  by DaveB (http://freshmeat.net/users/dbulmore/)
  Thu, Jul 26th 2007 09:11

Database
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: jPersist is an extremely powerful object-relational database
persistence API that manages to avoid the need for configuration and
annotation; mapping is automatic. It uses JDBC, and can work with any
relational database and any type of connection resource. It uses
information obtained from the database to handle mapping between the
database and Java objects, so mapping configuration is not needed, and
annotation is not needed. In fact, there is no configuration needed at
all.

Changes: This release has several fixes, including a small fix in table
loading (MetaData). Calculating checksum now involves only matching
columns. An exception is thrown for databases that don't support
auto-generated keys when changing to persistent state.

[034] - MirBSD Korn Shell R30
  by mirabile (http://freshmeat.net/users/mirabile/)
  Thu, Jul 26th 2007 23:01

System :: Shells

About: The MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of
pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell), aimed at producing a shell good for
interactive use, but with primary focus on scripting. It is intended to be
portable to most *nix-like operating systems as long as they're not too
obscure. mksh incorporates improvements from OpenBSD and Debian, as well
as bugfixes and enhancements developed for the MirOS and FreeWRT projects.
The emacs command line editing mode is UTF-8 capable, and Byte Order Marks
are ignored in scripts. The shell supports large files, as well as all
pdksh and some csh, AT&T ksh, and GNU bash features, is compatible with
the Bourne shell and POSIX (within limits, but you can turn off brace
expansion), has no limit on array sizes, and incorporates some other
useful builtins and features. While being already fast and small (without
losing functionality), flags to make it even smaller can be given at
compile time. An interactive shell reads "~/.mkshrc" on startup.

Changes: Packagers should read the information at
http://www.mirbsd.org/mksh.htm#upgrade. mksh can now be built on more
platforms, such as AIX, and with a lot of vendor compilers (Intel, Sun,
IBM, Microsoft, Borland, Digital Mars, HP) in addition to gcc. Some
constructs from GNU bash are supported. The code and build system got
cleaned up, fixed, and improved further. Large file support on some OSes
and POSIX compatibility got better.

[038] - Network PDF Server YAFPC-Appliance 4.00
  by Wolfgang Ullrich (http://freshmeat.net/users/ullrich/)
  Thu, Jul 26th 2007 11:02

About: YAFPC-Appliance is a browser based management frontend for the PDF
composer/printer/Mailer YAFPC. It comes with the General-Purpose Appliance
System on a bootable CD in combination with an easy to use installation
script. Once installed, any PC booted from this CD image can act as a PDF
print server that provides an unlimited number of network shared virtual
PDF printers. The system requirements are low; any older PC can be used.
System configuration can be done via a Web browser from any workstation in
the network. Virtual shared printers can be configured to apply
letterheads, watermarks, cover pages, and appendixes to all printed
documents. After printing, a document is sent to its owner by mail, can be
accessed in a shared folder on the server, or can be stored in a shared
network folder on some other machine.

Changes: A new "Install to Disk" function was added. The system can run as
a live CD, installed on a hard disk, or in a virtual machine now. The file
naming option for virtual printers can be set up to suppress original file
extensions in document titles.

[042] - Php Object Generator 3.0
  by joel (http://freshmeat.net/users/joelwan/)
  Thu, Jul 26th 2007 09:30

Database
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: PHP Object Generator (POG) is a PHP code generator which generates
clean and tested object oriented code for your PHP4/PHP5 application. It
is meant to eliminate the time a PHP programmer often wastes on repetitive
coding of the database access layer of an application simply because
different applications require different objects. By generating PHP
objects with integrated CRUD methods, POG saves you from writing and
testing SQL queries.

Changes: POG now fetches result set arrays where possible (which provides
a big performance boost). Data encoding is handled within the database. A
new plugin interface is used. A data encoding sanity check was added to
setup. Siblings can be deleted without deleting children. Getlist()
accepts column names as filters. Getlist(), GetChild(), and GetSibling()
return all results if no arguments are passed. A database wrapper class
for PDO was added. The PDO performance was improved. The plugin API, POG
base API, and database API were made uniform to prevent plugin versioning.

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux iptables
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of
the packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of
suspicious scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting
algorithm used by p0f.

Changes: A --gnuplot mode was added so that psad can output data that is
suitable for plotting with gnuplot. The ability to negate match conditions
on fields specified with the --CSV-fields argument was added. The
Storable-2.16 module was added along with the --use-store-file argument so
that in --gnuplot mode the Gnuplot data can be stored on disk and retrieved
quickly. --analysis-fields was added so the iptables log messages that are
parsed in -A mode can be restricted to those that meet certain criteria.

in the d20 game system plugin. Scripts were added to all SRD classes
reflecting the number of daily spell slots a character receives at each
level. The d20 character editor Spells page now has a functional Prepared
Spells tab that allows you to allocate your available spell slots based on
the contents of your known spell list. A few other minor enhancements
related to spellcasters were added to the character editor. The Dice Bag
tool plugin now has support for working with multiple Dice Bags.

[054] - XINS 2.1-alpha2 (Development)
  by Anthony Goubard (http://freshmeat.net/users/agoubard/)

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: It is now possible to start APIs using 'java -jar <api name>.war'
even if XINS is not installed. It is possible to accept or deny requests
based on the calling convention used together with the ACL. The internal
Servlet container can accept multiple requests at the same time. The
generated build.xml is now much smaller. This release also includes
various improvements in the generated OpenDocument format.

Office/Business :: Groupware

About: zOGI (ZideStore OpenGroupware Interface) is an OpenGroupware.org
ZideStore bundle which provides a simple and consistent XML-RPC API to the
server's groupware and collaboration functions.

Changes: A fix in the EOGlobalID cache prevents a segfault when the object
ID is not valid. The cache now also caches nonexistent object IDs. A bug
that caused a database exception when telephone entities were sent to
putObject without an "info" attribute was corrected.

[057] - ZIG 2.0.0
  by Fabio Reis Cecin (http://freshmeat.net/users/frcecin/)

Games/Entertainment
Internet

About: ZIG is a portable, game-oriented client-server networking and
execution framework written in C++. It can be used together with other
engines or libraries that supply graphics, game physics, etc. in order to
implement a full multiplayer game engine. Its goal is to provide an
easy-to-use yet powerful game networking engine so that game developers
won't feel the need to write networking engines from scratch using
low-level  APIs such as sockets.

Changes: This release brings about two years of bugfixes and enhancements,
plus documentation rewritten from scratch. It includes SCTP-like transport
of multiple message streams through a single ZIG client-server connection.
Each stream enforces a message ordering that is independent of other
streams. The ZIG streams also allow you to control bandwidth use (if you
want to) and to mix reliable and unreliable messages on the same stream.
