1.1.7
by Myriam (http://freshmeat.net/users/MyriamM/)
Thu, Jun 21st 2007 22:14
Office/Business
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
Office/Business :: Groupware
About: Open Blue Lab is a modular ERP, built on a plugin architecture.
Each business domain (such as Groupware, Financial, HCM, PLM, or SCM) is
separated into subdomains which are implemented through plugins. This
architecture permits you to choose only the components that suit your
needs. Each plugin is certified Zero Code, configurable through a GUI, and
may be adapted through the UML models provided.
Changes: Change were made in the cost accounting class diagram. Cost
objects are now considered like a unit of cost analysis. This simplifies
the "ressources consuption" notion. A link between "Period" and "Cost
accounting" was also added. Indeed, a cost accounting is constructed for
only one period given, and so it is for one company only. Changes were
made in the dashboard class diagram. The "PerformanceIndicator" class was
replaced by "ActionIndicator". In a "Stage", limitLower and limitHigher
attributes were added.

Thu, Jun 21st 2007 10:44
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Palava is a communication protocol to build Web applications using
PHP and Java. It allows you to build modern 3-tier architectures, where
PHP runs on the frontend servers and Java runs on the backend. It consists
of a Java backend server to handle the communication, providing a component
deployment mechanism, and a PHP library to access backend jobs from the
frontend(s). Palava makes it easy to reuse existing Java business logic in
easily created, modern PHP frontends. Palava is not a full blown Web site
framework, but instead encourages the use of existing frameworks like
CodeIgniter.
Changes: This release adds generic JBoss support. It uses the build.jboss
file to build a bean. There are minor bugfixes.

[043] - samhain 2.3.5
by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
Thu, Jun 21st 2007 11:01
Security
About: samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file
tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It
can be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized
monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server
connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.
Changes: This release fixes some minor bugs. The portcheck module tears
down connections for some common protocols more gracefully.

server. It avoids hardcoding business logic, and workflows can be built
from different workflow "patterns" like simple actions, decisions,
selections, loops, and custom code. The SWAMP server automatically creates
a Web GUI from the workflow definition file that guides users through the
business logic process based on their roles. Notification is sent if
required. Overview pages over all running workflows and much more are
available.
Changes: This release was updated to Jakarta-Regexp 1.5 and Velocity 1.5.

goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.
Changes: This release adds support for JSON calling conventions, shared
error codes, and import of WSDL and XML Schema. Integration with the
Spring framework and GWT has been improved. New examples with Groovy,
REST, and the Dojo toolkit have been added. Many other small features and
