Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Ampache is a Web-based audio file manager. It allows you to view,
edit, and play your audio files via the Web. It has support for playlists,
artist and album views, album art, random play, playback via HTTP with
on-the-fly transcoding and downsampling, vote based playback, playback via
MPD and Icecast, an integrated Flash player, and per-user themes and song
play tracking. You can also link multiple Ampache servers together using
XML-RPC. Ampache supports gettext translations and has full translations
into many languages.
Changes: This is the first release of the 3.4 branch. It is a complete
rewrite of Ampache into native PHP 5 code. This is an alpha release, and
does not have Localplay, Democratic Play, or Searching enabled. As such,
this is not recommended for people who are running Ampache in a production
environment, or have need of the Localplay functionality.

by unDEFER (http://freshmeat.net/users/undefer/)
Sun, Jul 29th 2007 16:35
System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools
About: anyfs-tools allows you to recover and convert filesystems while
using minimal extra disk space. Unlike other recovery tools, anyfs-tools
doesn't copy all the files found on other disks (or partitions), but only
saves information about the location of the file blocks to an external
inode table. After recovery, a user may mount the damaged filesystem with
anyfs and the external inode table and then interact with all recovered
files with any program.
Changes: Support for converting from ntfs-3g with anyconvertfs was added.
anysurrect was optimized to work with large filesystems. Anyfs building
with kernel version >=2.6.19 and some other building bugs were fixed. An
I/O buffer bug in anysurrect (introduced in 0.84.10) was fixed. The -s
option to list sparse files on a filesystem was added to the build_it
utility.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: BFilter is a smart filtering HTTP proxy. Its primary purpose is
removing banner ads. Unlike the majority of similar tools, it doesn't rely
on a list of blocked URLs, but instead parses HTML on the fly, and detects
ads using a set of heuristic rules. BFilter has a built-in Javascript
engine that detects js-generated ads.
Changes: This release caches external scripts it fetches for analyzing. A
number of minor improvements were made.

Sun, Jul 29th 2007 16:48
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
About: DynaStop is a utility to examine IPv4 based addresses for Exim and
procmail for the purpose of filtering based upon patterns defined by the
administrator. This can be a pivotal factor in email filtering and server
load management, since dynamic IP addresses are typically used for
dial-up, DHCP, and DSL accounts. All of which have a designated mail
exchange server through which all outbound mail flows as defined with
many, if not most, large Internet service providers.
Changes: stdin mode would break and eat messages if DynaStop could not
connect to the DynaWall server. This has been fixed. The copyright display
has been updated so that it doesn't take up an acre of screen space. The
example conf files and documentation have been updated.

Sun, Jul 29th 2007 08:04
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Documentation
Software Development :: Documentation
About: gjots lets you organize text notes in a convenient, hierarchical
way. It can be used for notes, jottings, bits and pieces, recipes, and
even PINs and passwords, using encryption. It can also be used to
"mind-map" larger compositions like manuals, Web pages, articles, etc. It
is a bit like the KDE program "kjots", but uses the GTK library and
supports a hierarchy of folders. Files can be output to HTML with an
automatic table of contents or to docbook XML. Encryption is supported
with ccrypt(1), gpg(1), and openssl(1), so that musings can be kept
private.
Changes: On double-clicking an HTTP[S] URL, a browser is sought and run.
The "New Page" and "Open" buttons were removed from the top toolbar as
they are not the most useful. The coverage of the manual was improved a
little. A script to simplify printing a bit (gjots2lpr) was added. If
you've used an older version of gjots2, you are advised to replace the
print command in the preferences dialog to "gjots2lpr". Glade-3 is now
used for the UI, which fixed the problems in the toolbar and menu icons. A
problem when constructing the manual file name was fixed.

About: GraphicsMagick is a robust collection of tools and libraries which
support reading, writing, and manipulating an image in over 90 major
formats including popular formats like TIFF, JPEG, JPEG-2000,PNG, PDF,
PhotoCD, SVG, and GIF. A high-quality 2D renderer is included, which
provides a subset of SVG capabilities. C, C++, Perl, Tcl, and Ruby are
supported. Originally based on ImageMagick, GraphicsMagick focuses on
performance, minimizing bugs, and providing stable APIs and ABIs. It runs
on all modern variants of Unix, Windows, and Mac OS X.
Changes: A huge number of security and stability fixes are applied in this
release, resolving known outstanding security concerns noted in prior
releases. The most significant security fixes are a substantial change to
the way external programs are executed to in order to prevent arbitrary
shell code insertion, elimination of unvalidated filenames as a vsnprintf
format specifier, and many heap, stack, and integer overflow bugs found
with the parsers for various file formats. This version is recommended for

Sun, Jul 29th 2007 16:43
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging
About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.
Changes: Fixes to be.file, such that it can now be used in multi-instance
mode even on platforms that do not have atomic integer operations.
Compatibility with STLSoft 1.9.3.

[036] - SRESI 0.19.9 (Development)
by Priscus (http://freshmeat.net/users/priscus/)
Sun, Jul 29th 2007 06:05
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.
Changes: The tagged bookmarks set is now completely built off the Tag.ml
functors. The selection pattern had to be adapted to fit the new design.
The cloud management functions can now be called from standard SRESI, not
just the PHP-enabled variant.

[039] - Zort 1.1.0
by CJ (http://freshmeat.net/users/darkglassdolleyes/)
Sun, Jul 29th 2007 17:11
About: Zort is a Web-based RSS aggregator based on MagpieRSS. It features
a clean, minimal interface, some nice CSS/Javascript to hide
feeds/categories you don't want to look at, and all the usual caching,
etc., you'd expect from a MagpieRSS-based app. By default, all feeds are
returned on a single page. It does not feature a database backend, support
for multiple users, a set of administrative screens, an authentication
system of any kind, or flagging of RSS items as read/saved/etc., nor is it
likely to include those things in the future. It was written in a very
minimalistic frame of mind, and such features are on an explicit "do not
support" list.
Changes: Attachment support (podcasts, etc.). A "Loading" screen while
feeds are being loaded. HTML sanitization using HTML Tidy. Greater control
over feed display (number of items, displayed title, etc.). Better config
file examples and flexibility. Many other minor appearance tweaks and
changes.
