Software Development :: Libraries
About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that helps you develop and deploy high-performance
networked applications faster and with less code to write and maintain.
ACE is especially useful for systems that use network and/or inter-process
communications and that take advantage of multithreading. While the ACE
source code is free, that's not the only way you save money with ACE.
ACE's wrappers and higher-level patterns help you develop your software
quickly and portably, helping you to complete your projects on time and
within budget.
Changes: This release adds support for OpenVMS 8.3 on IA-64, CodeGear C++
Builder 2007 Update 2. It adds support for building CIAO statically with
Microsoft Visual C++. It has improved autoconf support on all platforms,
and added support for Intel C++ 10.0. It adds a new interface that allows
monitoring of activities within the Notification Service. The footprint of
the system has been reduced. There are numerous bugfixes.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development
About: Advanced Website Creator is a Web development environment. Created
websites use an MVC framework written in PHP 5 and a simple database
abstraction layer. At present the database layer supports MySQL,
PostgreSQL, and SQLite as backends. All PHP classes are auto-loaded, so
there is no need to include() or require() files manually. Search engine
friendly URLs are supported via mod_rewrite. The program has wizards for
quick generation of forms and CRUD pages.
Changes: HTML code generated by the runtime framework was changed to be
XML 1.1 compliant. List values no longer have a 64 character length limit.
Several bugs in the VADE wizard that could cause it to generate incorrect
code were fixed. A bug in the FORM wizard that could prevent it from
correctly displaying error messages was fixed.

[013] - GNU ddrescue 1.6-pre4 (Development)
by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
Thu, Sep 6th 2007 06:35
System :: Recovery Tools
About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.
Changes: This version skips faster over damaged areas after two
consecutive errors have been encountered. A new "Fill Mode" chapter has
been added to the manual. A major code reorganization was undertaken.

About: irrKlang is a high level 2D and 3D cross platform sound engine and
audio library that plays WAV, MP3, OGG, MOD, XM, IT, S3M, and other file
formats. It can be used by C++ and all .NET languages (C#, Visual
Basic.NET, etc.). It has all of the features common to low-level audio
libraries as well as lots of useful features like a sophisticated
streaming engine, extendable audio reading, single and multi-threading
modes, 3D audio emulation for low-end hardware, a plugin system, multiple
rolloff models, sound effects, and more. All of these can be accessed via
an extremely simple API using an object oriented design.
Changes: This release adds sound preloading, the possibility to change

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: JPPF is a computational grid framework for Java focused on
performance and ease of use. It provides a set of tools and APIs to enable
the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and distribute their
execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It features platform
independence thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your
application classes to a server, scales up to millions of nodes, has a
built-in fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.
Changes: JPPF is now integrated with JMX, and uses it to provide
administration and monitoring services. Monitoring capabilities have been
extended to the nodes as well as to the executed tasks. The Administration
console provides an extended view of the JPPF network. Critical issues were
fixed that would cause a node to crash in specific conditions.

access kernel address space directly. Unlike kernel modules, user programs
are executed as ordinary processes (except for their privilege level), so
scheduling and paging are performed as usual. Although it seems dangerous,
the safety of the kernel can be ensured through such methods as static type

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
About: Minirok is a small music player for the K Desktop Environment. As
its name hints, it's modelled after Amarok, but with a reduced set of
features. In particular, it is designed to cover all the needs and wishes
of the author, leaving everything else out. The look and feel is almost
identical to Amarok's, though. The main interface is a tree view of the
filesystem, with a playlist that can only be populated via drag and drop.
There is no collection built from tags, so it's targeted at people whose
collections are already structured in a tree at the filesystem level.
Searches can be performed both in the tree view and the playlist.
Changes: This release introduces random mode, repeat track or playlist,
and the ability to add tracks to an existing Minirok instance both from

[029] - RAPPTOR 0.9
by elzebo (http://freshmeat.net/users/elzebo/)
Thu, Sep 6th 2007 06:20
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Wiki
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: RAPPTOR is a semantic technologies-enabled Web application server
for the .Net platform. It integrates relational, hierarchical, and even
semantic data structures into a common API and offers broad DBMS
connectivity through pluggable drivers. It is designed for rapid
application development, a code-driven development style, and
platform-independence (Mono and MS .Net 1.0/1.1/2.0/3.0).
Changes: The new release includes a complete redesign of the data handling
system, the theming system and an Add-In Manager to standardize the way
user content modules are added to the interface. RAPPTOR now makes
extensive use of Semantic Web technologies, allowing for the integration
of Ontologies as data sources and a querying system based entirely on RDF
graph matching.

[031] - sudo 1.6.9p5
by Todd Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/courtesan/)
Thu, Sep 6th 2007 10:51
About: Sudo (su "do") allows a system administrator to give certain users
(or groups of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands as root
while logging all commands and arguments. Sudo operates on a per-command
basis, it is not a replacement for the shell.
Changes: This release fixes a bug in the IP address matching introduced by
the IPV6 merge. It also fixes a bug that prevented sudoedit from creating
new files. The visudo command, when used with the -f flag, will now use
the permissions of the original file being edited, which makes it possible
to use visudo with sudoers files kept under revision control. Groups and
netgroups are now valid in an LDAP sudoRunas statement. The configure
script has been updated to work with the latest autoconf and libtool.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: view3dscene is a viewer for VRML 1.0, VRML 2.0 (aka VRML 97), 3DS,
and MD3 files. It supports viewing the scene in the "Examine" mode and
walking in the virtual world with features such as collision detection and
gravity. Rendering is done using OpenGL. A built-in ray-tracer allows the
generation of images with more effects (like shadows and mirrors) and
conforming precisely to the VRML 97 lighting specification. The program
can also convert files from 3DS format to VRML 1.0 and pretty-print VRML
files.
Changes: A crash when removing a geometry node from a VRML 2.0 hierarchy
was fixed. Jagged animation when "world time" grows really large was
fixed. Messing the gravity "up" vector when reopening the scene was fixed.
