Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: Atomic OS is a responsive Web 2.0 operating environment and
development platform. Based on AJAX techniques, it emulates/provides
standard operating system features including a command line shell,
interpreter, filesystem, database access, and GUI services.

Changes: A tutorial was intended for this release, but has been put on
hold. New features include microfile tagging, CGI support, and AJAX based
networking samples.

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: ATF is a collection of libraries and utilities designed to ease
unattended application testing in the hands of developers and end users of
a specific piece of software. Tests can currently be written in C/C++ or
POSIX shell and, contrary to other testing frameworks, ATF tests are
installed into the system alongside any other application files. This
allows the end user to easily verify that the software behaves correctly
on her system. Furthermore, the results of the test suites can be
collected into nicely-formatted reports to simplify their visualization
and analysis.

Changes: Test cases now get a known umask on entry. atf-run and atf-report
now detect many bogus test programs and correctly report them. All the data
formats have been reviewed and stabilized. The atf-version tool was added
to show information about the installed version of ATF. Test cases can now
define an optional cleanup routine. Test programs have been improved to
capture some termination signals in order to be able to clean up temporary
files before exiting. There have been multiple fixes and improvements all
around.

  by Risujin (http://freshmeat.net/users/Risujin/)
  Thu, Sep 20th 2007 00:32

Adaptive Technologies
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Image Recognition

About: CellWriter is a grid-entry natural handwriting input panel. As you
write characters into the cells, your writing is instantly recognized at
the character level. When you press 'Enter' on the panel, the input you
entered is sent to the currently focused application as if typed on the
keyboard. Writer-dependent, CellWriter learns your handwriting for
reliable recognition. Correcting preprocessor algorithms account for
digitizer noise, differing stroke order, direction, and number of strokes.
Unicode support enables you to write in any language.

Changes: An on-screen keyboard was added. The input code and interface
were reworked. Crashes on 64-bit systems were fixed.

About: The Java Application Monitor (JAMon) is a free, simple, high
performance, thread safe, Java API that allows developers to easily
monitor production applications. JAMon can be used to determine
application performance bottlenecks, user/application interactions, and
application scalability. JAMon gathers summary statistics such as hits,
execution times (total, average, minimum, maximum, standard deviation),
and simultaneous application requests. JAMon statistics are displayed in
the sortable JAMon report.

Changes: This release adds the ability to monitor Tomcat 4/5/5.5/6, JBoss
4.0.5, and Jetty 6.1.5 page resources. It adds an EJB3 interceptor that

  Thu, Sep 20th 2007 00:47

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy

About: Netrek is a 16-player two-dimensional graphical real-time battle
simulation with a Star Trek theme. A game is divided into two teams of 8
players (or fewer), who dogfight each other and attempt to conquer each
other's planets. Netrek is the probably the first video game which can
accurately be described as a "sport". It has more in common with
basketball than with arcade games or Quake. Its vast and expanding array
of tactics and strategies allows for many different play styles; the best
players are the ones who think fastest, not necessarily the ones who
twitch most effectively.

Changes: Assorted enhancements and bugfixes.

[031] - OpenAIS 0.82 (Trunk)
  by Steven Dake (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevendake/)
  Thu, Sep 20th 2007 00:26

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: OpenAIS is an open source implementation of the SA Forum
(www.saforum.org) Application Interface Specification. The project
currently implements APIs to improve availability by reducing MTTR. APIs
available are cluster membership, application failover, checkpointing,
eventing, distributed locking, messaging, closed process groups, and
extended virtual synchrony passthrough. It is possible to write redundant
applications that tolerate hardware, operating system, and application
faults. Cluster software developers can write plugins to use the
infrastructure provided by OpenAIS.

Changes: Significant bugs in the Totem protocol have been resolved through
heavy community testing and involvement. A new logging and tracing system
was implemented. External plugins are now easier to develop and the proper
files are exported to the user. Serious problems in the synchronization
engine and plugin system have been fixed. Passive monitoring added to AMF.
A few cpg library API calls were added at community request. A timer system
rewrite was added.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: ufdbGuard is a URL filter. The URL filter blocks access to sets of
Web sites on the Internet and is designed to be used with the popular Web
proxy server, Squid. ufdbGuard also dynamically detects proxy tunnels and
blocks access. The multi-threaded daemon uses a fast algorithm that does
25,000 URL verifications per second on an Intel 2.8 GHz Xeon CPU. On a
Conroe Core 2 at 2.4 GHz, the speed is nearly doubled.

Changes: This version has new features to detect unsecure usage of HTTPS,
more logging options, and better control over the size of logfiles. It
also has two fixes. The most important one is a fix to always block
proxies which are dynamically detected.

About: The ZK Mobile is a ZK extension that enables ZK applications to run
on mobile devices with little programming. With the event-driven components
and a markup language, programming is as simple as programming desktops and
designing screens is as easy as authoring HTML pages. No JavaME
prerequisite is required.

Changes: Two new features are supported and eight bugs are fixed in this
version. It works with ZK 3.0.0RC.
