[010] - DBIx::Perlish 0.27
by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
Wed, Jul 11th 2007 10:11
About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.
Changes: This release fixes a tricky bug with outer lexical variables used
inside a union and friends. It does not require semicolons between chained
union-like constructs.

Wed, Jul 11th 2007 16:31
Software Development :: Disassemblers
Utilities
About: Hachoir is a Python library used to represent a binary file as a
tree of Python objects. Each object has a type, a value, an address, etc.
The goal is to be able to know the meaning of each bit in a file. Hachoir
is able to open invalid or truncated files. It only reads or computes data
on demand to minimize load times. Many field types are predefined (integer,
bit, string, etc.) and strings with a given character set (such as
ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8) are supported. Addresses and sizes are stored in
bits.
Changes: This release has a new type TimestampUUID60 (used in Windows
GUID). The SeekableFieldSet class has been fixed. String value is always
Unicode. A readBytes() method has been added to OutputStream.
hachoir_core.profiler (profile method) and hachoir_core.timeout (call a

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: iDMC is user-friendly software for the simulation and analysis of
non-linear models. It was designed both as a teaching and research tool,
and is very easy to use (a users guide is available). Numerical
calculations are performed on models included in the package, or any model
formulated by the user and easily encoded (a few lines with no compilation
necessary). The Java graphical user interface provides fast generation of
graphical data of good quality, which can be saved as .png files. Hard
computational tasks are delegated to a separate, small C library.
Changes: This release adds data exporting capability, a faster 'basins of
attraction' algorithm, a new random number generator, and periodic cycles
classification. There are miscellaneous bugfixes. Native code has been
moved to a separate, external C library.

Wed, Jul 11th 2007 14:24
Scientific/Engineering
About: Impact is a finite element program for simulation of dynamic events
such as car crashes or other large deformation events. It is kept very
simple to make it intuitive to use and easy to change and extend. The
program includes a NURBS based pre-processor for modelling, a solver with
editor, a post-processor, and a graph plotter for results viewing. Impact
also interfaces with several other programs, such as Nastran and Gmsh.
Changes: The entire preprocessor model can now be saved in the .in file.
It is possible to script drive the geometry and FE model by manually
editing the .in file and then reading it into the preprocessor. A bug was
fixed in the post-processor where Gradient Result is now visible in the
OpenGL accelerated version.

Education :: Testing
About: LON-CAPA (The LearningOnline Network with CAPA) is a learning
content and course management system. It offers an underlying shared
content pool from which instructors across departmental and institutional
boundaries can assemble granular learning content for their courses. It
has strong assessment capabilities, both formative (homework and in-class
using wireless PDAs) and summative (online and bubblesheet exams), with a
one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students
portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to
projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous
student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well
with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole
network of servers at participating institutions.
Changes: This release correctly installs the jsMath fonts, which are used
for TeX rendering. Symbolic math input now gets correctly compared to the
instructor-prepared sample answer. Several issues regarding the printing,
rendering, and grading of ".page" content assemblies were resolved.
Teaching Assistants can now grade assignments that have an encrypted URL.
The character "@" is now allowed in usernames. The German localization
file was updated. Installation on CentOS and Scientific Linux is now

Software Development :: Testing
About: MoMEUnit is an instance of the xUnit architecture for unit testing
of J2ME applications. It is derived from the JUnit framework. It is only
CLDC 1.1 compliant. It overcomes the lack of a reflection API in the J2ME
MIDP API and supports main features of the JUnit framework such as ease of
development and running of tests, sharing of fixtures among different
tests, the ability to perform simultaneous test runs, and much more. The
results of tests are displayed with a progress bar, statistics, and lists
of failures or errors with detailed messages for each test.
Changes: Ant integration was added. Its tasks calculate lists of tests to
run based on Test interface implementation and specified patterns, free
developers from specifying test cases explicitly, run test cases of
already built J2ME applications or build it based on source files,
classes, and libraries specified, format test run output by using
predefined or custom formatters (all test characteristics including times

[065] - Stager 3.0b1
by Arne Oslebo (http://freshmeat.net/users/arneos/)
Wed, Jul 11th 2007 06:18
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: Stager is a system for aggregating and presenting network
statistics. Though tailored for using NetFlow data from the flow-tools
package, it is generic and can be customized to present and process any
kind of network statistics. The backend collects data with flow-tools
and stores reports in a database, automatically handling the aggregation
of hourly statistics into days, weeks, and months. The Web frontend
presents data in tables, matrices, or plots. The reports are fully
customizable, and their definitions are stored in the database.
Changes: The backend has been completely rewritten and is now implemented
in PHP. The new backend is faster and more generic so that it is easier to
add support for other types of statistics. The new backends are also more
robust against database down time. In the web GUI, it is now possible to
right click on most data to bring up a context menu where it is possible
to add custom links.

methods create NSString objects from template files passed as POSIX
pathnames. Template files can be in any encoding supported by the
installed system software. Start tags, end tags, and placeholders, along
with their replacement values are user-definable.
Changes: This library has been in use by several projects for more than 2
years and it has been running without any problems.

Wed, Jul 11th 2007 08:11
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities
About: System Configuration Collector (SCC) is yet another configuration
collector. It consists of a client and a server part. The client collects

snapshot and the logbook are converted to HTML for local inspection.
Optionally, the data can be sent to a system running the server software.
On the server, summaries of the data are generated, and search/compare
operations on the snapshots and logbooks are available via a Web
interface.
Changes: The DIV tags in the HTML was corrected. Directory data/transfer
was created to avoid errors in scc-pull. cpu-speed for SunOS was added.
The machinfo variable is now initialized. The determination of local
filesystems on Linux was corrected. Squid classification was corrected.
