[018] - libevent 1.4.0 beta
  by Niels Provos (http://freshmeat.net/users/nielsprovos/)
  Mon, Nov 12th 2007 03:46

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The libevent API provides a mechanism to execute a callback
function when a specific event occurs on a file descriptor or after a
timeout has been reached. It is meant to replace the asynchronous event
loop found in event-driven network servers.

Changes: This release contains a new RPC subsystem that makes it easy to
write distributed servers and clients. Almost everything is documented via
Doxygen now. There have been a bunch of fixes and improvements to evdns and
evhttp. Libevent now builds two additional libraries: libevent_core
(containing only the event core) and libevent_extras (contained evdns,
evhttp, and evrpc). Performance was slightly improved due to using a heap
instead of red-black trees for timeouts. Finally, Solaris' event ports are
better supported.

[026] - Nodezilla 0.4.33
  by plop (http://freshmeat.net/users/smkaribou/)
  Mon, Nov 12th 2007 09:55

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet

About: Nodezilla is a secured, distributed, and fault tolerant routing
system (or grid network) that supports distributed services such as file
sharing, chat, efficient video multicast streaming, and secured file
storage. It provides cache features where any server may create a local
replica of any data object. These local replicas provide faster access
and robustness to network partitions, and reduce network congestion by
localizing access traffic. To ensure data protection, redundancy and
cryptographic techniques are used.

Changes: This release includes fixes for relayed (i.e. behind NAT/closed
firewall devices), and a more accurate bandwidth limiter. It also includes
some experimental routing code. Some crashes have been fixed.

About: Python Audio Tools is a collection of audio handling programs that
work from the command line. These include programs for CD extraction,
track conversion from one audio format to another, track renaming and
retagging, track identification, CD burning from tracks, and more. It
supports internationalized track filenames and metadata using Unicode. It
works with high-definition, multi-channel audio as well as CD-quality.
Track conversion uses multiple CPUs or CPU cores if available to greatly
speed the transcoding process. Track metadata can be retrieved from FreeDB
or FreeDB-compatible servers. Audio formats supported are WAV, FLAC,
WavPack, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, M4A, and more.

Changes: PulseAudio is now the default method for playing audio, if
available. ReplayGain metadata in audio tracks can now be applied during
playback. CD burning now uses multiple CPUs, if present, to speed up the
audio decoding process.

[037] - Scheture 3.3.4
  by mikeStabie (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikeStabie/)
  Mon, Nov 12th 2007 09:56

Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)

About: Scheture is a hierarchical schematic capture system with built-in
netlisters for Spice and Verilog. It has built-in plotting for HP PCL and
HP GL/2 printers and plotters. It includes a set of symbol primitives, and

[038] - Schrödinger 0.9.0
  by Uraeus (http://freshmeat.net/users/uraeus/)
  Mon, Nov 12th 2007 14:28

Multimedia :: Video

About: Schrödinger is an implementation of the Dirac video codec, a modern
wavelet-based video codec. It features both an encoder and a decoder and
GStreamer plugins. Mappings have also been developed for putting Dirac
into both the Ogg container format and the MPEG Transport stream container
format.

Changes: This release is mostly in sync with latest version of the Dirac
specification. The encoding parameter defaults have also been improved to
give a much better result when transcoding files. A lot of work has been
done to allow encoding to a specified bitrate. Be aware that the Dirac
bitstream specification is still being revised, so the files created with
this version are not likely to work with future versions of this and other
Dirac decoders.

[044] - task spooler 0.4.1
  by viric (http://freshmeat.net/users/viric/)
  Mon, Nov 12th 2007 04:05

System

About: task spooler is a Unix batch system where the tasks spooled run one
after the other. Each user in each system has his own job queue. The tasks
are run in the correct context (that of enqueue) from any shell/process,
and its output/results can be easily watched. It is very useful when you
know that your commands depend on a lot of RAM, a lot of disk use, give a
lot of output, or for whatever reason it's better not to run them at the
same time.

Changes: This release should compile easily in Darwin. Removing a job no
longer leaves the job's ts client alive. Killing the running job's ts
client no longer blocks the queue forever. setsid() is now used in order
to unlink ts from the bash session. This allows a more naive use of ts
inside bash scripts.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: UFRaw is a utility for converting and manipulating raw images from
digital cameras. It can be used as a stand-alone tool or as a Gimp plugin,
and images can be batch processed using the commandline interface. UFRaw
reads most existing raw formats using Dave Coffin's raw conversion utility
DCRaw, and it supports basic color management using Little CMS, allowing
the user to apply color profiles. For Nikon users, UFRaw has the advantage
that it can read the camera's tone curves. Even if you don't own a Nikon,
you can still apply a Nikon curve to your images.

Changes: This verision added support for the latest and greatest digital
cameras (thanks to dcraw). It is now possible to save images in PNG format
with 8- and 16-bit depth, embedding the original EXIF data and attaching an
ICC profile. It also provides efficient lossless compression. Other changes
include blink over/under exposure in preview, a color smoothing option for
all interpolation, delete and 'send to Gimp' buttons in the stand-alone
tool, aspect ratio control, and new Spanish, Polish, and Korean
