Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Ampache is a Web-based audio file manager. It allows you to view,
edit, and play your audio files via the Web. It has support for playlists,
artist and album views, album art, random play, playback via HTTP with
on-the-fly transcoding and downsampling, vote based playback, playback via
MPD and Icecast, an integrated Flash player, and per-user themes and song
play tracking. You can also link multiple Ampache servers together using
XML-RPC. Ampache supports gettext translations and has full translations
into many languages.

Changes: This release restores almost all missing features from the 3.3.x
branch. It also includes a new remote API that allows external
applications such as Amarok to interface directly with its catalog. The
interface has been polished a good bit, and includes the Greysme theme. A
new themeable Flash player is included, along with a tweak that allows you
to use it on a Wii. There are many major bugfixes and feature enhancements.

Office/Business

About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, and spot and
calibrated color.

Changes: JavaScript events are now fully implemented, and a basic
JavaScript environment is in place in the viewer that mimics Acrobat. This
means form validation scripts in PDF documents will likely run. Rhino 1.6r6
or Java 1.6 or later are required to take advantage of this. Changes to the
licensing method to allow License files to gradually replace the old-style
"keycode" licensing. All current licenses will continue to work. This
release deprecates Event.CLICK, which is now simply a synonym for MOUSEUP.

[011] - DiffJ 1.1.3
  by Jeff Pace (http://freshmeat.net/users/JEugenePace/)
  Sun, Nov 25th 2007 09:50

Software Development

About: DiffJ is a commandline application that compares Java files based
on content, not whitespace, comments, or reordering of types, methods, or
fields. Its output is based on the Unix program diff, and it also has a
"brief" output format for a concise summary of what changed. It can work
on directories recursively, looking for matching filenames, like "diff -r
dir0 dir1". It is primarily for developers refactoring and reformatting
Java code, for which most difference tools tend to produce misleading
results regarding the type and extent of changes.

Changes: This release has been changed so that output of code added and
deleted more closely matches the output produced by diff, that is,
displaying only the line(s) added/deleted.

Changes: The daemon stops crawling and indexing if the disk is getting
full. Crawling is also stopped when the system goes on battery, and
restarted when on AC. Support for the freedesktop.org's Power Management
spec is required. A plugin compatible with Deskbar 2.20 is included. The
spelling table is optional. Indexing files whose names contain a question
mark was fixed. pinot-label was fixed when the supplied file name isn't in
the index. Fixed build against libsigc++ 2.1. The Portuguese translation
was updated. The Swedish translation was updated.

About: rxvt-unicode is a clone of the well known terminal emulator rxvt,
modified to store text in Unicode and to use locale-correct input and
output. It also supports mixing multiple fonts at the same time, including
Xft fonts, real transparency, and an optional embedded Perl interpreter
that allows you to extend your terminal easily.

Changes: Window closes could crash urxvtd. If you use urxvtd, upgrading is
strongly recommended. Apart from this important bugfix, the only other
visible change is a smaller binary with --disable-frills as the built-in
block graphics table is not compiled in anymore.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: SlidePlay is a set of cross browser/platform Web slideshow
templates for presentation and the corresponding slideshow generator. Two
slideshow templates (JavaScript and applet) are included. The JavaScript
template uses DirectX transitions in IE and fade in/out effects in Firefox
or Safari. More advanced effects are available in the slideshow applet. It
supports background MP3 playing, annotation text, lyric files, and
pause/continue. The information for slideshows is kept in a
self-describing XML file called "jtv.xml".

Changes: Seven new slideshow transition modes have been added in the
slideshow applet. XML configuration has been simplified. The Java source
code of the album generator has been released under the GPL v3. The
documentation has been revised.

[030] - SRESI 0.19.16 (Development)

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: The Message infrastructure was moved. The Message.ml file only
contains the message texts now. All unbalancing optimizations were removed
to clear up the code in Bookmarks.ml. The license for Tag.ml was clarified:
it is now LGPL with a linking exception (as explained in the file itself).

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Stendhal is a multiplayer online adventure game (MMORPG) developed
using the Arianne game development system. It features a rich and
expanding world in which you can explore towns, buildings, plains, caves,
and dungeons. You will meet NPCs and acquire tasks and quests for valuable
experience and cold hard cash. Your character will develop and grow, and
with each new level up become stronger and better. With the money you
acquire, you can buy new items and improve your armour and weapons. You
can also roam the world in search of evil monsters (and kill them).

Changes: The new city of Kirdneh was added east of Fado forest. Player
houses were added in Ados and Kalavan city gardens. NPCs were added in
Kalavan city gardens. A new quest was added from Annie in Kalavan city
gardens (buy icecream). A new quest was added from Morgrin in the wizard
school in magic city (kill spiders). A password quality check is done on
account creation. 14.2% of the code is now covered by automated Junit
tests. The way quests are coded was improved.

  Sun, Nov 25th 2007 19:58

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: Conferencing

About: SurrealServices is a full replacement IRC Services package
providing NickServ, ChanServ, BotServ, MemoServ, and OperServ, as well as
LogServ and ConnectServ. Features are loosely based on
ConferenceRoom/Auspice and Anope, as well as NeoStats. Some security
features are also available such as a TOR (http://tor.eff.org/)
detector/banner and a country detector (which checks IP allocation and
optionally bans). It is multithreaded to eliminate lag due to the
asynchronous nature of MySQL and DNS lookups.

Changes: This release adds delete-by-number for NickServ SILENCE, write
new password-hashing code, makes validate_email less strict about
local-portion (removing local-portion validation entirely), and makes CS
BANLIST available to more users (including staffers).

About: Vala is a new programming language that aims to bring modern
programming language features to GNOME developers without imposing any
additional runtime requirements, and without using a different ABI
compared to applications and libraries written in C.

Changes: This release adds the Vala Project Generator, a small GUI to
create new Vala projects with the necessary autotools magic including i18n
support. It replaces the bindings generator gidlgen with
vala-gen-introspect, which includes a real C parser instead of Perl
scripts using regular expressions. There are more smaller features and
many bugfixes.

About: xmms-crossfade is an output plugin for XMMS. Its main feature is
automatic crossfading. It also removes the gaps between tracks, to play
whole MP3 albums without any audible interruption. xmms-crossfade supports
OSS via a builtin driver, and any other platform by using existing output
plugins. As of version 0.3.9, the Audacious media player is also
supported.

Changes: The automatic song change and end-of-playlist settings were not
working correctly with using audacious. This has been fixed. The software
mixer has also been improved. The volume setting is now applied just
before sending the audio data to the output plugin, resulting in faster
response.
