By now, most of us have received rather a large amount of email in the
course of our net.lives. The packrats among us have kept rather a large
amount of that large amount, and have occasionally been vindicated by the
ability to pull out a 1991 message to prove who really suggested that trip
to the cineplex to see "Cool as Ice". But how many failed attempts have we
made to organize these decades of data?

[009] - GTK-VNC 0.2.0
by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
Sat, Sep 15th 2007 02:11
Software Development :: Libraries
About: GTK-VNC is a VNC viewer widget for GTK+. It is built using
coroutines, allowing it to be completely asynchronous while remaining
single threaded. It supports RFB protocols 3.3 through 3.8 and the
VeNCrypt authentication extension providing SSL/TLS encryption with x509
certificate authentication. The core library is written in C and a binding
for Python using PyGTK is available. The networking layer supports
connections over both IPv4 and IPv6. Example code illustrates how to build
a vncviewer replacement using either C or Python.
Changes: This release fixes compatibility with mixed endian client and
servers and BGR/RGB pixel format displays. Mixed colour depths are now
correctly accounted for and converted appropriately. Graceful shutdown is
now handled correctly. A widget destructor ensures that all resources are
freed when the widget is deleted. The two common client cursor offload
extensions are supported for compatability with OSX-VNC, UltraVNC, and
TightVNC. Support for Vino's TLS authentication method was added. Signals
were added for receiving notifications of desktop resize events and
authentication failures.

[010] - imbaluri 1.1.1
by Tillmann Heidsieck (http://freshmeat.net/users/jashugan/)
Sat, Sep 15th 2007 02:14
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: Imabluri takes a message from your SMTP server, runs virus and spam
checks on it, and does some marking and logging. Afterwards, it hands the
message over to your mailbox system or IMAP/POP3 server. A daemon approach
minimizes the system load. A very small client program actually takes the
mail from the SMTP server, writes it to your hard drive, and adds it to a
MySQL database. The daemon is polled after the client stores the message,
and tries to spawn a child process that does the actual checks. This
project replaces vislog, which will no longer be mantained.
Changes: A bug in the clean up section was fixed. Old mails are now really
deleted.

Software Development
About: JDemo provides a framework for demonstrating code for interactive
testing. It features many convenience classes and methods that make
implementing demos very easy.
Changes: The implementation has been updated to JDK 1.5. It now provides
improved compatibility to JUnit 4.4: There is a new JDemoSuiteClassRunner
for running demos as JUnit 4.4 tests. Also, a few bugs have been fixed and
a new plugin for Eclipse 3.3 (or greater) is available.

[012] - justniffer 0.1
by Oreste Notelli (http://freshmeat.net/users/onotelli/)
Sat, Sep 15th 2007 13:12
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: justniffer captures TCP packets, reassembles and reorders them,
performs IP packet defragmentation and displays the TCP flow in the
standard output. It is useful for logging network traffic in a "standard"
(Web server like) or in a customized way. It can log timings (e.g.
response time), which is useful for tracking network service performance.
The main differences with other sniffers is that it captures TCP/IP
traffic and handles all TCP/IP issues (reordering, retransmissions,
defragmentation), and that it reports timing information.

Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
About: Legends is a fast-paced first-person-perspective online multiplayer
game. It is designed to take advantage of the beautiful environments
available from the Torque engine it is based on, while still offering the
breakneck pacing and variety of styles available from such classics as
Quake and Tribes. The addition of a jetpack adds a new dimension to
mobility.
Changes: Minor weapon balances were done. Unlimited deployables are now
prevented. A few high server load issues were prevented. Cosmetic tweaks
were made to maps and chat HUD colors. All sorts of Linux installers are
now available and the bug tracker is working.

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Libapmath is a C++ arbitrary precision math library designed to be
as convenient as possible, besides performing well. The approach taken is
that of choosing names like those in <cmath> and implementing all
arithmetic by overloading of operators.
Changes: This release added a distinction between guaranteed accuracy and
operation precision, a square root algorithm that adapts to varying
precision, a new implementation of Karatsuba's multiplication, a new and
faster "paper-and-pen" division algorithm, new exponential and logarithm
functions, and new trigonometric functions.

[015] - Mailfilter 0.8.1 (Stable)
by Andreas Bauer (http://freshmeat.net/users/baueran/)
Sat, Sep 15th 2007 02:14
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: Mailfilter is a flexible utility to get rid of unwanted spam mails,
before having to go through the trouble of downloading them into the local
computer. It offers support for one or many POP accounts and is especially
useful for dialup connections via modem. You can define your own filters
(rules) to determine which e-mails should be delivered and which are
considered waste.

occasionally not be created, and the detection of the available getopt

various situations. It could be considered as an Object Relational Mapper

[034] - xjobs 20070915
by Thomas Maier-Komor (http://freshmeat.net/users/komor/)

System
Utilities
About: xjobs runs several jobs in parallel and limits the number of jobs
running at once so that every processor of the machine is busy, but not
overloaded. A batch of long-running processes invoked from the shell are
normally executed one after another, no matter how many processors are
available. xjobs allows batching those jobs while still keeping the
machine busy. The interface of xjobs is similar to that of xargs.
Changes: xjobs now reports the wall-clock execution time of every job.
