[009] - Blitz templates 0.4.22
by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
Thu, Jul 12th 2007 06:46
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Blitz templates is a fast template engine written in C and compiled
as a PHP module. It started as a php_templates replacement, but developed
into much more. It is based on extensible template controllers (custom
view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates (simple logic in HTML).
Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest template engines for PHP,
even though it's not trivial and makes Web application closer to the MVC2
architecture model. It was designed for big Internet projects with a lot
of complex presentation logic.
Changes: Block method semantics were extended: one can use block($data)
instead of block(NULL,$data) to iterate over the current context. The set
method now accepts arrays with numerical keys to set several root
iterations simultaneously. Basic template examples were added to
php_info(). A couple of new tests were added.

Thu, Jul 12th 2007 23:03
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security
System :: Networking
About: Cntlm is an authenticating HTTP proxy. It takes the address of your
proxies as a parameter and opens a listening socket, forwarding each
request to it (moving on in a circular list if the active parent proxy
stops working). Along the way, the forwarded connection is created anew
and authenticated or, if available, a previously cached connection is
reused to achieve higher efficiency and faster responses. When the chain
is set up, cntlm is to be used as the primary proxy in your applications.
Changes: An error message is printed on stderr if starting is not
successful (instead of only returning an error code). The init scripts
were updated not to display possible error message (uses only RC). An
NTLM-to-basic feature with multiuser support was implemented. This can
detect a wrong password, allowing multiple tries without restarting the
browser, and includes a builtin "access denied" page.

[012] - Common UNIX Printing System 1.2.12
by Michael Sweet (http://freshmeat.net/users/easysw/)
Thu, Jul 12th 2007 14:36
Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries
About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.
Changes: This release fixes several file typing issues, a bad error
message in the scheduler, a Web interface setting problem, and a bug in
the PHP language binding. It also includes an updated Italian translation.

[013] - Crossroads Load Balancer 1.51
by Karel Kubat (http://freshmeat.net/users/karelk/)
Thu, Jul 12th 2007 02:48
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Networking
About: Crossroads is an OSI layer 5-7 load balance and failover utility
for TCP-based services. It is a daemon program running in userspace and
features extensive configurability, polling of backends using "wakeup
calls", highly configurable dispatch modes of client requests to back
ends, detailed status reporting, "hooks" for special actions when backend
calls fail, support for "sticky" HTTP sessions, and more. It is
service-independent; it is usable for HTTP(S), SSH, SMTP, DNS, MySQL, etc.
Services are defined in a configuration file, and a Web front end can be
used for monitoring.
Changes: This release adds support for managing a pool of virtual
back-ends, where the number of back-end workers and their IP addresses are
not known a priori. Worker IPs can be assigned at runtime through the
command line or via the Web front-end. Initial states can be specified in
the configuration. There is no longer a limitation on the number of
back-ends per service. The status overview in XML reports counts of
back-ends per state. The documentation was updated.

About: DVBStreamer is a console based application for streaming DVB/ATSC
service(s) over UDP or to a file. It has a simple plugin architecture to
allow more features to be added.
Changes: This release adds ATSC support and fixes major problems with
DVB-S support. Also included are several new plugins for capturing EPG
information (both DVB and ATSC) and dumping it out in XMLTV format. -Wall
and -Werror compilation switches were turned on, which has meant that
several obscure bugs have been picked up. The way connections are handled
by the remote control server was rewritten, solving a virtual memory leak.
DVB cards that can only stream a portion of the TS are now supported.

[032] - MathGuard 3.0
by matto3c (http://freshmeat.net/users/matto3c/)
Thu, Jul 12th 2007 07:05
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: MathGuard is a PHP class that inserts a small piece of HTML code
into your HTML form which requires the user to evaluate an expression
consisting of two random numbers. When user submits the form with the
answer, the answer is hashed and compared to the security code that has
been submitted as well. This way you can easily protect your forms from
spambots.
Changes: This version features more complex rendering of the security
question. This question now consists of small random letters directly
inserted to HTML, instead of just writing the plain numbers into the
source code of the Web page. This way, the protection against spambots is
even stronger.

[033] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha18.0
by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
Thu, Jul 12th 2007 08:46
About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.
Changes: An incompatible change was made: map entries for the SMTP server
and client which contain configuration data (smtps_session_conf,
smtpc_session_conf, and smtpc_rcpt_conf) now require tls_requirements as
section around previous data. Map entries of type session_features have
been merged into smtps_session_conf. A simple conversion script for access
maps is available: scripts/sessfeatmerge.awk.

[043] - pretendroot 0.9
by egmont (http://freshmeat.net/users/egmont/)
Thu, Jul 12th 2007 14:07
About: Pretendroot is an LD_PRELOAD library which overrides some glibc
calls, pretending you are root while doing file system operations. The
main difference from Debian's fakeroot is that no daemons or other
processes are involved, fake ownership and group are stored on the file
system, and not in memory, hence it can survive even reboots. This library
has been successfully used when building packages for the UHU-Linux
distribution. All of its applications are compiled and installed as an
unprivileged user. However, there's no need to patch Makefiles; commands
such as "install -o root -g mail thisfile ${DESTDIR}/here" work perfectly,
and the final packages will have the desired ownership and group.
Changes: This release adds support for the *at family of system calls, as
well as for getgroups/setgroups. The wrapper script is improved, and a
compiler warning is eliminated.
