System :: Systems Administration

About: ACP is basically a wrapper for SSH and SCP that allows a user to
select, or manually enter, a group of hosts to connect to. The user can
run a command or copy some files/directories to multiple hosts by issuing
a single command on the "admin" host. It requires the fping program, as it
checks the specified hosts for connectivity, and will only try to run the
command on/copy files to hosts that are reachable.

  by Ken Hollis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tsuichi1/)
  Mon, Sep 24th 2007 05:54

Internet

About: Bitgate Server Software Environment aims to build a multi-protocol
application environment in which server protocol handlers can be
eventually loaded and unloaded on the fly using a center console or
controller Web page. It aims to have 99.9% uptime, and have
high-availability compliance. It is written in Java 6, and relies
completely on Java's I/O functionality to provide non-blocking support for
both SSL and non-SSL sockets (without having to know how to use SSLEngine).
All configuration is done via XML files, as this is easier to maintain. It
includes a minimal demonstration HTTP server.

Changes: HTTP POST was implemented. Several bugs that appeared when
testing POST were fixed. HTTPS is now working properly. The code is stable
for the last 0.5.x release.

About: CacheGuard is a Linux-based operating system dedicated to Web
traffic control and optimization. It transforms an x86-based machine into
a powerful, Web gateway appliance. It allows you to secure Web traffic for
Web surfers and Web servers by acting as a forwarding and reverse HTTP /
HTTPS proxy. It supports HTTP transparent implementation, HTTP
compression, Web caching, URL black- and whitelist guarding, and Web
server load balancing. It features a stateful firewall with NAT and PAT,
and a content filtering module blocking malicious HTTP requests like XSS,
SQL and Command Injection. It integrates a caching DNS, a DHCP server, a
bandwidth shaper to manage the QoS, a load sharing system, and an HA (high
availability) mode with VRRP and link bonding.

Changes: Deleting a Web site with the "rweb" command now works properly
and all related custom filters are removed. Custom filter rules are
properly applied to the running configuration and appropriate services are
restarted.

  Mon, Sep 24th 2007 07:02

Database
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: jPersist is an extremely powerful object-relational database
persistence API that manages to avoid the need for configuration and
annotation; mapping is automatic. It uses JDBC, and can work with any
relational database and any type of connection resource. It uses
information obtained from the database to handle mapping between the
database and Java objects, so mapping configuration is not needed, and
annotation is not needed. In fact, there is no configuration needed at
all.

Changes: A lot of testing has taken place and all supported platforms have
been tested. Some simple find bug and PMD fixes were made. Numerous changes
were made, including moving MySQL generated key processing to the other
"get last key" mode. DatabaseManager.loadObject() was renamed to
DatabaseManager.queryAndLoadObject(). Handling was added for setting null
values in the database when the getXXX method returns null. Support for
prefix/suffix stripping was added. A small but major error with not
cloning the database handler during updates was fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: XHTML Family Tree Generator is a CGI Perl script together with some
Perl modules that will create views of a family tree from a supplied data
file. The data file is either a simple text, an Excel, or GEDCOM file
listing the family members, parents, and other details. It is possible to
show a tree of ancestors and descendants for any person, showing any
number of generations. Other facilities are provided for showing email
directories, birthday reminders, facehall, and more. It has a simple
configuration, makes heavy use of CGI (and other CPAN modules), generates
valid XHTML, and has support for Unicode and multiple languages.

Changes: Bugs were fixed. The code was refactored to use the Class::Std
module. The configuration file was changed. The ability to read data from
a database was added, but has not been tested yet.

About: Yamon is a very simple program designed to check whether a server
is up and running and to send an alert to a human when something appears
to be broken. It can also perform some basic troubleshooting to venture a
guess as to why things aren't working properly.

Changes: First public release. It works and is useful, but a few more
features are still planned.
