About: Cyphesis is a fantasy MMORPG server (and NPC engine for servers)
using AI/A-Life techniques which doesn't have a predefined story. It is
the Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Life server/client used by the
WorldForge project.
Changes: The way rules data is handled is now much simpler to make it
easier for game designers to create what they want. A lot of hard-coded
functionality has been removed from the compiled core program. Core
functionality is now associated with properties, and so can be applied to
any entity. Most of Mason has been reimplemented as task scripts, which
are cleaner and more flexible. There are more helpful messages when
inconsistencies are detected in rule data. This release works more

[011] - Database Bean Generator 2.1.2
by jespo (http://freshmeat.net/users/jespo2005/)
Sun, Jul 15th 2007 00:06
Database
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Generator is a command line application to facilitate the
construction of small applications that need some database objects. It
isn't a replacement for complex object persistence solutions, like
hibernate or TopLink, but it covers a different target: the little Java
Web applications that don't use sophisticated persistence options.
Generator invocation is simple: just type java -jar generator.jar -xml,
where the config file is an XML config file with the definitions to
connect to the database and generate the bean classes. You can also use
the Ant task.
Changes: Support for the H2 database was added. Support for raw code in
the utils classes was added.

About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, user-controllable result ranking, the ability to
return results with highlights (like Google), and categorized result
counts (like Amazon). It can easily integrate with other languages with
XML/JSON/HTML. There is a UI for all operations, so no Java coding is
necessary. Deleted or updated records in database can be synchronized
also.
Changes: Keywords support was added for Number. Indexes in Server
Clustering mode are replicated when only deletion occurs. Security
checking for local requests is avoided. Lucene Query syntax in hybrid mode
is correctly analyzed. Index configuration and templates are downloadable

Sun, Jul 15th 2007 06:15
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing
About: DUMA (Detect Unintended Memory Access) stops your program on the
exact instruction that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer.
GDB will then display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works
by using the virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of
each buffer: touch that, and your program stops. It can catch formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs. DUMA is a fork of Bruce Perens' Electric
Fence library.
Changes: Support for Win32 with Cygwin and Mac OS X was added.

Sun, Jul 15th 2007 08:43
Software Development :: Internationalization
System :: Archiving
System :: Shells
About: The Heirloom Toolchest is a collection of standard Unix utilities.
It was derived from original Unix material released as open source by
Caldera and Sun, and contains multiple versions of each utility
corresponding to SVID3/SVR4, SVID4/SVR4.2MP, POSIX.2-1992/SUSV2,
POSIX.1-2001/SUSV3, and 4BSD (SVR4 /usr/ucb). It processes lines of
arbitrary length and in many cases binary input data, supports characters
in UTF-8 and many East Asian encodings, and contains more than 100
individual utilities including bc, cpio, diff, ed, file, find, grep, man,
nawk, oawk, pax, ps, sed, sort, spell, and tar. Extensive documentation is
included.
Changes: A "-P" option has been added to "cpio" that allows you to specify
attributes like the file owner when creating an archive. With it,
unprivileged users can set arbitrary attributes for files within an
archive. Some compilation problems have been fixed, particularly with
respect to current Linux distributions.

[033] - Humanzip 0.5
by Matthew Strait (http://freshmeat.net/users/quadong/)
Sun, Jul 15th 2007 18:29
Text Processing
About: humanzip is a compression program that operates on text files.
Unlike most compression algorithms, its output is human readable. Indeed,
it is explicitly meant to be read by humans and might even be easier to
read than the original. humanzip compresses files by looking for common
strings of words and replacing them with single symbols. The idea is to
reduce the screen and print size of documents. humanzip does not
explicitly try to reduce the size of the file as measured in bytes,
although this usually happens incidentally.
