Communications
System :: Archiving
System :: Emulators
About: ADTPro transfers disks to and from Apple II computers and the
modern world using any of these communications methods: serial/USB, UDP
via theA2RetroSystems Uthernet card, or audio via the Apple's cassette
ports. ADTPro has comprehensive bootstrapping support for otherwise
diskless Apples. The home page includes extensive tutorials for getting
started.
Changes: This release has been enhanced with Jean-Marc Boutillon
(Deckard)'s FASTDSK fast Disk II reading routines. This results in a speed
boost of 25%-33% for Disk II to host transfers. Bootstrapping operations
have been reduced, as there is no longer a dependency on ProDOS BASIC.

Database
Database :: Front-Ends
About: The dbmstools module exists mainly for developers who need to
support applications on more than one database management system (DBMS).
It's intended to allow all the database information (schema and base data)
to be kept in one single place, and to have DBMS-specific scripts (for
creating and populating the database schema, and upgrading from one
version to the next) generated from that data. It can generate schema
documentation for any DBMS (including diagrams), and can export data from
a database in several formats. It also has wrappers for several tools so
that they can be run from within Apache Ant. It supports PostgreSQL 7 and
8, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and Hypersonic (limited support).
Changes: This version improves the db2sql script, which exports data from
a database. New output formats are now supported: text, CSV, TSV, and XML.
The script runs much faster. Memory use when exporting large tables on
Postgres has been dramatically reduced. A few other minor enhancements
have been made.

[011] - Distributed Network John The Ripper 0.2.5
by John (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnev6/)
Sun, Aug 12th 2007 12:10
Security :: Cryptography
About: Dnetj is a client/server wrapper around John The Ripper that allows
the use of a central server and any number of cracking nodes, in much the
same way setiathome or distributed.net works. The server loads a set of
password hashes, and splits the available keyspace into "work units" of a
configurable size. The clients connect and retrieve the hashes, as well as
a set of work units to process. Once a client has processed some work
units, it connects back to the server to submit the completed units as
well as any passwords that have been cracked.
Changes: Basic functionality is implemented, and dnetj is usable, but
there are many things still to be implemented and a lot more testing is
needed.

Text Editors
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: Esperantilo ("Tool for Esperanto") is a UTF-8 editor with
linguistics functions for the language Esperanto, and is also a system for
computer aided translation. It contains a spell checker and grammar checker
for the Esperanto language. It can translate Esperanto text in different
formats into Polish, German, and English. It also supports computer aided
translation by interactive machine translation. Translation memory can be
used also for any language pairs. It is an XLIFF editor. It supports XLIFF
and TMX (Level 1) formats. Machine translation uses direct translation at
syntax level (dictionary-based translation with some grammar
transformations).
Changes: The user interface for semiautomatic translation was redesigned
and rewritten. The program contains a new dictionary user interface, which
is directly embedded into the editor area. The searching of a translation
is faster now. The quality of grammatical correction and computer
translation into the Polish language was improved.

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Filesystems
System :: Networking
About: FSFS is a secure, distributed, scalable, user-space file system
that exports existing directories securely over the network, letting users
store and retrieve encrypted data in a transparent way. FSFS is written as
a pair of user space daemons that act as clients and servers. Servers
export an existing file system (of virtually any kind) to clients over the
network.
Changes: This release fixes two bugs. One bug related to socket creation
and would cause problems on some systems (namely OpenSUSE 10.2). The other
bug related to server configuration creation when using the Python
configuration utilities. Users don't need to upgrade to this release if
they're not experiencing problems or are not using the Python
configuration utilities.

[020] - htmlcxx 0.82
by Davi de Castro Reis (http://freshmeat.net/users/davi/)
Sun, Aug 12th 2007 00:14
Software Development :: Libraries
About: htmlcxx is a simple non-validating CSS1 and HTML parser for C++.
The parsing politics attempt to mimic the behavior of Mozilla Firefox, so
you should expect parse trees similar to those created by Firefox.
However, it does not insert nonexistent stuff in your HTML. Therefore,
serializing the DOM tree gives exactly the same output as the original
HTML document. Another key feature is an STL-like tree navigation API
provided by the tree.hh template library.

by Christian Grothoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/grothoff/)
Sun, Aug 12th 2007 03:37
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: libmicrohttpd is a small C library for embedding HTTP server
functionality into other applications. It is reentrant, fast, supports
HTTP 1.1, and permits listening on multiple ports. The API is simple and
still powerful enough to allow programmers to use the entire HTTP feature
set.
Changes: This release fixes a potential crash during handling of pipelined

Sun, Aug 12th 2007 00:06
System :: Hardware
About: linHDD is a frontend to several functions of basic Linux drive
utilities: hdparm, cfdisk, df, and mkfs. It can be used to partition and
format a drive as ext2, ext3, Reiserfs, JFS, or XFS (depending upon what
your kernel supports). It can also add a second drive, display free space
and extended drive information, and test read speed.
Changes: In addition to IDE drives, linHDD.py now supports use with SATA
drives and USB sticks, formatting the latter to vfat (FAT32) if desired. A
modified version of fdisk (abs_fdisk) is now used for finding drive
information. This version runs as a normal user (not just root) but is not
able to write any changes to the disk. It does not change your installed
version of fdisk. Source modifications are included in the downloads if
wanted, but the compiled abs_fdisk will likely work on most newer

[037] - WnDO 0.7
by Steve Cooper (http://freshmeat.net/users/coops222/)

Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: Fluxbox
About: WnDO (formerly Fbdo) is a small suite of complementary tools for
adding behavioral extensions to Gnome, Xfce, Fluxbox, and other window
managers. WnDO offers a plugin platform for tweaking the desktop
environment. It focuses on modifying behavior, rather than adding desktop
widgets. It has minimal dependencies, other than Python. Included modules
handle window alignment, simple window tiling, process management,
wallpaper management, and custom keyboard shortcuts. Wallpaper management
capabilities include per-workspace and randomly-selected wallpaper. It
performs its own key grabbing in order to avoid interaction and conflict
with the equivalent window manager facility. It requires CmDO.
Changes: Unified automatic setup now handles Gnome, Xfce, and Fluxbox.
This release performs key grabbing to avoid window manager conflicts and
reconfiguration. It also allows custom general purpose key shortcuts. It
inherits the prompted execution feature from CmDO 0.7, which is required.
Xfce wallpaper setup has been fixed.

Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals
About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for
example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will
use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.
Changes: The script for installing a man page in a UTF- 8 locale has been
