Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based
About: ASE is a program specially designed with facilities to create
sprites that can be used in some video games. It has its own features to
optimize the control with the Allegro game development library. This
program let you create characters with movement, textures, patterns,
backgrounds, logos, color palettes, etc. from static images.
Changes: Better "snap to grid" support was implemented for box-like tools
(rectangle, ellipse, etc.). Floating selection now also "snaps to grid".
Sub-pixel movement was added for zoomed-cursors in the editor. Better
support for the mouse wheel and middle button were provided in the
sprite-editor for scrolling and zooming. Saving as GIF is now fully
supported by default. Compilation with Allegro 4.2.3 SVN was fixed along
with a bug in Allegro with key_shifts. The full-screen or windowed state
is now remembered.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
About: AlphaMail is a mod_perl webmail system with a C++ middleware
component that is intended to make the system highly scalable. It supports
many Unix variants with any RFC-compliant IMAP server (including UW, Cyrus,
and Dovecot).
Changes: This release fixes an undocumented compile switch. It was
defaulting to disable UTF-8 search, which most installations want. A bug
in snippet decoding that was causing it to miss some base64 encoded data
has been fixed. Another mimeword issue has been fixed. This one requires a
patch to Mail-Tools to really be complete, since a bug was found in that
library.

Transport is arranged by helper programs, such as SSH. The PUSH transport
mode acts like a "reverse" NFS and makes it possible to export a

Changes: Unaligned accesses on sparc64 were fixed. Hardlinking always
returned ENOENT. A translation layer was added for open() flags since
these are not architecture-agnostic.

by IBM ICU Team (http://freshmeat.net/users/strcpy/)
Mon, Sep 17th 2007 10:52
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing
Text Processing :: General
About: ICU provides a Unicode implementation, with functions for
formatting numbers, dates, times, and currencies (according to locale
conventions, transliteration, and parsing text in those formats). It
provides flexible patterns for formatting messages, where the pattern
determines the order of the variable parts of the messages, and the format
for each of those variables. These patterns can be stored in resource files
for translation to different languages. Included are more than 100 codepage
converters for interaction with non-unicode systems.
Changes: This is a major release with new features, new APIs, and many
bugfixes in data and code. CLDR 1.5.0.1 includes many improvements. RBTZ
allows processing of RFC2445 VTIMEZONE. Time zone improvements give more
human readable results. Relative date/time formats in terms of
"yesterday", "today", "tomorrow". A flexible date/time generator gives
multiple date/time patterns valid for locales. Default time zone detection
is more accurate on Unix. Calendars support Taiwan, Indian, and Persian. A
freezable design pattern is supported. The span function iterates through
strings. Charset conversion performance has been enhanced.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Keepalived for LVS aims to add a strong and robust keepalive
facility to the Linux Virtual Server project. This project is written in C
with multilayer TCP/IP stack checks. It implements a framework based on
three family checks: Layer3, Layer4, and Layer5. This framework gives the
daemon the ability of checking a LVS server pool states.When one of the
servers in the LVS server pool is down, keepalived informs the Linux
kernel via a setsockopt call to remove this server entry from the LVS
topology. In addition, it implements a VRRPv2 stack to handle director
failover.
Changes: The genshash makefile was fixed. An HTTP healthchecker buffer
minimization that caused a crash was removed. The parser include directive
was fixed to support multi-level configuration includes. The SSL checker
was extended for better handling of SSL handshake. The HTTP healthcheker
problem which occurred while processing MD5SUM was fixed. Missing
notifications upon VRRP state transition were fixed. Support for VRRP
virtual_routes was added to route metric.

[052] - PHP MIME Mail decoder class 2007.09.14
by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
Mon, Sep 17th 2007 07:45
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP MIME Mail decoder class is a PHP class to parse and decode MIME
email messages. It supports decoding single RFC 2822 MIME messages or
archives that aggregate multiple messages in the mbox format. It can
decode messages read from files or data strings. The bodies of multipart
messages can be decoded into distinct sub-messages. Optionally, the
message body data can be saved to separate files, so the class can handle
messages larger than the available memory. The parser can tolerate some
syntax errors in malformed messages that are not compliant with RFC 2822.
Changes: A bug was fixed to make the parser correctly handle the
content-type header with white spaces in the boundary definition. Another
bug was fixed to correctly handle base64 encoded message bodies that are
longer than the message buffer size.

[053] - PHP mySQL Database Wrapper Class 1.1.0
by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
Mon, Sep 17th 2007 10:47
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP mySQL Database Wrapper Class provides a set of methods for
interacting with a MySQL database easily and securely. Most of the methods
are extended versions of PHP's native functions, but providing a lot more
functionality and powerful debugging features. There are also new methods
that greatly simplify the process of executing specific queries like
returning specific rows or even single values from specific rows, SUM(),
COUNT(), and MAX() queries. Starting with version 1.0.9, the class also
supports caching.
Changes: Calling on a fetch method and providing a result resource from a
query whose result was taken from cache would send the script into an
infinite loop. The speed of the dlookup() method has been improved by
adding LIMIT to it. New methods close(), log_debug_info(), and seek() (an
alias of mysql_data_seek() that works seamlessly with cached results).
Some documentation refinements. A completely rewritten template file and
stylesheet. A version with the comments stripped out is also available,
and is almost 4 times smaller than the original script.

[058] - Postoffice 1.4.3b
by Orc (http://freshmeat.net/users/fmOrc/)
Mon, Sep 17th 2007 23:49
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
About: Postoffice is a simple SMTP mail server and client written with
spam blocking in mind. It provides a greylist to slow down the rate of
incoming spam, and can be configured to do antivirus checking on incoming
mail either via the sendmail milter protocol or a traditional hard-coded
AV program. Postoffice can be configured to deliver mail to accounts
inside vm-pop3d-style virtual domains, and it can further be enabled to
support AUTH LOGIN for people inside virtual domains, so they can use
postoffice as a mail forwarder when replying to mail. Postoffice accepts
(and ignores) many of the same command line options that are passed to
sendmail, and it comes with the usual crop of sendmail compatable aliases;
runq, mailq, newaliases, and sendmail.
Changes: This version cleans up a small bug where new copies of the Date:,
From:, and Message-ID: headers are added to the control file every time
runq cannot send the message to the remote system. Normally, it shouldn't
even be noticed, but if you have a site that stubbornly refuses to accept
mail, control files can grow to be fairly large (~15k after 2 days of
hourly runqs).

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: RabbIt is a mutating, caching Web proxy used to speed up surfing
over slow links like modems. It does this by removing advertising and
background images and scaling down images to low quality JPEGs. RabbIT is
written in Java and should be able to run on any platform. It does depend
upon an image converter if image scaleing is on. The recommended image
converter is "convert" from the ImageMagick package.
Changes: A few problems when handling malformed HTML were fixed. The
problem with proxy chaining and SSL requests was fixed. A problem when
gzip unpacking could hang was fixed. Repack handling of resources using
deflate encoding was added.

System :: Systems Administration
About: Sample monitors files on a user-by-user basis and waits for their
timestamp or filesize to hit a threshold, and then executes a specified
command to handle the files. It complements the cron family of task
scheduling tools.
Changes: Support for configure's --prefix argument has been changed. If
supplied, it will now place all sample-related files inside that prefix
directory. If the argument is not supplied, sample-related files will be
placed in an assumed "best" standard place ("--prefix" is the only generic
configure option used). An "%i" inode string replacement variable for
commands has been added.

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.
Changes: HTMLsresi import did not work if the file did not have any root
hints. This release lists any tag that may prevent a Del.icio.us export.

[070] - Stunnix JavaScript Obfuscator and Encoder 3.7
by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
Mon, Sep 17th 2007 10:53
Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.
Changes: This release adds support for protecting JavaScript inside string
constants that are arguments of specific function calls in files written
any programming language. This allows one to obfuscate JavaScript in .cpp,
java, and .aspx.cs files in a way synchronous with .html or .aspx files in
the same project. Minor fixes and enhancements have been introduced.
