[001] - apparix 07-261
  by Stijn van Dongen (http://freshmeat.net/users/micans/)
  Tue, Sep 18th 2007 11:17

System :: Shells

About: Apparix enables fast file system navigation by bookmarking
directories and later jumping to them using the mark. The contributed bash
completion code allows one to complete on bookmarks and on subdirectories
of the target directory.

Changes: The options to squash bookmarks based on repeated mark or
repeated destination have been redesigned. They no longer work globally,
but act by specification of a mark. Removed bookmarks are now by default
echoed to STDOUT in the form of apparix statements that will reimport
them, making it easier to undo unwanted removals by cutting and pasting.
It is now possible to have different apparix environments on different
hosts, and it is possible to keep a log file of all apparix additions.

[003] - AutoLaTeX 5.0
  by sgalland (http://freshmeat.net/users/sgalland/)
  Tue, Sep 18th 2007 11:28

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: AutoLaTeX is a tool for managing small to large sized LaTeX
projects. The typical AutoLaTeX input file is simply a series of variable
definitions in a Makefile for the project. This Makefile was automatically
generated by a provided Perl script. The user can easily perform all
required steps to do such tasks as preview the document or produce a PDF
file. AutoLaTeX will keep track of files that have changed and how to run
the various programs that are needed to produce the output. One of the
best features of AutoLaTeX is to provide translation rules to
automatically generate the figures which will be included into the PDF.

Changes: This release adds a GTK user interface to configure and launch
AutoLaTeX process. It also fixes several bugs.

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random,
Least Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to
set up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports
SNMP, integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: A bug in the "hash" distribution has been fixed (applied to the
"development" branch as well, resulting in 2.014).

[006] - Bitgate Server Software Environment 0.5.2
  by Ken Hollis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tsuichi1/)
  Tue, Sep 18th 2007 11:23

Internet

About: Bitgate Server Software Environment aims to build a multi-protocol
application environment in which server protocol handlers can be
eventually loaded and unloaded on the fly using a center console or
controller Web page. It aims to have 99.9% uptime, and have
high-availability compliance. It is written in Java 6, and relies
completely on Java's I/O functionality to provide non-blocking support for
both SSL and non-SSL sockets (without having to know how to use SSLEngine).
All configuration is done via XML files, as this is easier to maintain. It
includes a minimal demonstration HTTP server.

Changes: Major changes to the HTTP service so that vending of pages is now
working almost 100%. A Keep-Alive bug has been fixed with both Firefox and
Opera. The code has been updated so that HTTP Redirect and 404 errors are
now working properly. HTTP output buffering has been fixed so that
memory-based output is now working as it should. The next release should
include an HTTP POST implementation.

  by Michael Sweet (http://freshmeat.net/users/easysw/)
  Tue, Sep 18th 2007 23:57

Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries

About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.

Changes: This version replaces the invalid 1.3.1 release tarballs and
fixes some scheduler and printing issues.

  Tue, Sep 18th 2007 11:18

Software Development :: Documentation
Text Processing :: General
Utilities

About: GNU Source-highlight produces a document with syntax highlighting
when given a source file. It handles many languages, e.g., Java, C/C++,
Prolog, Perl, PHP3, Python, Flex, HTML, and other formats, e.g., ChangeLog
and log files, as source languages and HTML, XHTML, DocBook, ANSI color
escapes, LaTeX, and Texinfo as output formats. Input and output formats
can be specified with a regular expression-oriented syntax.

Changes: The language definition for S-Lang was added, and Perl and
Javascript definitions were improved. The right delimiter of a delim
element can refer to marked sub-expressions in the left delimiter. The
definition of C-style comments, which are not nested, was fixed. The
padding character for line numbers can be specified.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Archiving :: Packaging

About: Japt-Proxy is a fast and reliable caching proxy for Debian's APT
system. It is intended for environments where several Debian systems have
to be kept up-to-date and downloading the same files over and over again
from the Debian mirrors is undesirable. Even with high volume internet

  by rockoo (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielwebert/)
  Tue, Sep 18th 2007 11:28

System :: Filesystems
System :: Operating System Kernels

About: NTFS-3G is a read/write NTFS driver. NTFS-3G is available for over
60 Linux distributions, including most major ones. Moreover, it has been
ported to other operating systems like FreeBSD, BeOS, Haiku, and Mac OS X,
to big-endian and 64-bit computer architectures, and to CPUs like AMD64,
ARM, and MIPS.

Changes: The free disk space calculation was extremely CPU intensive
during write activity. This could reduce write performance severely,
especially for huge volumes if a file manager, desktop applet, or other
application regularly polled for disk space usage. Now the calculation is
constant time, around only 10 microseconds on a typical desktop system,
and it's completely independent of the volume size.

abstraction layer of Pentabarf, has been rewritten and separated and is
now an independent project. All templates are now using the
Builder-Framework, which automatically escapes everything. The Javascript
code has been completely rewritten too. The markup language used for
descriptions is now Markdown.

[034] - Super CSV 1.01
  by Dr. Kasper Graversen (http://freshmeat.net/users/kbilsted/)
  Tue, Sep 18th 2007 03:42

About: Super CSV is a CSV package for the Java 5+ platform. It operates on
streams rather than file names, so you can read and write files of any
encoding from any kind of source. It operates on maps and POJO beans, so
you don't have to convert to or from String arrays. It has a powerful
notion of a cellprocessor which enables you to regard columns in your CSV
files as real types such as numbers and dates rather than as strings.
Additionally, the processors can also act as a constraint mechanism,
enabling you to naturally specify constraints on your data.

Changes: Support for inherited properties in the bean reader/writer. The
JAR was changed and is now usable under JDB 5+.

About: vlock is a program to lock one or more sessions on the Linux
console. This is especially useful for Linux machines which have multiple
users with access to the console. One user may lock his or her session(s)
while still allowing other users to use the system on other virtual
consoles. If desired, the entire console may be locked and virtual console
switching disabled.

Changes: A medium rewrite was undertaken. Support for plugins (modules and
scripts) was added. vlock-all, vlock-new, and vlock-nosysrq were converted
to modules. Other sample modules were added. vlock now tries to terminate
cleanly if killed by SIGTERM and on errors.

[042] - xSite 1.0
  by Andras Horvath (http://freshmeat.net/users/raas123/)
  Tue, Sep 18th 2007 11:13

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: xSite generates static XHTML and CSS Web albums from image
directories, making use of JPEG/EXIF comments in the images instead of
external databases. It will also generate an RSS 2.0 feed for the
resulting album. xSite is not a photo management tool by itself, so must
use something else for tagging, editing, and organizing your images. The
project's goals are simplicity, ease of use, and standards compliance in
the output.

Changes: Recursion (subdirectories) support with separate RSS feeds per
subdirectory. Support for many files in a subdirectory. Optimized
HTML/image regeneration. Removed pictures are deleted upon refresh.
Filenames with spaces and exotic characters are handled. There is a lot of
cleanup and bugfixes. It is now possible to "stick" a new image directory
anywhere into an existing album tree. If upgrading, please check the FAQ
first.
