[002] - AutoLaTeX 5.1
  by sgalland (http://freshmeat.net/users/sgalland/)
  Sun, Sep 23rd 2007 03:02

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: AutoLaTeX is a tool for managing small to large sized LaTeX
projects. The typical AutoLaTeX input file is simply a series of variable
definitions in a Makefile for the project. This Makefile was automatically
generated by a provided Perl script. The user can easily perform all
required steps to do such tasks as preview the document or produce a PDF
file. AutoLaTeX will keep track of files that have changed and how to run
the various programs that are needed to produce the output. One of the
best features of AutoLaTeX is to provide translation rules to
automatically generate the figures which will be included into the PDF.

Changes: This release adds i18n features, French localization, and minor
bugfixes.

System :: Archiving
System :: Filesystems
System :: Systems Administration

About: ftwin is a tool useful to find duplicate files according to their
content on your file system.

Changes: A file that does not have correct permissions is now skipped
instead of causing the program to crash. A big file may overuse memory
when using the mmap syscall where it is implemented, so for files whose
size is greater than excess (defined by the -x parameter), a standard
chunk read method is used. The -p parameter was implemented, and files in
a path prepended by this parameter will be displayed first. This may be
useful to script a deletion, for example.

[024] - massXpert mass spectrometry package 1.6.6
  by filippo rusconi (http://freshmeat.net/users/FilippoRusconi/)
  Sun, Sep 23rd 2007 08:39

Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment
for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU
polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in
the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the
desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the
sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass
spectrometric simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations
include polymer and monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence
cleavage, gas-phase fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.

Changes: When cleaving or fragmenting a sequence, you may now ask for the
generation of cleavage- or fragmentation-based oligomers of any given
ionization state. For example, when cleaving a protein using an enzyme, it
is possible to ask that the generated peptides be in an ionized state
between z=1 and z=5. A bug with the acido-basicity calculations where the
user could only enter integer pH values was fixed. Double values
(precision 2 decimals) may now be used to allow finer grained
calculations. Various minor bugs were fixed.

  Sun, Sep 23rd 2007 14:49

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: The MiniUPnP project is a library and a daemon. The library is
aimed to enable applications to use the capabilities of a UPnP Internet
Gateway Device present on the network to forward ports. The daemon adds
the UPnP Internet Gateway Device functionality to a NAT gateway running
OpenBSD/NetBSD/FreeBSD with PF or Linux 2.4.x/2.6.x with netfilter. One of
its most interesting features is to enforce some permissions to allow or
deny redirections, bringing some security to UPnP.

Changes: This version introduces MiniSSDPd, a daemon running to provide
miniUPnPc with data about UPnP devices broadcasting SSDP announces on the
network. MiniUPnPc was changed accordingly to work faster if MiniSSDPd is
available.

[035] - Task Coach 0.65.1
  by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
  Sun, Sep 23rd 2007 14:38

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do
consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with
composite tasks.

Changes: This release fixes one critical bug and two minor bugs. The
critical bug caused saving to fail after adding attachments via the 'add
attachment' menu or context menu. Users of release 0.65.0 are recommended
to upgrade.

Information Management

About: Tellico is a collection manager for KDE. It includes default
collections for books, bibliographies, comic books, videos, music, video
games, coins, stamps, trading cards, and wines, and also allows custom
collections. Unlimited user-defined fields are allowed. Filters are
available to limit the visible entries by definable criteria. Full
customization for printing is possible through editing the default XSLT
file. It can import CSV, Bibtex, Bibtexml, RIS, MODS, CDDB, and audio file
metadata and exports CSV, HTML, Bibtex, Bibtexml, ONIX, and PilotDB.
Entries may be imported directly from Amazon.com, imdb.com, any z39.50
bibliographic server, PubMed, or an external script.

Changes: An issue with settings not being saved on Fedora was fixed.
Searching on Amazon.com, isbndb.com, allocine.fr, and the Spanish Ministry
of Culture was updated. The JavaScript and CSS in the HTML export were
improved. The GCstar importer was updated for the new GCstar format. The
z39.50 search was improved to remove some possible freezes and dropped
search results. MARCXML was added to allowed SRU result formats, and entry
updating was added for all collection types.

  by Michael Muller (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmuller/)
  Sun, Sep 23rd 2007 02:22

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering

About: Wurld is yet another free 3D gaming engine. It is light, fast, has
minimal external requirements, and is still very immature. It is Python
scriptable, including support for generating models using 3D turtle
graphics.

Changes: The player object was made Movable. A sphere/plane collision
detection algorithm was added. A problem with the font loader on some X
servers was fixed (this shows up as a "bad font" error, and it is the
result of prematurely closing the X server connection from which the font
was created). Various fixes were made to collision detection. Gravity was
added (although it is still undocumented). Some debugging tools were
added.

Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Valentina is cross-platform DBMS that makes it easy to switch
between a local embedded database and server using the same sources. It
supports disk and in-memory databases, field types from Bit to BLOB, and
both a SQL92(99) and non-SQL API. Valentina supports Relational, Extended
Navigational, and Object-Relational data models. It introduces a
revolutionary model abstraction "Link". It works natively in UTF-16, can
accept 270 encodings, and features advanced features such as regular
expressions, XML, full-text search, pictures, functions, and calculated
fields. It offers triggers, views, and stored procedures.

Changes: Valentina Kernel has user-defined functions, improved exception
handling for stored procedures, a last_recid() SQL function, and
system-level variables such as @@lastErrorNumber and @@lastErrorMessage.
In Valentina Studio, structure diagrams have been improved to be able
handle hundreds of tables. Schema Editor now shows the list of triggers
that belong to each table as well as the list of all triggers of the
database. There are about 20 fixes for bugs reported by users.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: wiki2xhtml can create complete Web pages and uses a clean XHTML
syntax. It can insert galleries, a menu, a footer, and nearly all elements
you know from the Wikipedia. The pages are formatted with CSS. All designs
can be adjusted by hand, and custom ones can be used as well. wiki2xhtml
generates the HTML pages from simple text files in the MediaWiki syntax.
You can also use own (X)HTML code or other script languages inside; there
are no restrictions. The GUI is composed of a Code Paste Window where you
can insert wiki code that will be generated live. A click into the result,
the XHTML code, copies it into the clipboard.

About: xjobs runs several jobs in parallel and limits the number of jobs
running at once so that every processor of the machine is busy, but not
overloaded. A batch of long-running processes invoked from the shell are
normally executed one after another, no matter how many processors are
available. xjobs allows batching those jobs while still keeping the
machine busy. The interface of xjobs is similar to that of xargs.
