Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale

About: Ah3 is an invoicing and inventory system for repair shops. It comes
configured for an auto repair shop but can be configured to handle any shop
with customers who have things to be repaired. It includes a customer and
vehicle database, the ability to generate invoices, and the ability to
track the repair history of a vehicle. It also tracks inventory, allowing
for parts with multiple vendors and costs and other information. Ah3 is
the successor to Autohouse II.

Changes: WhatsThis tags were added to help identify which dialog elements
use which forms in the XML configuration file. The spec file was modified
to be generic, and the original was moved to ah3-spec.suse to keep the one
for producing the OpenSuse build. Files and scripts and documentation for
installing the database schema and configuring postgres were added.
Clicking "Done" or pressing <Enter> on the form now saves any outstanding
changes on the forms. Pressing <Esc> or clicking the "X" on the dialog
frame now discards any outstanding records.

[002] - Arabica September 2007 Release 2
  by Jez (http://freshmeat.net/users/jez/)
  Wed, Sep 26th 2007 10:52

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: Arabica is an XML toolkit written in Standard C++. It provides SAX,
DOM, XPath, and partial XSLT implementations. It delivers UTF-8 encoded
std::strings or UCS-2 std::wstrings, but can also accommodate custom
string types and alternative encodings.

Changes: This is the first release that knowingly breaks existing code,
but the changes required are all straightforward. There are several
filename changes. Some classes have been moved into different namespaces.
This release adds no new functionality.

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: awesome is a window manager for X. It manages windows in several
layout modes, such as tiled or floating. Each layout can be applied
dynamically. Windows can be grouped by tags, and each window can be tagged
with one or multiple tags, and each tag can have its own layout.

Changes: Toggle floating with Button2 in the tileleft layout was fixed.
Tagviewprev utagviewnext functions were added to the key bindings. Windows
are rearranged when maximizing. The maximizing functions were enhanced to
support Xinerama. The last state restore on maximizing was fixed (windows
were always floating). A new layout was added: max, which shows windows in
fullscreen. Focusprevscreen and focusnextscreen were added to switch focus
from one screen to another in Zaphod mode. The current layout
nmaster/ncols/mwfact is displayed in the statusbar if no window is
displayed. Swapnext and swapprev were added for reordering and swapping
windows.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.

Changes: The evolution-brutus sub-daemons have been totally reworked. A
log daemon has been implemented, which makes it much easier to collect
debug output from all e-b processes. All daemons can now be told to
restart themselves by sending them SIGUSR2. The most visible change to
users is that it's possible to disable public folders if they are
unwanted. A lot of bugs have been fixed. ORBit2 from SVN should be used
for this release.

  by Grymse (http://freshmeat.net/users/ah7207/)
  Wed, Sep 26th 2007 15:43

Communications
System :: Networking

About: C++ Sockets is a cross-platform C++ wrapper for BSD-style sockets.
Its features include transparent SOCKS4 client support and asynchronous
DNS. It implements the TCP, UDP, SCTP, ICMP, HTTP (GET, PUT, and POST),
and HTTPS (using OpenSSL) protocols.

Changes: TcpSocket always calls OnDisconnect when reading 0 bytes. New
methods for traffic flow control: OnTransferLimit() and
SetTransferLimit(). A boundary bug (writes over two blocks failed) in
MemFile has been fixed. Member variables in SSLInitializer are no longer
static, since SSLInitializer itself is static in TcpSocket (avoids a
potential problem with initialization order of statics). Missing namespace
in SmtpdSocket has been added.

About: cinit is a fast executing, small, and simple init with support for
profiles. It is aware of dependencies and executes processes in parallel.

Changes: This release adds -V (get cmd version), -h (help), and -p (get
pid) to cmd. The namemspace in msgq.h has been cleaned up. A global
service lock has been added. svc.h has been split into svc.h,
svc-intern.h, and svc-messages.h. A logic splitoff from cinit_ipc_listen()
has been prepared. fork() had a general race condition (see
src/test/fork-latency.c) through the use of global lock; this has been
fixed.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: DerMixD is an audio mixing and network-listening daemon that is
similar to mixplayd but quite different in its implementation. It supports
the playing of music files on a run-time configurable number of input
channels, mixing them together and producing output on a run-time
configurable number of output channels. It is controlled over a TCP socket
and supports pitch shifting, scripting, gapless playing of tracks,
including filtering of null samples from padding, use of mpg123's
equalizer, flexible input/output connection, and more.

Changes: The parsing of command line parameters now actually manages to
interpret mpg123.zeroscan=off as _deactivation_ as it was intended.
mpg123.zeroscan has a fix for the silence at the end of a track (it was
messed up before). Both optional mpg123 features (gapless and zeroscan)
are off by default now to emphasize that it is your decision to use them
(though it is recommended).

[030] - Network PDF Server YAFPC-Appliance 5.00
  by Wolfgang Ullrich (http://freshmeat.net/users/ullrich/)
  Wed, Sep 26th 2007 10:22

About: YAFPC-Appliance is a browser based management frontend for the PDF
composer/printer/Mailer YAFPC. It comes with the General-Purpose Appliance
System on a bootable CD in combination with an easy to use installation
script. Once installed, any PC booted from this CD image can act as a PDF
print server that provides an unlimited number of network shared virtual
PDF printers. The system requirements are low; any older PC can be used.
System configuration can be done via a Web browser from any workstation in
the network. Virtual shared printers can be configured to apply
letterheads, watermarks, cover pages, and appendixes to all printed
documents. After printing, a document is sent to its owner by mail, can be
accessed in a shared folder on the server, or can be stored in a shared
network folder on some other machine.

Changes: Email addresses for sending created documents to the "printing"
user can now be resolved by an internal LDAP client for requesting an
Active Directory or an LDAP server. A memory leak causing a crash of the
admin interface after a large number of HTTP requests was fixed. A minor
bug in alias resolution for email delivery was fixed.

[045] - ufdbGuard 1.13
  by UFDB support (http://freshmeat.net/users/ufdb/)
  Wed, Sep 26th 2007 13:21

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: ufdbGuard is a URL filter. The URL filter blocks access to sets of
Web sites on the Internet and is designed to be used with the popular Web
proxy server, Squid. ufdbGuard also dynamically detects proxy tunnels and
blocks access. The multi-threaded daemon uses a fast algorithm that does
25,000 URL verifications per second on an Intel 2.8 GHz Xeon CPU. On a
Conroe Core 2 at 2.4 GHz, the speed is nearly doubled.

Changes: This release is mainly for 2 fixes. One is a workaround for a bug
in older glibc libraries before version 2.4, where regular expression
routines cannot be used in multi-threaded applications. The other one is
to make the HTTPS verification threads more stable. This release also has
a performance improvement. By default, ufdbGuard now uses Unix sockets
instead of IP sockets. The overall performance improvement is about 25%.
