[001] - abcm2ps 5.7.4 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 04:59

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Major layout fixes were made. A new format file was added,
"flute.fmt".

Database
Documentation
Information Management

About: AgileWiki is a program that explores new knowledge representation.
It is an attempt to implement, at least in part, Norm Kashdan's Rolonic
Theory, a profoundly different approach to time and knowledge
representation. CowDb is a high-speed object store over which the next
generation of AgileWiki will be written. COODBMS is a Copy-on-write OODBMS
based on Rolonics.

Changes: The API has been simplified. The decision to embed objects or to
write them separately is now decided by metadata attached to the role.
Bugs were found and fixed in the b-tree logic.

About: ajaxWM is a themeable Web-based window manager, terminal emulator,
and SSH proxy. It is partially based on ajaxterm. It has been written to
allow remote controlling a computer even when you are behind a proxy
blocking non-HTTP(S) transfer and are not allowed to install any
additional software.

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Apache Cayenne is a persistence framework that provides
object-relational mapping (ORM) and remoting services. It has a wealth of
unique and powerful features and can address a wide range of persistence
needs. Cayenne seamlessly binds one or more database schemas directly to
Java objects, managing atomic commit and rollbacks, SQL generation, joins,
sequences, and more. With Cayenne's Remote Object Persistence, those Java
objects can even be persisted out to clients via Web Services. With native
XML serialization, objects can be even further persisted to non-Java
clients.

Changes: This milestone release adds some exciting new features, including
enhancements to the Cayenne modeler for lifecycle listeners and callbacks
and the ability to merge changes to the model back to the database,
extensive new work toward full JPA compliance, updates to cgen and the
templates, and much more. This release requires Java 5 as a minimum.
Generics are only partially completed in the public API at this time.

[006] - Automated Testing Framework 0.4
  by Julio M. Merino Vidal (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmmv/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 14:00

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: ATF is a collection of libraries and utilities designed to ease
unattended application testing in the hands of developers and end users of
a specific piece of software. Tests can currently be written in C/C++ or
POSIX shell and, contrary to other testing frameworks, ATF tests are
installed into the system alongside any other application files. This
allows the end user to easily verify that the software behaves correctly
on her system. Furthermore, the results of the test suites can be
collected into nicely-formatted reports to simplify their visualization
and analysis.

Changes: This release adds preliminary documentation on the C++ and shell
interfaces to write tests, mainly directed to developers wishing to adopt
ATF. It adds a way to specify required architectures and machines for
given tests through the require.arch and require.machine properties; if
the platform running the tests does not fulfill the requirements, the
tests are simply skipped. It adds the ability to limit the maximum time a
test case can last through the timeout property, killing tests that get
stalled. There are many portability fixes, especially to SunOS, and small
improvements all around.

[007] - benerator 0.4.0
  by Volker Bergmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/vbergmann/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 09:20

Software Development :: Testing

About: benerator is a framework for creating realistic and valid
high-volume test data, used for testing (unit/integration/load) and
showcase setup. Metadata constraints are imported from systems and/or
configuration files. Data can imported from and exported to files and
systems, anonymized, or generated from scratch. Domain packages provide
reusable generators for creating domain-specific data such as names and
addresses, internationalizable in language and region. benerator is
strongly customizable with plugins and configuration options.

Changes: benerator now incorporates mature and comfortable generation
capabilities for relational data, providing convenient database
configuration and primary key generation, script support in generators and
all import file formats, as well as a staging concept. Especially the
script feature is a great improvement in generating randomized data with
multi-field constraints. Furthermore, central concepts were extended for
generation of hierarchical data, like dependent data in databases or
nested data structures like XML.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Page Counters

About: CMME (Content Management Made Easy) is a Web content management
system that aims to be easy to use, doesn't have many requirements, and is
still reasonably flexible. It doesn't need a database, doesn't have
extensive administrative needs, and works more or less like a wiki. New
pages can be made on the fly, rather than through an administrative page.

Changes: Some bugs were fixed. Xinha problems with invisible links were
solved with a workaround. Link fixing code was added to the static plugin
edit function, in order to make links appear right in the edit area. A
minor bug was fixed for upgrade checks.

  by Chris (http://freshmeat.net/users/chrislusf/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 00:17

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, user-controllable result ranking, the ability to
return results with highlights (like Google), and categorized result
counts (like Amazon). It can easily integrate with other languages with
XML/JSON/HTML. There is a UI for all operations, so no Java coding is
necessary. Deleted or updated records in database can be synchronized
also.

Changes: PortugueseAnalyzer was added. Case-insensitive searching for
comma-semi colon separated values was added. Comma separated synonyms were
added, in addition to empty space separated synonyms. A configuration
maximum summarizer length was added.

[010] - deco archive file extractor 0.6
  by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 18:05

System :: Archiving

About: deco is a generic archive file extractor that has a consistent
command line interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.zip 3.flac 4.rar 5.deb" will
just work) and consistent behavior (it never deletes archives after
extraction, extracts relative to the current working directory, and
extracts just verbosely enough, all unless explicitly requested
otherwise). It provides automatic handling of extractor gotchas by
creating an extraction directory if there is more than one file or
directory at the archive top level and by being able to fix strange
permissions. Dozens of archive file extensions are supported out of the
box, and adding support for others requires very little work.

Changes: Support for tar.lzma/tlz archives was added. lzma extraction
works with both LZMA Utils and LZMA SDK for now.

[011] - Dependent Object Framework 0.9
  by Justin Gordon (http://freshmeat.net/users/justingordon/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 08:41

Software Development :: Testing

About: The Dependent Object Framework enables efficient JUnit testing and
test driven development against code that depends on objects that are
persisted (e.g., to a database). This code was originally developed to add
JUnit tests that used the real database code rather than trying to mock out
all the dependencies in a large commercial enterprise product, IBM's
WebSphere Product Center. The framework makes it extremely easy to simply
specify what database objects a test "requires".

Changes: This initial release includes example code on top of hsqldb.

[012] - DerMixD 1.5.1
  by Thomas Orgis (http://freshmeat.net/users/sobukus/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 18:08

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: DerMixD is an audio mixing and network-listening daemon that is
similar to mixplayd but quite different in its implementation. It supports
the playing of music files on a run-time configurable number of input
channels, mixing them together and producing output on a run-time
configurable number of output channels. It is controlled over a TCP socket
and supports scripting, gapless playing of tracks, including filtering of
null samples from padding, use of mpg123's equalizer, flexible
input/output connection, changing playback speed, and more.

Changes: This release fixes a mean bug/crash with MPEG input data of a
different channel count than the mixer (mono vs. stereo), and completes
the "scan length" operation with the updating of DerMixD's own value for
track length (just like "length" does).

[013] - DJ Native Swing 0.9.3
  by Chrriis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Chrriis/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 09:20

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: DJ Native Swing allows you to easily integrate some native
components into Swing applications, and provides some native utilities to
enhance Swing's APIs. The main focus is the integration of a native Web
browser and Flash Player using a Swing-like API. All the threading issues
and general integration headaches are handled automatically. It uses SWT
under the hood, and thus should work everywhere SWT can be placed inside a
Swing component.

Changes: This release offers the possibility to mix heavyweight and
lightweight components with lightweight components on top, to change their
Z-order or re-parent them. It also fixes several bugs.

[014] - dkop .40
  by kornelix (http://freshmeat.net/users/kornelix/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 10:16

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Dkop is a utility program to copy or back-up disk files to DVD.
Full or incremental backups can be done, with full or incremental DVD
verification. Dkop uses a GUI to navigate through directories to select or
de-select files or directories at any level. Backup jobs can be saved for
recurring use. New, deleted, and updated files are handled automatically,
without re-editing the backup job. An incremental backup updates the same
DVD used for a prior full backup. Large backup jobs can be done using
multiple DVDs. A GUI restore function is also provided. Differences
between disk and DVD can be reported in total, by directory, and by file.

Changes: DVD 'eject' between backup and verify has been replaced with a
short delay and a mount command. This allows easier operation for
Notebooks that do not pull the tray back in when a mount command is
issued.

[015] - domus.Link 0.2
  by icebrian (http://freshmeat.net/users/icebrian/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 00:14

Home Automation

About: domus.Link is a Web-based frontend for Heyu. Its design focuses on
separating configuration from actual controls, thus giving the user a
simple and user-friendly GUI. The primary concern is that anyone with
little or no knowledge of home automation systems can easily manage and
administer the system.

Changes: Support was added for multi-aliases such as A2,5. The way of
handling control tables was completely rewritten. A configuration option
was added to choose how many modules appear per line. Dim/bright click
controls were added to the intensity table. Native support for CM17A
devices was added. Security levels for password protection were added. An
auto-refresh setting was added to the frontend. Heyu now automatically
reloads when changes are made. Some error handling bugs were fixed.
Various other minor bugs were fixed. Theme icons were changed. Italian and
Swedish translations were added. The Dutch translation was updated.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: File cache class is a PHP Class that can cache arbitrary data in
files in order to reduce the time necessary to regenerate pages or other
types of data that do not change every time they are requested. It
features safe locking of cache files to avoid data corruption caused by
simultaneous accesses during cache file updates, portable locking schemes,
and the ability to set a cache expiry date or timeout period. Cache files
can store user-defined headers besides the cached data, and also standard
headers used in HTTP like content-length:, date:, expires:, etag:, etc. It
has been tested under Linux, SunOS and Windows.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that was preventing the reading of cache
file headers longer than the default file buffering length limit.

[025] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha24.0
  by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 00:37

About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.

Changes: This release fixes some problems with header modifications
requested by a pmilter.

  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 14:01

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Speech

About: Speex is a patent-free compression format designed especially for
speech. It is specialized for voice communications at low bit-rates in the
2-45 kbps range. Possible applications include Voice over IP (VoIP),
Internet audio streaming, audio books, and archiving of speech data (e.g.
voice mail).

Changes: The most obvious change in this release is that all the non-codec
components (preprocessor, echo cancellation, and jitter buffer) have been
moved to a new libspeexdsp library. Other changes include a new jitter
buffer algorithm and resampler improvements/fixes. This is also the first
release where libspeex can be built without any floating point support. To
do this, the float compatibility API must be disabled (--disable-float-api

[042] - Sunifdef 3.1.3 (Stable)
  by Mike Kinghan (http://freshmeat.net/users/imkinghan/)
  Mon, Feb 4th 2008 13:59

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Pre-processors

About: Sunifdef is a command line tool for eliminating superfluous
preprocessor clutter from C and C++ source files. It is a more powerful
successor to the FreeBSD 'unifdef' tool. Sunifdef is most useful to
developers of constantly evolving products with large code bases, where
preprocessor conditionals are used to configure the feature sets, APIs or
implementations of different releases. In these environments, the code
base steadily accumulates #ifdef-pollution as transient configuration
options become obselete. Sunifdef can largely automate the recurrent task
of purging redundant #if logic from the code.

Changes: Six bugs are fixed in this release. Five of these fixes tackle
longstanding defects of sunifdef's parsing and evaluation of integer
constants, a niche that has received little scrutiny since the tool
branched from unifdef. This version provides robust parsing of hex,
decimal, and octal numerals and arithmetic on them. However, sunifdef
still evaluates all integer constants as ints and performs signed integer
arithmetic upon	them. This falls short of emulating the C preprocessor's
arithmetic in limit cases, which is an unfixed defect.

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: Testing

About: XMLUnit provides assertions and supporting class libraries to test
various properties of generated pieces of XML using a popular testing
framework. It supports finding the differences between two pieces of XML,
validating documents against DTDs or XML Schemas, testing the results of
XPath expressions, or asserting properties of Nodes exposed via DOM
traversal. Two branches exist: one that supports Java and JUnit and one
that supports the .NET Framework and NUnit.

Changes: This is a version of XMLUnit.NET that has been compiled against
NUnit 2.4 and should work on any modern version of Mono as well as all
Microsoft .NET frameworks (only tested on 1.1 and above, though). Apart
from being compiled against a more modern version of NUnit, only a few
deprecation warnings have been fixed when compared to XMLUnit.NET 0.3. No
features have been added, and no bugs have been fixed (there haven't been
any bug reports anyway). Unfortunately, no documentation has been added
either.

  by Paul Chitescu (http://freshmeat.net/users/pchitescu/)

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony

About: Yate is a next-generation telephony engine. While currently focused
on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and PSTN, its power lies in its
ability to be easily extended. Voice, video, data, and instant messaging
can all be unified under Yate's flexible routing engine, maximizing
communications efficiency and minimizing infrastructure costs for
businesses.

Changes: A clustering module that allows registering and making calls to a
cluster of servers was added. A new late routing module allows sending ENUM
routed or forked calls to numbers of registered phones. The ACD (queues)
module now has configurable database queries and sample support scripts
were added.

[057] - Zsh 4.3.5 (Development)
  by Peter Stephenson (http://freshmeat.net/users/PeterWStephenson/)

Software Development :: Interpreters
System
Utilities

About: Zsh is a UNIX command interpreter (shell) which of the standard
shells most resembles the Korn shell (ksh). It includes enhancements of
many types, notably in the command-line editor, options for customising
its behaviour, filename globbing, features to make C-shell (csh) users
feel more at home and extra features drawn from tcsh.

Changes: This version contains both bugfixes and improvements. Further
progress has been made in support for multibyte character sets. In most
cases, this is thought to be stable, although a few glitches remain.
Combining characters are still not supported. There have been enhancements
to the module system to allow selective loading. There is a new module for
access to the curses screen manipulation package.
