[001] - Aloofix 0.6
  by Aloof Schipperke (http://freshmeat.net/users/aloofschipperke/)
  Wed, Feb 13th 2008 10:21

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: Aloofix is conceptually similar to the Ubuntu JeOS (Just enough
OS), but much more aggressive when it comes to the term "just enough". The
build environment consists of a collection of Makefiles, scripts, and
configuration files capable of creating a bootable ISO image. This ISO
image contains a small set of scripts and utility programs for installing
Aloofix on a primary hard drive in a VM environment. The build environment
provides the raw materials for creating and provisioning a set of guest
instances for VirtualBox, VMWare, and Qemu.

Changes: The start of a compilation toolchain has been added. GNU Make,
GCC, and GNU Binutils can be built as add-on packages. Ncurses was
successfully built as a test inside an Aloofix guest. It's one step closer
to being able to build Aloofix in Aloofix. Support for populating and using
a Web-based ipkg repository has been added. Notable package version bumps
include Linux 2.6.24.2 and busybox 1.9.1. In addition, qemu 1.9.1 is now
supported. Root access is no longer needed for the preinstall build stage.

[003] - AsmBug 0.9.49.tar.gz
  by Jeff Owens (http://freshmeat.net/users/rabidrecluse/)
  Wed, Feb 13th 2008 10:22

About: AsmBug is a small powerful debugger for assembly language. It is
written in assembly, and connects directly to an X server. It works with
source files to present results, and also works with striped executables.
It has no dependencies and can be installed by copying. Most operations
are a single click or keystroke, and each window has a help pop-up.

Changes: This release fixes problems with the calculator and disassembler.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random,
Least Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to
set up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports
SNMP, integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: The IP address conflict check between BalanceNG and the local
machine TCP/IP stack now also works for language settings other than
English (relevant for Linux only). This change has been applied to the
"development" branch as well, resulting in version 2.030.

[008] - BlueProximity 1.2.4 (Stable)
  by Lars Friedrichs (http://freshmeat.net/users/highno/)
  Wed, Feb 13th 2008 06:37

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: BlueProximity helps add a little more security to the desktop. It
does so by detecting a certain Bluetooth device, most likely a mobile
phone, and keeping track of its distance. If it is moved away from the
computer and the distance is above a certain level (no measurement in
meters is possible) for a given time, it automatically locks the desktop
(or starts any other shell command wanted). Once away, the computer awaits
its master's return: if the device is nearer than a given level for a set
time, the computer unlocks without any interaction (or starts any other
shell command wanted).

Changes: Changes were made regarding Ubuntu/Debian packaging policies.
Many more languages were added.

[009] - check_logfiles 2.3.2
  by lausser (http://freshmeat.net/users/lausser/)
  Wed, Feb 13th 2008 06:36

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: check_logfiles is a plugin for Nagios which checks logfiles for
defined patterns. It is capable of detecting logfile rotation. If you tell
it how the rotated archives look, it will also examine these files. Unlike
check_logfiles, traditional logfile plugins were not aware of the gap
which could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored what had
happened between their checks. A configuration file is used to specify
where to search, what to search, and what to do if a matching line is
found.

Changes: Support for IPMI System Event Log was added. Support for Unicode
logfiles on Windows was added. A small Errpt bug was fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: Jameleon is an automated testing framework that can be used by
technical and non-technical users alike. One of the main concepts behind
it is to create a group of keywords or tags that represent different
screens of an application. All of the logic required to automate each
particular screen can be defined in Java and mapped to these keywords. The
keywords can then be organized with different data sets to form test
scripts without requiring an in-depth knowledge of how the application
works. The test scripts are then used for both testing automation and test
case document generation.

Changes: A few results bugs regarding IE 6 and IE 7 were fixed, the
results are now generated based on the desired character set, and this
release runs against Java 1.4.2, 5.0, and 6.0 again.

  Wed, Feb 13th 2008 13:36

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Utilities

About: Krename is a very powerful batch file renamer for KDE which can
rename a list of files based on a set of expressions. It can copy/move the
files to another directory or simply rename the input files. Krename
supports many conversion operations, including conversion of a filename to
lowercase or to uppercase, conversion of the first letter of every word to
uppercase, adding numbers to filenames, finding and replacing parts of the
filename, and many more. It can also change access and modification dates,
permissions, and file ownership.

Changes: This is the first version ported to KDE 4 after a large code
clean up. Not all features are available yet, but the basics should be
working.

Communications :: Telephony
Internet
System :: Diagnostics

About: MySpeed is a Java applet that measures connection speeds and
quality by timing actual data transfers between your server and end-users.
Connection tests are performed via HTTP or socket-to-socket modes. The
consistency of data transfer speeds is reported, a key measure of
connection quality. Detailed graphs of all data transferred during a speed
test are produced. VoIP editions test jitter and packet loss, reporting
VoIP quality and load capacity. A server-side database logs all speed test
results. The NOC and Support editions provide remote agent technologies to
identify remote connectivity problems.

Changes: This release adds several key bandwidth performance measures: Max
Attainable Speed (the calculated maximum TCP connect speed that is
supported by a network connection), Max Route Speed (the maximum speed
that may be attained on the route being tested), and TCP Forced Idle
Percent (the TCP idle time invoked because the route being tested is too
slow end-to-end).

About: RMIIO is a library that makes it as simple as possible to stream
large amounts of data using the RMI framework (or any RPC framework). The
RMI framework makes it very easy to implement remote communication between
Java programs, yet does not provide any ready solutions for sending large
files without blowing out memory on the client or server. What you really
want to do is stream data from the client to the server using a framework
that does not really expose a streaming model. The RMIIO library provides
some very powerful classes that enable a client to stream data to the
server using only a few extra lines of code.

Changes: RemoteStreamServer implementations were made Serializable by
implementing writeReplace to automatically export the object and return
the remote stub. DirectRemoteInputStream was added as a last-ditch
alternative for dealing with certain problematic scenarios. Te default
port for the DefaultRemoteStreamExporter can now be configured via a
system property. Closing of local resources by a RemoteIteratorServer was
made less prone to surprises.

interfaces. The first is a themed interface visible to the public, and the
second is a separate administration interface for managing both the
appearance and content of the published service (users and customers,
product information and related files, order information).

Changes: The filemanager allows you to create directories, download
multiple files, and directly edit text files. It is possible to configure
several types of answer validation logic for the order and registration
forms. The Nordea Nettiliotto payment method is supported. A new type of
custom page was added to the visual module, which can be directly edited

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: Virt-top is a top-like utility for showing statistics of
virtualized domains. Many keys and command line options are the same as
for ordinary top. It uses libvirt, so it is capable of showing statistics
across a variety of different virtualization systems.

Changes: The --end-time and --script options were added. Domain data is
logged to a CSV file. The domain data to be logged can now be selected
from the command line and an initialization file. Sub-second delays are
allowed when in batch mode. A lot of code restructuring and clean ups were
done.

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: vsftpd is a secure and fast FTP server for UNIX-like systems that

includes SSL encryption, IPv6, bandwidth throttling, PAM integration,
virtual users, virtual IPs and per-user / per-IP configuration.

Changes: STOU support was fixed. Bugs in the xferlog format were fixed.
OPTS UTF-8 ON is now recognized, but nothing is done with it. Firefox's
attempts to RETR directories no longer appear as download attempts in the
log. There were other minor fixes and tweaks. SSL support was enhanced; it
is now possible to insist that FTP clients send client certs, which in turn

[061] - Web-NoteTaker 0.0.1a
  by Bo (http://freshmeat.net/users/bahlberg/)
  Wed, Feb 13th 2008 22:10

About: Web-NoteTaker is a PHP/MySQL Web-based note taking tool designed
for "formal" note taking. It was originally designed to facilitate the
author's note taking process, which required tracking who said what during
a meeting and then how what was said "evolved". The tool allows you to
attribute notes to attendees and give notes "types", and it timestamps the
entries. At this point the tool does not allow editing through the UI, but
does allow entry of notes through the UI.

[064] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 3.0
  by nowen (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowen/)
  Wed, Feb 13th 2008 06:54

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system. It is simple to implement and maintain,
allows users to be validated automatically, requires no hardware tokens,
has a simple API for application support (via Ruby, PHP, Java, COM,
Python, etc.), supports multiple domains, and supports replication for
fault tolerance and scalability. It also supports mutual /host and
transaction authentication.

Changes: Installation was simplified and packaging was improved. Proxy 1.1
is supported. LDAP support was enhanced. Logging was vastly improved. The
DNS options for token clients are configurable. Java 6 is fully supported.
There is localization support in the PC token client for German, Spanish,
French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese,
Russian, Swedish, Turkish, and Chinese. The control scripts were updated.
The WiKID Strong Authentication server can now process 43 authentication
transactions per second.

[065] - xjobs 20080213
  by Thomas Maier-Komor (http://freshmeat.net/users/komor/)
  Wed, Feb 13th 2008 10:17

System
Utilities

About: xjobs runs several jobs in parallel and limits the number of jobs
running at once so that every processor of the machine is busy, but not
overloaded. A batch of long-running processes invoked from the shell are
normally executed one after another, no matter how many processors are
available. xjobs allows batching those jobs while still keeping the
machine busy. The interface of xjobs is similar to that of xargs.

Changes: Enhancements for I/O redirections. Multi-line jobs support has
been added. This release will automatically compile with large file
support.
