Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Disassemblers
Software Development :: Testing

About: AsmTrace reads ELF executables and traces their operation. The
trace output shows registers and tables, and can have disassembly of
instructions. It is similar to the strace program, but much smaller and
optimized for assembler programmers.

Changes: This is the initial release. The attach feature is not well
documented yet, but it works.

[005] - Chemical Structures 2.1
  by Jerome PANSANEL (http://freshmeat.net/users/pansanel/)
  Tue, Feb 5th 2008 07:19

Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: The Chemical Structures project aims to provide a complete set of
3D molecular structures in CML format. As CML format permits structural
data and many properties to be included, each file also contains
additional information, like molecular weight, boiling point, melting
point, or InChI code. Data can be explored with a CML-aware software, like
Jmol, or by using a Web browser.

Changes: The HTML pages have a new style and contain MicroFormat data.
Many French translations have been added and Spanish translations are also
available. New structures (like carbohydrates) have been added. The project
now includes 559 structures.

  Tue, Feb 5th 2008 07:16

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec
Ghost. It saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the
file system is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used
instead. It has been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10
minutes.

Changes: GPT (GUID Partition Table) is supported. The HFS+ and reiserfs4
file systems are supported by partclone (check -q2 when you save an image
if you want to use this). This release could be used to save and restore
an Intel-based Mac OS. It has been tested successfully to save and restore
a Mac mini with Mac OS Leopard and Ubuntu 7.04 installed. Another
experimental live version based on Ubuntu 8.04 alpha4 was released, too.

  by Charles Cazabon (http://freshmeat.net/users/twoflower/)
  Tue, Feb 5th 2008 10:19

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.

Changes: This release explicitly closes the current IMAP mailbox when
selecting a new one, so all servers expunge deleted mail. It includes an
experimental spec file for creating RPMs with rpmbuild.

[021] - GNU Moe 1.0-pre2 (Development)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Tue, Feb 5th 2008 03:09

Text Editors

About: GNU Moe is a powerful, 8-bit clean console text editor for ISO-8859
and ASCII character encodings. It has a modeless, user-friendly interface,
online help, multiple windows, unlimited undo/redo capability, unlimited
line length, global search/replace (on all buffers at once), block
operations, automatic indentation, word wrapping, filename completion, a
directory browser, duplicate removal from prompt histories, and delimiter
matching.

Changes: A new "--max-windows" option was added. Tab now partially
completes filenames when more than one name matches. "C-s" now shows the
percentage of the file above the cursor. CR-LF line termination can now be
changed from the options menu. Arg_parser has been updated to 1.1.

  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Tue, Feb 5th 2008 03:10

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Text Processing

About: Ocrad is the GNU OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program,
implemented as a filter and based on a feature extraction method. It reads
images in pbm (bitmap), pgm (greyscale), or ppm (color) formats and
produces text in byte (8-bit) or UTF-8 formats. It also includes a layout
analyzer that is able to separate the columns or blocks of text normally
found on printed pages. Ocrad can be used as a stand-alone console
application, or as a backend to other programs.

Changes: The layout analyzer is now able to separate blocks of text of
arbitrary shape as long as they are clearly delimited by white space. The
"--layout" option no longer accepts an argument. A bug that didn't write
maxval when saving pgm or ppm files has been fixed. Arg_parser has been
updated to 1.1.

[023] - Gujin 2.4
  by Etienne (http://freshmeat.net/users/etiennelorrain/)
  Tue, Feb 5th 2008 14:29

System :: Boot :: Init

About: Gujin is a PC boot loader that can analyze your partitions and
filesystems. It finds the Linux kernel images available, as well as other
bootable partitions (for *BSD, MS-DOS, Windows, etc.), files (*.kgz) and
bootable disk images (*.bdi), and displays a graphical menu for selecting
which system to boot. It boots the Linux kernel using the documented
interface, like LILO and GRUB, so it doesn't need any other pre-installed
bootloader. It can also directly load gzipped ELF32 or ELF64 files, with a
simple interface to collect real-mode BIOS data. There is no need to
execute anything after making a new kernel: just copy the kernel image
file into the "/boot" directory, with a standard name. Gujin is written
almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in real mode to be as
compatible as possible.

Changes: This version fix the problem with booting kernels after Linux
2.6.22. It can also install the second stage inside a filesystem
(contigous file, no RAID supported) simply by: "instboot boot.bin
/boot/gujin.ebios". It moves DBG messages into the "xdata" segment to stop
"stack overflow" messages in debug executables, adds confirmation before
restoration of MBR and partition table from backup, and adds a small
executable "gujin-cmdline" to edit the "embedded command line" of vmlinuz
files.

[035] - NoMachine NX 3.1.0-6 (Client)
  by NXAdmin (http://freshmeat.net/users/NXAdmin/)
  Tue, Feb 5th 2008 10:22

Communications
Desktop Environment
Software Development

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server and desktop virtualization
system based on the X11 protocol. NX is an order of magnitude faster than
VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec. In addition,
NX translates and embeds the MS Windows Terminal Server and VNC protocols
into X/NX, enabling users to compress and accelerate remote Windows and
VNC sessions. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and X11
proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized transport
of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio and video over
the Internet.

Changes: This version solves possible deadlocks caused by both proxies
running out of tokens at the same time, which can provoke session
disconnection. Further problems that have been fixed are: copy and paste
from a Unix session into Windows applications may fail, some windows don't
stay on top when the X11 session is running in rootless mode, and the
window in the foreground may show content below when the rootless session
is running on Windows.

[036] - OpenDBX 1.3.5 (Development)
  by Norbert Sendetzky (http://freshmeat.net/users/nsendetzky/)
  Tue, Feb 5th 2008 02:56

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The OpenDBX libraries provide a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The C and
C++ libraries aim to implement access to the native database interfaces
efficiently via a thin abstraction layer. They consist of a basic set of
functions that are part of all vendor database libraries and can be
extended by additional function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS
SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are
supported.

Changes: This development release contains a prototype of an ODBC backend
for the OpenDBX database access library. It's not fully functional yet and
is missing the code for data retrieval but data definition and manipulation
statements work. Also, the code does compile cleanly if the latest GCC
compiler suite is used. The automake scripts were improved to add libdl
only to the core library and to make more clear what's missing if header
files or libraries are missing. Minor fixes were applied to the
documentation.

Information Management :: Records Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Photo Organizer is a Web-based multi-user photo management tool
that was designed for professional photographers. It offers a searchable
photo database that supports photo version control, a datebook with client
management, photo submission history, EXIF, IPTC, XML, and XMP, user
quotas, and printing labels and color brochures. It uses ImageMagick and
DCRAW to handle over a hundred image formats, and relies on PostgreSQL as
its database backend.

Changes: This an incremental feature release. New features include
sortable subfolder/subalbum listings and improved navigation for very
large folders/albums, fully pluggable authentication and a new two-phase
registration process, date-based searches and datebook events that span
multiple days. The "client user" model has been further enhanced. Exports

Security
System :: Monitoring

About: Prelude-Manager is a high-availability server that collects and
normalizes information from distributed Prelude-IDS sensors and stores
them in a database (or any kind of user-provided media). It is part of
Prelude, a hybrid Intrusion Detection framework implementing an open
communication layer for use by any security application. Prelude-Manager
also provide the ability to relay received events to one or several other
prelude-manager servers and allows users to filter received events so they
can provide specific actions for specific events. Support for filtering
plugins allows users to hook into different places in the Manager to
define custom criteria for alert relaying and logging.

Changes: This release fixed a problem where when many messages are
processed, heartbeat emission could be delayed. The scheduler is now more
fair when certain message priorities are not available for processing and
a messages with the same priority are now processed in the correct order
when disk buffers are used. Corrupted disk buffers are now detected. New
sched-priority and sched-buffer-size configuration options were provided.
An issue where the multiple relaying plugin instance would only forward
messages to a single Manager was fixed
