  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 06:50

Multimedia :: Graphics
Security
Security :: Cryptography

About: DIIT provides a simple tool that can hide a message inside a 24-bit
colour image so that knowing how it was embedded, or performing statistical
analysis, does not make it any easier to find the concealed information. It
also provides a framework for implementing other steganography algorithms
for use in the tool.

Changes: DIRT is an implementation of Shai Avidan and Ariel Shamir's "Seam
Carving for Content Aware Image Resizing" algorithms. It allows you to
remove and add seams to an image, resizing it in a non-uniform manner.
DIRT uses the filter algorithms from DIIT to find the seams.

  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 03:36

Database :: Front-Ends
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: EFEU is suitable for handling data cubes, which are especially
useful for building data warehouses. It consists of a building system
including mkmf (a xmkmf like Makefile generator), esh (a powerful C/C++
interpreter), efeudoc (a document generator with different output formats
(LaTeX, HTML, roff, etc.)). EFEU has a huge set of C library core
features, including robust memory allocation tools, functions to
concatenate and copy strings with memory allocation, buffers for
dynamically-growing strings and fields, data structures with reference
counters and garbage collection, and file tools that allow you to specify
pipes wherever a filename is expected and support automatic implementation
of (de)compression filters (gzip) depending on filename extensions. It also
includes a high-level interface to files, strings, and anything else you
can read from or write to.

Changes: Enhancements were made to the EDB concept. The extern keyword was
added to load additional data types implicitly from shared objects to the
efeu interpreter. Transparent access to members of C data structures and
better support for bitfields were implemented.

About: Executable files may be linked statically or dynamically.
Dynamically linked executables use less disk space and memory, but
require appropriative dynamic libraries present in order to run. ELF
statifier make one executable file with no run-time dependencies from a
dynamically linked executable and all its libraries. This file can be
copied and run on another machine with no need for all of the libraries.

Changes: A bug that was fixed in 1.6.11 (prelinked ld-linux + memory

About: FreeVMS is an OpenVMS-like operating system which can run on
several architectures like i386, PPC, Alpha, and many others. It consists
of a POSIX kernel and a DCL command line interpreter. The only
architectures currently supported are i386 and x86-64.

Changes: Bliss is now version 0.211. The terminal driver needed its own
spinlocks. The Sys$qiow system service did not do everything from the
right mode. Exe$forkdpsth did not set proper ipl. Ioc$iopost lost irps
posted on the non-primary CPU due to the softint running on the primary
CPU; exe$finishio and exe$abortio were changed. Exe$finishio and
exe$abortio did not set proper ipl. RMS file resources got used up, now
file descriptor reference count is added. Ioc$iopost remqhi had problems
with spinlocks, so it was changed to global_cli. Memory management
look_aside_list needed spinlocks.

  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 06:02

Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
Education :: Testing

About: Fresh Memory is an educational tool for studying foreign words or
terms from a specific domain. The application manages a set of
dictionaries, which can be loaded, created, modified, and saved. The user
can take several types of tests on basis of the loaded dictionary. The
main tests are flash cards and multiple choice test. These tests will help
to memorize new words or refresh old ones. The application works with
Unicode characters (UTF-8) and therefore is not restricted to Latin
letters.

Changes: Cards or rows may be inserted and removed. Cards may be cut,
copied, and pasted with the system clipboard. Cards may be found with all
standard find options, with regular expressions, and with a Find Again
action. Icons were added to buttons and windows. An About dialog was
added. The --version and -v options were added. Options were added to the
project file to enable the following commands: "make release", "make
install", and "make release install". A lot of bugs were fixed.

[022] - GluCat 0.3.0
  by Paul C. Leopardi (http://freshmeat.net/users/leopardi/)
  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 10:47

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GluCat is a library of template classes that model the universal
Clifford algebras over the field of real numbers, with arbitrary dimension
and arbitrary signature. It implements a model of each Clifford algebra
corresponding to each non-degenerate quadratic form up to a maximum set by
the user. GluCat classes are designed to be used as template parameters for
other template libraries, such as Blitz++, deal.II, Matrix Template
Library, and POOMA.

Changes: Two errors lurking in versions 0.0.1 through 0.2.3 have been
fixed. The inner product was wrong. According to the definition, a & b ==
0 if either a or b is a scalar. In previous versions of GluCat, this was
not necessarily true. The lexicographical ordering of index sets was
wrong. This affected the ordering of terms.

Communications :: Ham Radio

About: HamExam is a short Perl script that generates self scoring DHTML
practice tests as a study aid to prepare for the US Amateur radio
licensing exam. These practice tests are generated from a random subset of
questions from a master question pool. Your score is calculated and your
grade reported using client side JavaScript. Wrong questions are
highlighted. It strives to be simple to use and very easy to install.It
should run well under Apache's mod_perl and can be used on the command
line as well. The input files use a simple XML format, so any exam that
follows the same multiple choice format subdividing question into into
categories ("subelements" in amateur radio parlance) should be trivially
adaptable.

Changes: XML input files are supplied for all three exam types
(Technician, General, and Extra).

  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 03:52

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: MicroNova YUZU is an EL-based JSP tag library designed to augment
JSTL and transform JSP into a powerful XML-style "scripting language"
(compatible with both JSP 1.2 and 2.0). Features include: stackable
(nestable beyond tagfile boundaries) tags, nestable/encodable map with
XML/JSON support, "codec" functions, structured param with file
upload/select/radio support, "subroutine" call returning non-string
Object, dynamic embedded EL pattern evaluation for regular text and SQL
queries, HTTP client and response control, an HTML-to-DOM parser,
multipart email and mailbox, dynamic method
invocation/iterator/map/resource message map, and more. All YUZU tags
follow a single behavioral pattern (prepare, import, default, process,
assign, export) for ease of learning and extension.

Changes: A "source" attribute was added to non-map tags for bean
initialization. Evaluation of the "source" attribute by adding a "@"
prefix was enabled. The "@{...}" expression is now accepted as a JSON
token without quoting by default. Support was added for Queue to Bean:set
and Bean:get. CodecFunctionMapper now returns null when prefix is empty.
Underscored variables (e.g. "_operand") were moved to the request scope.
Bean:getInfo, Bean:getMap, and Bean:fill codecs were added. m:value
behavior was fixed. _JSP:setResponse and _JSP:isCalled codecs were added.

  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 10:56

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Nuface is a Web-based administration tool that generates Edenwall,
NuFW, or simple Netfilter firewall rules. It features a high level
abstraction on the security policy set by the administrator, and works
internally on an XML data scheme. Its philosophy is to let you agglomerate
subjects, resources, or protocols into meta-objects, and use those meta
objects to generate ACLs, which are then interpreted as netfilter rules by
Nupyf, the internal XML parser. This tool may easily be extended to support
firewall implementations other than Netfilter.

Changes: VPN (ipsec) networks (type "mark") are now supported in ACLs.
There is a tiny bugfix regarding session problems when unloading/reloading

About: OpenSC consists of tools and libraries and a PKCS#11 module to use
smart cards and initialize blank smart cards. It supports many commercial
smart cards with filesystems, many national ID cards (read only), and some
Java Card cards with specific Java Card applets. OpenSC implements the
PKCS#15 standard. Cards initialized with OpenSC can be used (read-only)
with other software implementing PKCS#15 standard and vice versa.

Changes: This version now works with some CardOS M4 cards initialized with
Siemens software by implementing their hack to sign using the RSA decrypt
function. Unfortunately, this broke some other CardOS M4 cards initilaized
with other software. If your card stops working, you should send a report

  by Paul A. Rombouts (http://freshmeat.net/users/parombouts/)
  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 10:48

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: pdnsd is a Proxy DNS server for Linux and FreeBSD that is designed
to cope with unreacheable nameservers (e.g. because the dial-in link is
not up) in a graceful manner to prevent DNS-dependent applications like
Netscape from hanging. It has a permanent disk cache and supports parallel
query and a wide variety of link uptests. It also has the ability to serve
some local records.

Changes: A bug has been fixed that caused pdnsd to handle NXDOMAIN replies
inefficiently. The code that implements the ping test has been fixed for
64-bit systems. A new option can be used to give each server in a section
of the configuration file an equal chance of being queried. New options
make it possible to check whether the replies of name servers contain
certain IP addresses and if so reject these replies. The pdnsd-ctl 'add'
commands now allow multiple IP addresses to be specified for the same
name. pdnsd's ability to resolve from root servers has been improved.

[054] - Postoffice 1.4.3a
  by Orc (http://freshmeat.net/users/fmOrc/)
  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 22:30

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents

About: Postoffice is a simple SMTP mail server and client written with
spam blocking in mind. It provides a greylist to slow down the rate of
incoming spam, and can be configured to do antivirus checking on incoming
mail either via the sendmail milter protocol or a traditional hard-coded
AV program. Postoffice can be configured to deliver mail to accounts
inside vm-pop3d-style virtual domains, and it can further be enabled to
support AUTH LOGIN for people inside virtual domains, so they can use
postoffice as a mail forwarder when replying to mail. Postoffice accepts
(and ignores) many of the same command line options that are passed to
sendmail, and it comes with the usual crop of sendmail compatable aliases;
runq, mailq, newaliases, and sendmail.

Changes: The junkfolder (now spam) configuration option was cleaned up and
documented.

  Mon, Sep 10th 2007 10:51

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: WordPress is a state-of-the-art, semantic, personal publishing
platform with a focus on aesthetics, Web standards, and usability. It was
born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal
publishing system, and is the official successor to b2/cafelog. While
primarily geared towards functioning as a Weblog, it is also a flexible
CMS capable of managing many types of Web sites. In addition to the basic
Weblog functions, it also has an integrated link manager (e.g. for
blogrolls), XFN support, support for "static" pages, Atom and RSS feeds
for both content and comments, XML-RPC blogging API support (Blogger,
MetaWeblog, and Movable Type APIs), spam blocking features, advanced
cruft-free URL generation, a flexible theme system, and an advanced plugin
API.

Changes: This release contains a security update, along with more minor
defect fixes. The security patch affects sites with multiple post authors,
and prevents unprivileged authors from bypassing the normal filters that
strip harmful input from posts. Other changes include a validation fix for
RSS2 comment feeds, some XML-RPC bugfixes, and a plugin activation hook fix
for Windows-based installations.
