Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Software Distribution
About: The Ape Base Compile System is a set of scripts that leverage ESP
EPM and MREPO to maintain Red Hat based systems that require custom and
secluded binaries. It achieves cross platform reproducible compiles
applications like Apache HTTPD, MySQL, and PHP, supports a common --prefix
parent directory to allow different versions of an application to be
installed, provides an easy method to switch between application versions,
places selected application binaries in a central "bin" directory, supports
delivery via Yum and other common installers, and provides a method for
non-compiled "skeleton" files to be included with installation and
distribution.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random,
Least Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to
set up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports
SNMP, integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".
Changes: A new parameter "vrrppreemtts" (VRRP preemption threshold) has
been added. The "sessiongroup" specifier has been added to the target
section together with the "maxgrpsessions" specifier, thus allowing you to
express a maximum number of sessions of a group of targets.

[004] - Baldrick Application Framework 0.85
by Matt Hucke (http://freshmeat.net/users/matthucke/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 00:52
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The Baldrick Application Framework is a library of Perl 5 modules
that provide Web application functionality: session management,
URL-to-handler mapping, user loading, authentication and authorization,
database connectivity and querying, and template-based output generation.
It is a tool for programmers to use in building their own Web applications
("modules"), which can run under CGI or mod_perl. Users on a site should be
able to freely move between modules without re-authenticating, even if
those modules were from different developers.
Changes: This release features an almost complete rewrite of
Baldrick::SpecialTurnip, the module that represents an object read from a
database and allows it to modify and update itself. The new SpecialTurnip
now supports multi-table JOINs, compound primary keys, automatic
validation (via Baldrick::InputValidator) of edits, and automated logging
of changes. This release also adds a new object, Baldrick::Response, which
groups together response-oriented functions from Baldrick::Dogsbody and
Baldrick::Request.

Communications :: Chat
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Text Processing
About: Cypher is an AI program that generates the .rdf (RDF graph) and
serql (SeRQL query) representations of plain language input, allowing
users to speak plain language to update and query databases. With robust
definition languages, Cypher's grammar and lexicon can quickly and easily
be extended to process highly complex sentences and phrases of any natural
language, and can cover any vocabulary. Equipped with Cypher, programmers
can begin building next generation semantic Web applications that harness
natural language.
Changes: The RDF-based Lexicon and Framenet dictionary and state machine
were removed. An upgrade was made to Sesame 2. QDSeRQL is now QDSesame and
based on Sesame 2. Console interaction no longer supported. Input/output
files are now used to emulate the compiler process. Some known bugs
remain: if identical input is contained in multiple input files, it will
be output under only one of the corresponding output files and will mask
the other outputs, and sentences must be delimited by line breaks and
should not end in punctuation.

Security
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: EDAcS collects, archives, and reports remote user connections for
security monitoring and investigations by using the RADIUS protocol (RFC
2866). EDAcS consists of two parts, the "edacsdb" database loader and the
"edacsweb" reporting CGIs. The two parts can be installed independent of
each other, and can reside on different systems. Both need connectivity to
Oracle as the backend database system, using Oracle OCI with libsqlora.
Changes: New charts are generated for daily statistics, reachable by
clicking on the corresponding monthly statistics chart. The
edacs-chartsgen was rewritten to fix the bug of incorrect handling for new
reporting routers. Compiler warnings due to changing a const ** variable
were eliminated, also eliminating unsafe "strcpy".

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: Fityk is nonlinear curve-fitting and data analysis software. It
allows data visualization, separation of overlapping peaks, and least
squares fitting using standard Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, a genetic
algorithm, or Nelder-Mead simplex method. It knows about many functions
(mostly bell-shaped, like Gaussian, Loretzian, Pearson 7, Voigt,
Pseudo-Voigt, and Doniach-Sunjic) and user-defined functions can be easily
added. It also enables background substracting, data calibration, and task
automation with a simple script language. It is being developed to analyze

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
About: imapsync is a tool for facilitating incremental recursive IMAP
transfers from one mailbox to another. It is useful for mailbox migration,
and reduces the amount of data transferred by only copying messages that
are not present on both servers. Read, unread, and deleted flags are
preserved, and the process can be stopped and resumed. The original
messages can optionally be deleted after a successful transfer.
Changes: The --syncinternaldates option is turned on by default. Timezone
is set to TZ=GMT if no timezone is set. A message is ignored when it has
no header. A message ID is added in output warning when no header found.
The program can run with IMAPClient_3.x.x without redefining any functions
(but 3.x.x is still buggy and to be avoided). Unit tests were started.

[030] - littleutils 1.0.20
by Brian Lindholm (http://freshmeat.net/users/brian_lindholm/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 00:39
Utilities
About: The littleutils are a collection of small but useful programs.
These programs include a duplicate file finder (repeats), image optimizers
(opt-jpg, opt-png, opt-gif, and recomp-jpg), file renaming utilities
(lowercase and uppercase), archive recompressors (to-bzip, to-7zip, and
to-lzma), a tempfile utility (tempname), text file cleanup utilities
(notabs, notrails, and lreplace), some low-level file query utilities
(filesize, filedate, filemode, and filenode), plus others. Web site
administrators will find the image optimizers particularly useful, while
script writers will find some of the lower-level utilities more useful.
Changes: An issue where the pngstrip utility (and the opt-png script that
called it) would sometimes delete the transparency chunk even without the
-a option was fixed along with a problem where the -t option in filedate
didn't actually create output that was compatible with the -t option of
touch. The memchurn utility was removed entirely as memtest86 or
memtest86+ should be used instead. Portability of the to-7zip script in
the "extra" subdirectory was improved.

[040] - nut 13.3
by Jim Jozwiak (http://freshmeat.net/users/jozwiak/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 23:40
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.
About: nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your
meals for nutrient composition. The database included is the latest USDA
Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. This database contains values
for vitamins, minerals, fats, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber,
etc., and includes the essential polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and
Omega-6. Nutrient levels are expressed as a percentage of the Daily Value,
the familiar standard of food labeling in the United States, but also can
be fully customized. Foods can be added from recipes or food labels, and
nutrient intake can be graphed. The program is completely menu-driven and
there are no commands to learn.
Changes: This release gives the user more control over essential fatty
acid values. The balance between Omega-6 and Omega-3, as modeled by
William Lands' equation relating dietary intake to the ultimate
composition of cell membrane phospholipids, can now be changed to favor
more or less Omega-3, and this relationship is shown on analysis screens.
The maximum allowable amount of EPA and DHA can also be set. If this
maximum is set low, the program shows by how much Omega-6 would have to be
restricted in order to meet the target.

[044] - Open Computer Forensics Architecture 2.1.0
by klpd (http://freshmeat.net/users/klpd/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 01:01
About: The Open Computer Forensics Architecture (OCFA) is a modular
computer forensics framework to automate the digital forensic process, to
speed up the investigation and give tactical investigators direct access
to the seized data through an easy to use search and browse interface. The
architecture forms an environment where existing forensic tools and
libraries can be easily plugged into the architecture and can thus be made
part of the recursive extraction of data and metadata from digital
evidence. It aims to be highly modular, robust, fault tolerant, recursive,
and scalable in order to be usable in large investigations that spawn
numerous terabytes of evidence data and cover hundreds of evidence items.
Changes: This version includes some refactored subsystems that should make
the architecture a bit faster and easier to integrate with other
programming languages like Java and Perl. With the new treegraph library,
it should now be a lot simpler to create custom treegraph-based modules
for the architecture.

by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 23:27
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging
About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.
Changes: This release contains several fixes: for a bug in b64 inserter
header (introduced in 1.0.1 beta 107); for a GCC 4.0 error in
pantheios::integer inserter; for a token-pasting error in the tracing
example; for the test.component.inserters.threadid on Mac OS X. This

program runs from a Unix system via a Web browser, and uses Google Charts
to produce graphics.
Changes: This release adds better time and date-range selection, making it
easier to view items from a specific time in the log. This also makes some
queries run more quickly since more data can be excluded from queries
based on date. There are also several minor bugfixes.

[063] - Unicode Data Browser 1.3
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 22:31
Software Development :: Localization
Text Processing
Text Processing :: General
About: UnicodeDataBrowser is a browser for the UnicodeData.txt file, which
contains much useful information but is not easily read by humans. It
creates a scrollable table in which columns represent properties. The
table may be sorted on any column. Abbreviations are expanded and
characters cross-referenced in decomposition and casing fields are named.
Regular expression search restricted to a selected column is available.
The set of characters for which information is displayed may be restricted
to those characters matching a regular expression on a specified property.
Changes: This release adds the ability to save the filtered data to a file
and to read certain parameters, including the directory containing a local
copy of UnicodeData.txt, from an init file. It also detects whether it is
running under Tk 8.5 or earlier and adapts font sizes appropriately. A
single-file executable is now available for FreeBSD.

by whadar (http://freshmeat.net/users/whadar/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 23:25
System :: Software Distribution
System :: Software Distribution Tools
About: Vamos project allows computers to run software directly from the
network, without installations. The software is stored on servers and is
centrally maintained without the user's effort or attention. The user just
needs to run applications, and the necessary bits are streamed
automatically to its computer. The execution of the software is local,
allowing high responsiveness and distributed computational load.
Changes: The bound directories and the copied files of /etc/ were made
configurable. The system now detects if rootz-launcher is started from the
browser or from the CLI. The setup-browser was fixed. The use of tac was
removed, since not every system has tac. The HTML "welcome page" page is
shown when there is no available GUI.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: WordPress is a state-of-the-art, semantic, personal publishing
platform with a focus on aesthetics, Web standards, and usability. It was
born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architected personal publishing
system. While primarily geared towards functioning as a Weblog, WordPress
is also a flexible CMS capable of managing many types of Web sites. In
addition to the basic blog functions, it also has an integrated link
manager (e.g. for blogrolls), file attachments, XFN support, support for
stand-alone pages, Atom and RSS feeds for both content and comments,
blogging API support (Atom Publishing Protocol, Blogger, MetaWeblog, and
Movable Type APIs), spam blocking features, advanced cruft-free URL
generation, a flexible theme system, and an advanced plugin API.
Changes: This release has a completely redesigned back-end admin
interface, multi-file uploads, a media manager, one-click plugin upgrades,
faster page loading, image gallery functionality, and built-in support for

[068] - wview 3.7.1
by Mark Teel (http://freshmeat.net/users/mteel/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 00:49
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Scientific/Engineering
About: wview is an application that controls a supported weather station
to retrieve archive records and current conditions. Archive records may
optionally be stored in a relational database (MySQL or PostgreSQL). At a
user-defined interval, wview will use the archive history and current
conditions to generate weather images (buckets and graphs) and Web pages
based on configurable HTML templates. It supports serial and USB data
loggers, as well as connectivity with a terminal server or serial server
via TCP sockets.
Changes: This release enabled NOAA generation for metric stations. A bug
in wviewconfig that prevented non-standard database names for SQL setup
was fixed. Start script generation was fixed to use $exec-prefix instead
of $prefix for "WVIEW_INSTALL_DIR". A new !--stationType-- tag was added
so that the weather station type can be produced for HTML pages, etc.
wviewconfig was modified to allow specification of the station type. The
"Generic" type was removed and "Simulator", "WXT510", and "WS-2300" were
added.

[069] - Xapian and Omega 1.0.6
by Olly Betts (http://freshmeat.net/users/OllyBetts/)
Tue, Mar 18th 2008 00:43
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Xapian is a search engine library, scalable to collections
containing hundreds of millions of documents. It's written in C++ with
bindings for Perl, Python, PHP, Java, Tcl, C#, and Ruby. It is a highly
adaptable toolkit that allows developers to easily add advanced indexing
and search facilities to their own applications. It supports the
Probabilistic Information Retrieval model and also a rich set of boolean
query operators. Omega is a Web search application built upon the Xapian
library. It can index a Web server's document tree (including HTML, PDF,
OpenOffice, MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Works, WordPerfect, RTF, PS, etc.),
or data exported from arbitrary sources (e.g. SQL databases).
Changes: This release adds the ability to perform single-ended value range
checks. The stemmers have been sped up. xapian-check and xapian-compact now
handle user metadata better. Base files are now updated atomically to avoid
problems with reading processes finding partially written ones. Lazily
created tables now get the correct revision. OS/2 support has been
integrated. omindex now supports indexing of DjVu files. Three new
OmegaScript commands have been added: $addfilter, $lower, $upper. The
Python module now always has the extension which Python expects, which
fixes a problem on Mac OS X.
