Database
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: ComicMaster is a CBR/CBZ reader for comic archives. It is able to
open CBR and CBZ archives and display image contents. It allows you to add
and remove single images, reorder images, and rename images in archives. It
has some functionality to verify archives, and provides means to
conveniently sort archives in a different folder. Those features are
fairly well tested. It allows you to load a database plugin to manage
comics in a PostgreSQL database, and it allows you to add meta-information
in XML format to archives. The implementation of these features is
currently sketchy at best.

[009] - Cook 1.29
  by Peter Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/pmiller/)
  Fri, Jun 22nd 2007 05:39

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Cook is a tool for constructing files. It is given a set of files
to create, and recipes of how to create them. In any non-trivial program
there will be prerequisites to performing the actions necessary to
creating any file, such as include files. Cook provides a mechanism to
define these. When a program is being developed or maintained, the
programmer will typically change one file of several which comprise the
program. Cook examines the last-modified times of the files to see when
the prerequisites of a file have changed, implying that the file needs to
be recreated as it is logically out of date.

Changes: Users can now specify the filesystem timestamp granularity (in
the rare cases in which the default is wrong) and can symlink recipe
ingredients when using a view path (for tools that don't grok view paths).

[010] - DBIx::Perlish 0.26
  by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
  Fri, Jun 22nd 2007 10:57

About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.

Changes: This release handles selects from DUAL in Oracle specially.

[012] - Dragon parser generator 1.2.10
  by lemke (http://freshmeat.net/users/lemke/)
  Fri, Jun 22nd 2007 13:52

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Dragon is a powerful parser generator. It produces a consequent,
object-oriented, integrated scanner and parser solution. It also scales
for very large grammar defintions. Since dragon parses LR(1) grammars, the
generation algorithm is quite CPU intensive. Using LR(1) instead of LALR
decreases efficiency of the parser, but avoids some reduce/reduce
conflicts in some cases. Dragon provides a very clean and structured way
for the integration of application specific context code. Dragon combines
the lexical and syntactical analysis and the corresponding code
generation.

Changes: The parse table code has been changed to static arrays, which
improves startup and and runtime performance of the generated parser
(about 40 %).

Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.
Scientific/Engineering :: Neuroscience
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is a magnetic resonance imaging
method that can be used to measure local information about the structure
of white matter pathways within the human brain. Combining DTI data with
the computational methods of MR tractography, neuroscientists can estimate
the locations and sizes of nerve bundles (white matter pathways) that
course through the human brain. DTI-Query allows neuroscientists to place
and interactively manipulate box-shaped regions (or volumes of interest)

  Fri, Jun 22nd 2007 11:36

Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: DVDRipper can rip any DVD to DVD, DivX, SVCD, KVCD, or VCD. It
supports the DVD5 and DVD9 DVD formats and can also convert between these
two formats.

Changes: There was an error in the Quality Control bar, which has been
fixed. Ripping to DivX used the MPEG4 codec, which is not compatible with
most DVD players. This has been fixed as well, and DVDs ripped to DivX
will now play in most DVD players. This release has been more thoroughly

Software Development :: Libraries

About: MQ4CPP, or "Message Queuing for C++", is an implementation of an
enterprise messaging system, also referred to as message-oriented
middleware (MOM). It enables C++ application threads to communicate with
other threads locally or remotely through the exchange of messages. A
message is a request, report, and/or event that contains information
needed to coordinate communication between different applications. MQ4CPP
implements direct/indirect messaging, unsolicited messaging,
request/reply, conversation, publish/subscribe, store & forward, and
broadcast. It supports multithreading, application clustering (failover
and session replication), and encryption. MQ4CPP also includes a
distributed lock manager, a file transfer manager, and a distributed
memory channel.

Changes: This version improves message switching and fixes some bugs.

[034] - rsyslog 1.13.5 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Fri, Jun 22nd 2007 11:26

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: The maximum number of TCP client sessions can now be set via the
command line. A bug has been fixed that caused the "rsyslog:" tag to be
missing on internally-generated messages. Some other minor bugs have been
fixed. It is recommended to upgrade to this release.

strictly-typed abstract syntax trees and tree walkers. SableCC also keeps
a clean separation between machine-generated code and user-written code,
which leads to a shorter development cycle.

Changes: This alpha version introduces code to efficiently manage
alphabets of symbols made of sets of intervals. It also provides automated
builds using Ant and automated testing using JUnit.

[037] - SlackRoll v8
  by rg3 (http://freshmeat.net/users/rg3/)
  Fri, Jun 22nd 2007 17:45

System :: Software Distribution
System :: Systems Administration

About: SlackRoll is a package or upgrade manager for Slackware Linux. It
is designed to work with official mirrors in systems mainly composed of
official packages with a few unofficial packages. It lets you
automatically upgrade or install packages, and displays which packages
have been added or removed from the Slackware tree.

Changes: This release adds the path-search command and fixes two serious
problems. First, the program now detects HTTP error codes properly.
Second, the GnuPG signature verification code didn't detect GnuPG exit
codes other than 0 and 1, which resulted in a potential security problem
as malformed signatures make GnuPG exit with other codes, and these
signature would pass as valid. A combination of the first and second
problems could leave the local system in a weird state.
