[002] - BloodsPilot Server 1.4.0
  by Kristian Söderblom (http://freshmeat.net/users/ksoderbl/)
  Sun, Sep 16th 2007 04:51

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: BloodsPilot Server is an optimized server for a 2D space game. It
is a new version of a classic Unix game, XPilot. It features a novel,
flicker free, high FPS view of the game, while preserving the original
game physics and playability. The server is dedicated to running maps
without extra items, instead focusing on running maps like "Blood's
Music", where ship control skills, teamplay and tactics matter most, as
well as possible. To play the game, the user must have an XPilot client to
connect to the server.

Changes: Ships don't get stuck in walls any more. Walls no longer "eat
turns", which improves near-wall ship control and fighting.

[012] - JChart2D 2.2.0
  by Achim Westermann (http://freshmeat.net/users/achimwestermann/)
  Sun, Sep 16th 2007 04:53

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Libraries

About: JChart2D is a Swing widget for precise runtime visualization of
numerical tuples in an x-y plot. It is easy to use and is designed for
runtime display. Unlike other charting tools that cover all kinds of views
(pie, bar, etc.), it just creates precise x-y plots. It is thread-safe, in
that many different threads in an application may each add data to plot. A
single chart may contain multiple different traces. It also features
automatic scaling, choice of unit, viewports (zooming), output to images
(png, jpeg), logarithmic axis, and custom rendering of datapoints (lines,
dots, discs, filled polygons).

Changes: This version fixes several bugs mostly related to UI updates in
case of user interactions. Some advanced features like an inverse axis, an
arithmetic mean trace, and API support for chains of computational traces
that calculate their values based upon the data of other master traces
have been added too.

  Sun, Sep 16th 2007 00:03

Education :: Testing

About: Kanatest is a Japanese kana (hiragana and katakana) simple
flashcard tool. It offers fourteen lessons and three drill modes:
hiragana, katakana, and mixed mode. The tool displays randomly selected
kana characters (respecting mode and lesson) and waits for the user answer
(expected as the romaji equivalent). This process continues until all
questions are answered or all questions are answered correctly (depending
on options). At the end of test, information about drilling time and
correctness ratio is displayed. The results are stored, and a user can
review his performance at any time.

Changes: A few enhancements in the user-defined lesson editor have been
made. A Russian translation was added.

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: RebeccaAIML is an enterprise cross platform AIML development
platform. RebeccaAIML supports C++, Java, C#, Python, and many other
programming languages. It allows AIML development out of the box.
RebeccaAIML also comes with an array of AIML administration tools, great
documentation, and an Eclipse AIML editor plugin.

Changes: Vastly improved international support across all programming
languages and tools. Dialects will work with the eclipse plugin and
rs-admin tool now. A bug where escaped XML elements such as < > were not
operating correctly has been fixed. This affected reversed AIML. Empty
conditionals have been enhanced: they will now correctly allow you to use
an empty string for a condition, and it will return true if the predicate
does not exist. A nasty bug has been fixed where if you had multiple stars
and multiple users, the program would return an empty false positive
string.

[027] - sifbuilder 1.10.13
  by solgracia (http://freshmeat.net/users/ejuarros/)
  Sun, Sep 16th 2007 21:12

About: sifbuilder is a program aiming to facilitate the declarative
definition and automatic generation of Web sites. It incorporates a
scriptable installation framework, an automatic installer, a package
management system, remote execution facilities, a declarative Web site
definition model based on XML, a module generator and a test environment.
The sif framework allows defining the core, modules, blocks and content of
a WCM site in an XML file. sifbuilder takes that file from a URI and
automatically downloads the packages and creates the site.

Changes: This release introduces the automatic generation of Drupal
modules based on the XML declarative definition of the target module's
data model.

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: SmokePing is a network latency monitor which works in a way that is
similar to MRTG. It measures network latency to a configurable set of
destinations on the network, and displays its findings in easy-to-read Web
pages. SmokePing has special support for monitoring hosts with dynamic IP
addresses. SmokePing uses RRDtool as its logging and graphing back-end,
making the system very efficient. The presentation of the data on the Web
is done through a CGI which creates graphs on demand.

Changes: Fixes for interactive zooming mode, std dev calculation, and
multi-host graphs.

Internet

About: Tairent is a minimalistic BitTorrent client for Linux servers. This
means that it has no GUI, TUI, or CLI. Instead, it provides an effective
way for serving large files using the BitTorrent protocol. One of the key
features is that Tairent tries to minimize data copying in memory by using
mmap for mapping files into memory and then sending them directly to the
peer.

Changes: The client strictly follows BitTorrent protocol specification;
other features will follow.

[034] - transcode 1.0.4
  by Francesco Romani (http://freshmeat.net/users/fromani/)
  Sun, Sep 16th 2007 11:41

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: transcode is a text console video-stream processing tool. It
supports elementary video and audio frame transformations. Some example
modules are included to enable import of MPEG-1/2, Digital Video, and
other formats. It also includes export modules for writing to AVI files
with DivX, OpenDivX, XviD, Digital Video or other codecs. Direct DVD
transcoding is also supported. A set of tools is available to extract and
decode the sources into raw video/audio streams for import and to enable
post-processing of AVI files.

Changes: Improved detection of MPEG streams: hard-coded defaults are not
used if the sequence header has incorrect data. IM filters are compatible
with IM 6.3.x with HDR. Pixel access is improved. The old GTK 1.x
requirement has been dropped. Compatibility with libmpeg3 1.7 is improved.
Compatibility with newer ffmpeg libraries is improved. There are trivial
warning reduction fixes. Encoder flush for the xvid module has been
implemented. There are tcxmlcheck input basic sanity checks.

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.

  Sun, Sep 16th 2007 04:03

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Websitary is a script that monitors Web pages, RSS feeds, and
podcasts and reports what's new. For many tasks, it reuses other programs
(such as w3m, diff, and webdiff) to do the actual work. By default, it
works on an ASCII basis, i.e. with the output of text-based Web browsers.
With the help of some friends, it can also work with HTML.

Changes: websitary now also deals with FTP directories and RSS feeds (and
it optionally saves attachments such as podcasts). Local copies are stored
in a directory tree in order to rebuild the file structure on the server
unless the filenames get too long, in which case MD5 encoded filenames are
used. The executable name has changed (the extra "i" was dropped).
Command-line options have changed. Many other changes were made.

[038] - Whole Platform 1.0.0.v20070912-1454
  by Riccardo Solmi (http://freshmeat.net/users/riccardo_solmi/)
  Sun, Sep 16th 2007 07:58

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The Whole Platform is a technology for engineering the production
of software. It provides a Language Workbench for developing new
languages, manipulating them using domain notations, and transforming them
using a generative model driven approach. The languages bundled with the
Whole Platform include: modeling languages; query and transformation
languages; integration languages for grammars, XSD, RDB, and Java
libraries; and popular languages such as Java and XML.

Changes: Two major themes have directed efforts for this milestone
release: to make the query and transformation languages effective enough
to begin using them instead of the underlying visitors and iterators
frameworks, and to automate integration with existing Java libraries.
