[001] - Apache SpamAssassin 3.2.2 (Stable)
  by Justin Mason (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmason/)
  Wed, Jul 25th 2007 06:54

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Apache SpamAssassin is an extensible email filter that is used to
identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as
spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform
filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and
Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules allowing Apache SpamAssassin to
be used in a wide variety of email systems.

Changes: The "make test" rule was fixed when running as root; this is
needed for CPAN. Certain mail input can take a long time to scan with 100%
CPU utilization, due to backtracking in a rule's regexp. Sending a HUP
signal to the spamd process causes the ps name to change from spamd to
perl. "make test" errors in Windows caused by nonportable use of getpwuid
were fixed. Multiple DNS records for a host name should allow use of spamd
-H for load balancing installs to work. Network lookup timeouts were fixed,
where lookups were being lost once a timeout was hit.

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: The audit package contains the user-space utilities for creating
audit rules, as well as for storing and searching the audit records
generate by the audit subsystem in the Linux 2.6 kernel.

Changes: Updates were made to system-config-audit. auditctl was updated to
better handle watching of directories with older kernels. Memory leaks and
an invalid free in auditd were fixed along with interpretations in
auparse.

[004] - bind 9.4.1-P1 (Current)
  by Martin Schröder (http://freshmeat.net/users/martinschrder/)
  Wed, Jul 25th 2007 06:48

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) implements an Internet
name server for Unix operating systems. The BIND consists of a server (or
`daemon') called `named' and a resolver library. A name server is a
network service that enables clients to name resources or objects and
share this information with other objects in the network.

Changes: This fixes the security problem identified as CVE-2007-2925. The
problem is that the default access control lists (ACLs) are not being
correctly set. If not set, anyone can make recursive queries and/or query
the cache contents.

[005] - ckjm 1.8
  by Diomidis Spinellis (http://freshmeat.net/users/diomidis/)
  Wed, Jul 25th 2007 11:03

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: ckjm calculates Chidamber and Kemerer object-oriented metrics by
processing the bytecode of compiled Java files. For each class given, the
program calculates the following six metrics proposed by Chidamber and
Kemerer: WMC, weighted methods per class; DIT, depth of inheritance tree;
NOC, number of children; CBO, coupling between object classes; RFC,
response for a class; and LCOM, lack of cohesion in methods. In addition,
ckjm also calculates each class's afferent couplings (Ca) and its number
of public methods (NPM).

Changes: The depth of inheritance tree (DIT) calculation now also takes
into account classes that are not directly processed. The ckjm ant task
has a corresponding structure. Contributed code contains Ruby scripts that
plot ckjm metrics as charts.

[016] - Google Singleton Detector 0.7.2
  by David Rubel (http://freshmeat.net/users/TasteyMaggot/)
  Wed, Jul 25th 2007 02:45

Software Development :: Refactoring
Software Development :: Testing

About: The Google Singleton Detector, or GSD, is a tool which analyzes
Java bytecode and detects the use of Singletons. It's not quite as simple
as that, however. First, GSD doesn't only detect singletons; it detects
four different types of global state, including singletons, hingletons,
mingletons, and fingletons. Second, it outputs a graph with all these
different types of static state highlighted, and shows all the classes
that are directly dependent on them. The point of this tool is to allow
you to see all of the uses of global state inside a project, as well as
how they are all interrelated.

  Wed, Jul 25th 2007 11:11

Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: Ipod movie maker is a dialog window bash script that allows you to
merge *.txt subtitles with movie files and save the result in AVI format.
You may convert many kinds of video to .mp4, which is an iPod Video
compatible format. You will be only questioned about the location of a
source movie, subtitles, encoding (default is WINDOWS-1250), font location
(default is /home/$USER/.mplayer/font/subfont.ttf), and where to save the
resulting .mp4 file. You can have each work done separately, or have whole
process done at once, from hardcoding subtitles to encoding to iPod format.

Changes: This release is a fully working script. It has no problems with
space lines, and can perform an entire conversion process by only setting
configuration for hard-coding subtitles.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Libraries

About: JChart2D is a Swing widget for precise runtime visualization of
numerical tuples in an x-y plot. It is easy to use and is designed for
runtime display. Unlike other charting tools that cover all kinds of views
(pie, bar, etc.), it just creates precise x-y plots. It is thread-safe, in
that many different threads in an application may each add data to plot. A
single chart may contain multiple different traces. It also features
automatic scaling, choice of unit, viewports (zooming), output to images
(png, jpeg), logarithmic axis, and custom rendering of datapoints (lines,
dots, discs, filled polygons).

Changes: This release covers a major performance boost in dynamic charting

[029] - massXpert mass spectrometry package 1.6.4
  by filippo rusconi (http://freshmeat.net/users/FilippoRusconi/)
  Wed, Jul 25th 2007 02:17

Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment
for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU
polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in
the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the
desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the
sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass
spectrometric simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations
include polymer and monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence
cleavage, gas-phase fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.

Changes: The translation framework was set up and the program was fully
translated to French. The handling of monomer modifications was definitely
improved when no svg file has been defined for these: the program is now
crash-proof. A bunch of bugs were fixed regarding the modifications being
declared in the polymer chemistry definitions but not available as svg
files (which would lead to crashes). The User Manual was fixed.

About: The Mobile Web Proxy is a (CGI) tool to make more Web pages
available from some mobile devices (cell phone Web browsers, etc.). It
employs tag cleaning and paging so that Web pages it can access have far
greater chances of being rendered on devices that cannot display overly
large or complex pages. It is simple, but it seems to substantially extend
the portion of the Web available from devices that otherwise display
messages like "413: Page cannot be displayed."

About: Monster is a short NES/SNES style RPG. It takes approximately 5 to
10 hours to complete using medium speed settings.

Changes: Gamepad calibration was added. The player's bounding box was made
smaller so that the player can more easily go through tight passages. An
-impatient-mode switch that turns off waiting for turns in battle was
added. Some new grass tiles were added. The battles in the cave were
balanced a little bit better. New bushes and trees and new village walls
were added. Some small stones and flowers and bits of grass were added to
give some variety to the village landscape. Command line parameters to set
joystick buttons were added. Minor bugs were fixed.

engaging space piracy and trading game from the early 1990's. It is
available for many platforms with the inflight and ground art redone at
800x600 as well as with all the familiar controls from the original. Just
like the original, you start poor, with an old scout class ship in a
sparsely populated system in the Gemini Sector. As usual, you must try to
get money through various mission assignments from which you can purchase
better ships and upgrades. It's your choice how to explore Gemini and
align with the various factions, earn your money as a merchant, bounty
hunter, traitor, or pirate.

Changes: A new paradigm model with turrets was added. A new "New

prevents you from landing was fixed. Hostile militia wingmen and lack of
mission payment in the Lynn Murphy mission were fixed. A problem in which
the pirate doesn't deliver a message in the Search for Mordichai Jones was
fixed. A problem in which NPCs are always hostile (in Linux) was fixed. A
cargo space calculation bug when using cargo expansion, missing
Linux/Ubuntu dependencies, impossible rescue missions, and sound issues

  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Wed, Jul 25th 2007 02:51

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: This version is a code cleanup release, implementing more of the
future output module interface. It also fixes some minor bugs. The primary
reason for release is to gather feedback. Lots of code has been changed,
and there is a potential for new bugs. Installing this release is only

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules

About: utf8proc is a library for processing UTF-8 encoded Unicode strings.
Some features are Unicode normalization, stripping of default ignorable
characters, case folding, and detection of grapheme cluster boundaries.
The library can be used in C programs, but most of the functionality is
also available as a ruby library. For PostgreSQL, there is an extension
providing a function for preparing strings in case insensitive indices.
The currently supported Unicode version is 5.0.0.

Changes: A serious bug was fixed in the data file generator, which caused
characters to be treated incorrectly when stripping default ignorable
characters or calculating grapheme cluster boundaries. Unicode
normalization was not affected by this bug.

Sendmail or Postfix to accept email for a domain. It can also manage
mailboxes and mail aliases within a domain.

Changes: Webalizer statistics are now included in cPanel migrations. A
restriction was added to the Edit Owner Limits page to prevent the
creation of catch-all email aliases. A Module Config option was added for
deleting aliases when email is disabled for a domain. Many small bugs were

About: vlock is a program to lock one or more sessions on the Linux
console. This is especially useful for Linux machines which have multiple
users with access to the console. One user may lock his or her session(s)
while still allowing other users to use the system on other virtual
consoles. If desired, the entire console may be locked and virtual console
can be switching disabled.

Changes: This is a major rewrite since vlock 1.4. vlock is now made of
separate tools that are called from a main shell script.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Testing

About: The Web Performance Suite is a suite of testing tools for Web
servers, including load testing, Web page performance analysis, and
operating system tuning. The statistical analysis in the Load Testing
Module takes your site's performance criteria, and determines the number
of users your Web site can handle. Because data is collected at the URL
level, it not only identifies slow Web pages, but identifies the
particular part of the Web page that caused the problem. It includes
hard-to-find features such as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple
simultaneous test cases, authentication, SSL recording and playback,
automated analysis, AJAX support, SOAP support, and more.

Changes: This release adds new modules to automatically detect performance
problems in servers running either Windows or Linux. Up to 23 different OS
parameters are tracked and then evaluated for performance issues.

About: weedit is a file duplicate scanner with database support. It uses
CRC32, MD5, and file size to scan for duplicates. Files that are deleted
are automatically removed from the database when a duplicate is found. It
will only rescan files if the creation time or last write time change. It
will only delete duplicated files if the parameter for deleting is used.
The default setting is to report only.

Changes: Speed was increased by eliminating the use of memcpy. The "v"
parameter was added, which shows file system version. Symbolic links are
no longer followed while scanning.

About: XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a
lot of features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server
which exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is
based on CORBA (using JacORB), RMI, XML-RPC, native socket, or a
persistent HTTP plugin. Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter
the messages they wish to receive and add their own MIME-based filter
plugins. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, VisualBasic.net, C#, and PHP client
demos are included in the xmlBlaster test suite, and Tcl and Python demo
clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also provides a browser callback
framework, allowing browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant
callbacks over a persistent http connection. A security plugin framework
allows authentication/authorization in many ways. Currently there are
LDAP- and passwd-based plugins available.

Changes: Bugfixes and many minor feature enhancements were made. J2ME
mobile phone and C# PDA support were added.

Documentation
Software Development :: Documentation
Text Processing :: General

About: Zoem is a general-purpose macro/programming language that submits
text to a two-stage transformation process. Macro expansion and
interpretation is followed by application of customizable character
filtering rules. Zoem supports inside-out evaluation, comprehensive IO,
control operators, iteration, dictionary stacks, multidimensional data
storage, arithmetic expressions, regular expressions, system commands, and
more. PUD (Portable Unix Documentation) is shipped with zoem. It provides
two mini-languages for authoring manpages and FAQ documents.

Changes: Zoem is now licensed under the GNU General Public License version
3 (or later). The bottom user dictionary functions as a global namespace,
and syntax exists to access this global namespace directly. A macro \set#3
was added that provides the modalities of existing set variants (optional
warning and expansion) as well as additional modalities. The primitive
\done was reimplemented as \throw{done} and \throw{done} can be be used to
cleanly cut processing in a variety of ways. Two example solutions to the
N-queen problem illustrate various zoem capabilities.

About: There are many photo-gallery programs available. Zoph is different,
as it concentrates on the management of large collection of photos instead
of just showing them on the Web. It can store a lot of information about
your photos, including the regular EXIF info, photographer, location,
title, description, rating, and the people in the photo. Photos can appear
in multiple albums and categories. Additional features include search,
slideshows, lightboxes, email, access privileges, and multiple languages.

Changes: This release fixes a fixes a few small bugs. Most important is
the fix for a non-working SQL install script. [TO EDITOR] Tar/GZ is
