System :: Networking

About: Ahcpd is an implementation of the Ad-Hoc Configuration Protocol
(AHCP), an IPv6 stateless configuration protocol for cases where standard
auto-configuration and DHCPv6 don't work, such as mesh networks.

Changes: This version adds the ability to distribute IPv4 address leases
in a style similar to DHCP.

  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 17:09

Communications :: WAP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80, or securely using SSL. This provides you
with shell access to your machine from almost any Web browser, even when
firewalls are in the way. Experimental features include support for
standalone operation without Apache, and the my.anyterm.org service
provides access without the need to install anything on your servers.

Changes: This release fixes a Makefile bug in 1.1.19. Upgrade only if you
were unable to build the last version.

  by Guido (http://freshmeat.net/users/guidoreina/)
  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 03:00

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: Das Schaefchen is a lightweight HTTP server and proxy for Unix
platforms. It supports the minimum requirements of the HTTP/1.1 protocol
and virtual hosts, basic authentication (which can be used to protect
either files or directories), directory listing, byte ranges, and reverse
proxy. It is an event-driven server that runs as a single process with a
single thread using non-blocking I/O. It uses epoll as the event
notification mechanism to multiplex control between active connections.

Changes: The program crashed when the authentication was enabled and it
received a request like: CONNECT <IP>:<port> or OPTIONS *. This has been
fixed.

  by Izzy (http://freshmeat.net/users/izzysoft/)
  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 17:17

Database

About: DBAHelper is a collection of scripts to ease the daily maintenance
work of Oracle database administrators. Examples are moving objects
between tablespaces, analyzing schemata, and rebuilding invalid indices.
Also included is a little framework to simplify the use of RMAN (this
framework depends on the use of Oracle 10g with the Recovery Area enabled
and properly sized, so all backups go there).

Changes: The RMAN Framework has a complete interactive mode (including
menus). create_standby now also handles SPFile and updates the primary
instance (i.e. completely processes all required steps). There is a new
command "switchover" to do a switchover between the primary and standby
database.

[013] - GLCaml 20080215
  by elliott (http://freshmeat.net/users/euoti/)
  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 13:03

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GLCaml is an Objective Caml interface for OpenGL versions 1.1, 1.2,
1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.1, plus extensions. It is intended as a compact
drop-in binding. It is a direct, dynamic binding to OpenGL. An OCaml SDL
binding is provided as well, along with texture-map scaling functions,
texture mip-map generators, and a bitmapped font library. Extensive
documentation and more than 20 examples are provided.

Changes: This release contains significant API changes. Bigarrays are no
longer necessary to use OpenGL functions. Standard Ocaml types (ints,
floats, bools, strings, and corresponding arrays) are sufficient. Glenums
have been replaced by integer constants, and as a result, GL_ALL_CAPS
notation becomes gl_small_letters. Silent error handling has been removed.
Extra examples have been added, including an OpenGL shader demo. A new
module, Win, has been added to allow the use of OpenGL from standard Ocaml
Graphics module windows.

[015] - gpgdir 1.6
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 17:13

Security :: Cryptography

About: gpgdir is a Perl script that uses the CPAN GnuPG module to encrypt
and decrypt directories using a GPG key specified in ~/.gpgdirrc. It
supports recursively descending through a directory in order to make sure
it encrypts or decrypts every file in a directory and all of its
subdirectories. All file mtime and atime values are preserved across
encryption and decryption operations. In addition, gpgdir is careful not
to encrypt hidden files and directories.

Changes: A bugfix to not include previously encrypted files (i.e. those
with a .gpg extension) in the encryption/decryption file list. This bug
was introduced in 1.5 when a change was made to ignore ASCII-armored
files. The LC_ALL=C locale setting has been added for the install.pl
script (this should help to ensure that gpgdir is properly installed on
most systems). An --Exclude-mod-regex option has been added to the
install.pl script so that it is possible to force the exclusion of Perl
modules that gpgdir would normally install.

[016] - gpsd 2.37
  by ckuethe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ckuethe/)
  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 22:27

Communications
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical

About: gpsd is a daemon that listens to a GPS or Loran receiver and
translates the positional data into a simplified format that can be more
easily used by other programs, like chart plotters. The package comes with
a sample client that plots the location of the currently visible GPS
satellites (if available) and a speedometer. It can also use DGPS/ip.

Changes: The C++ bindings, Garmin USB support, and multiple instances of
ntp pps thread starting were fixed. Handling of odd PPS signals was
improved. The eye candy in the PHP visualizers was fixed.

[017] - GvTags 0.3.1
  by tof (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvollrath/)
  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 17:11

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: GvTags is a lightweight yet powerful tag library and template
engine for the dynamic programming language Groovy. The tag library can be
used to generate Web pages with powerful tag support. It can be used with
the template servlet of GvTags (TagTemplateServlet) or with JavaServer
Pages (JSP). The template engine can be used to generate any kind of text
documents. Since it is written in Groovy and compiled to a Java class
file, it can be used from Groovy as well as from Java.

Changes: This release is based on Groovy 1.5, and the embedded Web server
has been upgraded to Jetty 6.1. A new tag has been implemented: the page
tag to define character encoding and content type. Logging has switched to
Apache commons logging with log4j instead of JDK logging.

  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 13:24

System :: Hardware
Utilities

About: hdparm is a Linux shell utility for viewing and manipulating
various IDE drive and driver parameters. Most drives can benefit from
improved performance using a command similar to "hdparm -qm8 -qu1 -qc1
-qd1 /dev/hda".

Changes: A major code overhaul was made. Support for libata SATA/PATA
drives was significantly expanded. Much better compliance with the
SCSI-ATA-Translation specification was achieved. The -A, -W, and -M flags
can now be used without a parameter to query the current setting. Several
enhancements to the -I information were made. New flags
"--make-bad-sector", "--repair-sector", and "--read-sector" were added.
The "-N" flag was added to get/set max address/HPA. Many other fixes and
enhancements were made.

[022] - KAlarm 1.9.11 beta (Development)
  by David Jarvie (http://freshmeat.net/users/djar/)
  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 17:08

Utilities

About: KAlarm lets you configure personal messages to be displayed,
commands to be executed, or emails to be sent at scheduled times. Among
its options, it allows you to choose the message font and color, how often
to repeat, whether to display an advance reminder, whether to speak the
message or play a sound when it is displayed, and whether to cancel the
alarm if it can't be triggered on time (e.g. if you are logged out at the
time). As well as using the graphical interface to configure alarms, you
can use the command line, and there is a DCOP interface for other
applications.

Changes: Errors in setting up sub-repetitions are fixed. The alarm edit
dialog layout is improved. The alarm list now shows correct times for
working-hours-only alarms, and their calculation has been sped up.
Archived alarms are no longer displayed after an alarm refresh when they
are supposed to be hidden. An error sending email with sendmail is fixed.
Debian package dependencies now allow it to replace the official 'kalarm'
package. There are other bugfixes and improved translations.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL or MSSQL to develop surveys, publish surveys, and
collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created, data can be
inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen which presents
each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data entry screen. It
includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens", so that
invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity to set
conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous question
types, and a basic statistics function.

  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 13:01

System :: Filesystems
System :: Operating System Kernels

About: NTFS-3G is a read/write NTFS driver. NTFS-3G is available for over
60 Linux distributions, including most major ones. Moreover, it has been
ported to other operating systems like FreeBSD, BeOS, Haiku, and Mac OS X,
to big-endian and 64-bit computer architectures, and to CPUs like AMD64,
ARM, and MIPS.

Changes: This release fixes file and directory removal; rename and move
may have been denied with an "Operation not supported" error message.
setuid-root ntfs-3g had a local root exploit and other security problems.
>From now on, unprivileged mounts of block devices are possible only by
using the integrated FUSE library (default), which has no known security
problem. Unprivileged unmount didn't always work. This release always
creates the mount.ntfs-3g symlink in /sbin where mount(8) needs it.

  Sun, Feb 17th 2008 17:07

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: A new chapter about object orientation was added to the manual.
The struct copy of the compiler (comp.sd7) was changed to leave the
dynamic type unchanged. Several primitive actions were added or improved
in the compiler. A bug in the primitive action CLS_CREATE2 was fixed. The
function match_subexpr_type was changed to allow normal (not DYNAMIC)
interface functions to be used for implementation values. The bas7.sd7
(basic interpreter) example program was improved.

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: wxRemind is a wxPython-based front/back-end for Remind, a powerful
calendar and alarm application. The display features a calendar and daily
event list suitable for visualizing your schedule at a glance. Dates and
associated events can be quickly selected either with the mouse or cursor
keys, and dates in the calendar are color coded to reflect the total
duration of scheduled events. wxRemind integrates with an external editor
of your choice to make editing of reminder files more efficient, provides
hotkeys to quickly access the most commonly used options, and allows
popup, sound, and/or spoken alarms.

Changes: This release, by default, now starts remind in internal server
mode using the -z0 switch. When enabled, internal alerts are generated for
MSG reminders, including a graphical alert box together with an optional
audible alert. For early warnings prior to the event time, the graphical
alert offers an option to cancel further alerts for the reminder and, if
no further action is taken, automatically closes itself after a specified
time (15 seconds by default) without canceling further repetitions.
