Thu, Nov 1st 2007 23:04
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Systems Administration
About: gnoMint is a tool for easily creating and managing certification
authorities. It provides fancy visualization of all the pieces of
information that pertain to a CA, such as x509 certificates, CSRs, and
CRLs. gnoMint is currently capable of managing a CA that emits
certificates that are able to authenticate people or machines in VPNs
(IPSec or other protocols), secure HTTP communications with SSL/TLS,
authenticate and cipher HTTP communications through Web-client
certificates, and sign or crypt email messages.
Changes: PKCS#12 structures can now be exported, so certificates created
in gnoMint can be easily imported in other programs such as Web browsers
or mail clients. Also, gnoMint is able to revoke certificates and generate
the corresponding Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs). The license has
changed to the GNU GPLv3. This version also fixes two bugs: compilation
errors in x86-64 architecture were fixed, and the internal serial number
in created certificates was corrected.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: Pinot is a D-Bus service that crawls, indexes your documents, and
monitors them for changes. It is also a GTK-based user interface that
enables you to query the index built by the service or your favorite Web
engine, and display and analyze the results. It makes full use of advanced
indexing and search facilities offered by Xapian, features language
detection, dynamic document summaries, easy labelling of documents, and
internal support for common file types. The D-Bus interface allows easy
integration with other applications.
Changes: Searching in results and suggestion of spelling corrections were
implemented. Queries support time and size ranges, and can be sorted by
date. A document's terms can be saved to a file. Properties are updated in
the background. All indexes can be browsed. The import dialog provides
inline URL completion. The status window now shows a description of
errors. Support for user-specific MIME settings was improved. They are
reloaded upon modification. A new tool called pinot-label allows you to
get or set labels on indexed files. The daemon's D-Bus interface was

[035] - Regex Policy Daemon 0.3 (Development)
by Christian Thäter (http://freshmeat.net/users/cehteh/)
Thu, Nov 1st 2007 23:21
Internet
About: The RegexPolicyDaemon (rxpd) can be used to efficiently check data
against different lists of regular expressions. This can be used to build
application defined lists to protect many kinds of Internet services.
These lists can be distributed peer to peer between friends. Users can
update, filter, and merge these distributed lists to create their own
lists. It uses a simple textual protocol that is easy to implement in
scripting languages. Example usages are access and content control (spam
filtering) for CGI scripts, wikis, email, revision control systems, IRC
servers and clients, and so on.
Changes: All important features are completed, so rxpd is now "beta",
meaning that it is usable with some caution. UTF-8 encoded regular
expressions are used. An option to control case insensitive matching was
added. Rules can now be hierarchically organized. Rule matching can now
branch into sublists. A FILTER command was added to process lists. The
Daemonizing code was rewritten. Signal handling was added to control the
daemon.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: ServerKit helps developers quickly build efficient, scalable, and
uniformly configured, installed, and executed multi-threaded server
applications for Linux. A core server program handles configuration
parsing, database connection pool creation, and switching of users.
Application-specific modules are loaded at runtime and access the already
parsed configuration data and database connection pools via simple
well-defined program interfaces. ServerKit also provides a rich API for
quick and painless module development.
Changes: Operator threads stack size, log thread stack size, thread pool
epoll, and timer threads stack size are all specified now. This reels in
the previously inflated size of the server process' virtual address space.
